150year anniversary of the South's declaration of secession
freethefly replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Currently I'm being amused enough at some people's pride in their state's participation in American slavery during the 19th century. I wonder what the fuck it is that make these people tick. I have no pride that slavery was allowed. Fact is that slavery in America started in the 1500's. The Spanish used slaves. The Colonies used slaves. There were Native Indian slaves as well as white slaves. There were also black slave owners. Fact; some African Kings sold slaves. Blacks selling blacks. Fact; all ethnic groups have been enslaved at one point or another in time. Fact; many in the North owned slaves. Fact; Ulysses Grant owned a slave. Fact; slavery existed in Canada until the early 1800's. Fact; slavery still exist in the Sudan to this day. Currently, I am being amused by your lack of knowledge. I wonder what the fuck it is that makes you think that us of the 13 States are proud that slavery existed. My ancestors were Confederates. One such ancestor was 2nd Lt. Bradford Hamm of Frazer's Dragoons. Should I feel shame? I think not. I fly the Stars and Bars. It is heritage, not racism. We busted or backs in sweltering heat doing what you call "monkey work". When I ran the robotic welder, I would produce over 700 parts for the day. The large uprights that were installed in the cases weigh near 70lbs. The small uprights were around 50. I was lifting a part from the table every 40 seconds in a twelve hour day. We also had to maintain the overhead carriers throughout the day if it jammed. We were also responsible for the maintenance on the robotic welder. You did not have any time to mess around. As for the people who manned the lines, they too busted their backs doing what you call "monkey work". Sad that you consider American blue collar workers to be monkeys not worthy of a wage that would provide for a good life. Don't know Thomas Steel. I have heard of Funland, however. I'm more aware of James E. Strates Shows as a friend of mine, Ronnie Meyer, took off with them when they came to Central City in Ferguson, Mo., one summer. I almost went with him. Ronnie's father had to go down to Memphis to bring him back as he was only 16yo. Ron eventually went back to the carnival and stayed on with Strates Shows for near 20 years. If ya get back this way in the future, look me up. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I would lose my house, and medical care that I need. I've been finding that quite a few jobs only wish to give employees less than 40 hours a week. They call them part-time jobs. No benefits. Any money that I would make would go directly into the gas tank. I need to be able to afford medical care, living expenses, food, house payment, insurance and anything else that is required. Most important is the medical care provided with SSDI. Without it, I'm dead (my doctor said that my health is on the down side as the meds are not working as they should.) It is a necessity, not a lifestyle choice. Believe me, I would love to be off of SSDI. I finished college earlier this year and had hoped to be working by now. Not much for decent work in Southwest Missouri. I've considered moving, but that would depend on the sale of my property (several homes around me have been on the market for well over a year.) Until something good comes along, I'll stay on SSDI out of necessity. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

150year anniversary of the South's declaration of secession

Slavery would had eventually faded away under the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis believed that slaves should be given an education. He gave his own slaves an education to prepare them for their eventual freedom. He also paid them the same wage that white workers earned and allowed them property. Jefferson believed strongly in the sovereignty of the State and believed that State rights trumped Federal law (as it is now, States are held captive to Federal law.) The Emancipation Proclamation did more harm to the slaves than it did good. Many of the slaves were denied education and jobs. The North did not want them as they were viewed as uneducated with no skills and not worthy to work alongside white men. It would be 100 years before any advancement for rights to take hold, due to the Emancipation Proclamation. The war was based on the Right of the State to make its own law, govern its peoples and to maintain the right to secede from the Union more than it was on slavery. My job was sent to Mexico. They pay them $1.30 per hour. Do you consider $1.30 to be a reasonable wage? Do you consider the $19.75 that I made to be excessive? I believe that my time and skill is well worth $20.00+ an hour. Why do you believe that a person working should not be paid a wage that allows him/her to be able to afford a comfortable life? Should it only be the CEO's and top executives allowed to earn one million plus a year? The conservative frame of mind is that the average American is not worth squat, but only a tool to be used to further the corporate agenda of higher profits at the expense of the lower class. The less they pay, the higher the profit margin. I've been looking for work all year long. Filled out a lot of applications with only a couple of interviews. The wages they offer is from minimum wage to $10.00 an hour. I refuse to work for minimum wage. I get more from SSDI, why would I want less? I need at least $15.00 an hour to make more than what I get on SSDI. I am aware of Mono as I live 30 miles from Springfield. Mono is over on Division Street. They operate the full year without lay-offs. They build paint shakers and portable fire pits. One of my brother's old lady's kids works there. That is the egotistical plateau that is the American way of thought, unfortunately. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I'm beginning to re-think my views on taxation.

Ingersoll-Rand has done it for years. (They put me out of a great job. Sent it to Mexico.) "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -
How is this the Union's fault? I was a member of the United Steel Workers for some years and enjoyed a high wage with great benefits at Hussmann Refrigeration (we built the refrigeration equipment that you see in grocery stores.) Without the Union, Hussmann would had paid next to minimum wage. I worked from 3am to 3pm five days a week, as well as a ten hour day on most Saturdays. We deserved what we made. We worked hard for our money. I can't imagine why some people are dead-set against Unions. Often I hear said that Union employees are lazy bums that stand around all day doing nothing. Far from the truth. If you do nothing all day in a Union plant, you're out of a job. Parts do not weld themselves, nor do lines run without people manning the stations. You want to complain about something? Complain about the over-paid CEO's and their cronies. Complain about the number of hard working Americans whom had lost the wages that support this country. I paid high taxes, but I also lived a good life. Never in debt. When Ingersoll-Rand bought the company, they quickly started sending our jobs to China and Mexico. They put over 1000 people out of work. Myself included. There was nothing that the Union could do about it. The last contract that I was there to vote on passed by a very small margin. Ingersoll offered $1.50 over a 5 year period. They also reduced our medical benefits to just about nothing while raising the deductible. We lost eye and dental insurance. Ingersoll also said that no one was going to be laid off. The Union recommended a strike. Ingersoll made it clear that if we were to strike they would padlock the gate and shut the plant down. Well, it really didn't matter. Most of us were going to lose our job regardless. We were in the Union hall for more than 12 hours before the vote was taken. It passed by very little. No sooner than the contract was ratified, Ingersoll started passing out pink slips. They did this the very day the contract was signed. Fact, they brought in armed guards to patrol the plant and guard the Company people during the massive lay-off. For the skilled employees, we had to train the people they brought up from Mexico. The very people who were taking our jobs. I operated a Genesis Fanuc Arcmate robotic welder and was amongst the highest paid in the plant. My job was going to a foreigner who was going to make around $1.30 per hour, compared to my $19.75 per hour. Needless to say, I didn't show the guy I was to train anything that he could use. Why should I? To Hell with him and Ingersoll. I could not care less that he was going back to Mexico without the knowledge to run the robot. Who is to blame? The Union? Ingersoll-Rand? I blame the anti-American attitude that is part of the normal operating procedure of today's corporation. Companies could not care less about America, if they cared at all. If they did care, they would bring the jobs back and pay a good wage. It is those high wages that supported this country. Our government should heavily penalize corporations that move jobs to foreign soil. End all tax breaks to such corporations and tax them to death. This country is failing and doing so miserably. The more jobs that leave this country, the more our government will have to borrow from China to keep this rapidly sinking vessel somewhat afloat. Without Unions, there are but only two classes of citizen, lower and upper. Unions produced the middle class. Without the Unions we are back to the days of the Company Store. I'm sure that no one wants to be in-debt to that institution. P.S. To the person who stated that they knew a Union crane operator who slept off hangovers while in the crane. I call BULLSHIT! Who operated the crane while that person slept? Did it operate its self? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Hell Ride, written and directed by Larry Bishop (also starring). Produced and edited by Quentin Tarantino. Also starring Michael Madsen, Vinny Jones, David Carradine, Dennis Hopper, and Eric Balfour. This is the best biker movie ever made. No fucking shit! The story is that a woman, by the name of Cherokee Kisum is murdered on July 4th of 1976. She left behind a son and a large stash of cash in a lock box. Before her death a meeting between to rival clubs, the Victors and the Six Six Sixers, is held. Shit does not go well and shit gets bad. Cherokee is killed and her murder remains a mystery, as does the where about of her son, for thirty years. Thirty years later, the Victors club treasurer is murdered in the same fashion as Cherokee. It is learned that the Six Six Sixers are back and want the Victor's turf, as well as the lock box of money. Mayhem and back stabbing ensues. The Victors Prez, Johnny Pistole, aka Pistolero (Larry Bishop), sets out to take back his turf and do away with the Sixers once and for all. Along the way he discovers who Cherokee Kisum's son is and returns Cherokee's stash of cash to her son. If ya like hardcore biker movies, you'll love this one (it actually has a plot!) If ya like Vinny Jones (Billy Wings), you'll love him in this flick. The guy can play the part of a social-path like no one else. I give this flick a firm double D rating "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Here in Missouri, any centerfire weapon may be used, including a 22lr. I wouldn't recommend using a 22 for deer, however. I prefer my 30-06. Hell, you can use an atlatl if you want. From Mo. Dept. of Conservation website: Methods allowed during all portions of the firearms deer season, except the muzzleloader portion. * centerfire pistol, revolver or rifle using expanding-type bullets. Legal ammunition includes lead bullets, copper bullets and bullets made of other material designed to expand. * shotgun (including .410) with slugs only * air-powered gun, .40 caliber or larger, charged only from an external high compression power source (external hand pump, air tank, or air compressor) * a muzzleloading or cap-and-ball firearm .40 caliber or larger and capable of firing only a single projectile at one discharge; in-lines and scopes are allowed * multiple-barreled muzzleloading or cap-and-ball firearms and/or muzzleloading or cap-and-ball handguns, including revolvers, .40 caliber or larger are allowed and may be carried in addition to a muzzleloading or cap-and-ball rifle * a longbow, compound bow or recurve bow of any draw weight; hand-held string releasing devices, illuminated sights, scopes and quickpoint sights are allowed * crossbow * atlatl, which is defined as a rod or narrow board-like device used to launch, through a throwing motion of the arm, a dart 5 to 8 feet in length. Full dressers are nice. At times I thought of trading in the Fatboy for one, but nah. Back in the 80's and 90's, I'd push my bike off on a Bro of mine in Utah every time I went up there after Sturgis. Randy had an 84 FLHTCU. Sure was nice to get on something that was the nearest you can get to a Cadillac for comfort. Old Fl's and even the 91 Fatboy are not the most comfortable after a month on the road. We road up to Bear Lake that day, in the pic. Never thought that I would really like one, until I rode one. The stereo was nice. Although, I do prefer the sound of just the pipe and the wind. Part of the reason I ride, to be free of all of the distraction driving a car. More of being in tune with the sound of the bike and everything around me. No fucking around with a stereo or searching for a CD. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

The majority of deer are shot at sun up and sun down. In all of my years hunting deer, not counting this one, I have killed near every deer I shot at. Some were less than 20 feet some were near 300 yards. Sometimes you just miss. It happens to the best. I take it you do not deer hunt? An instant drop would be nice, but it does not always happen that way. Tracking a shot deer is just part hunting. I've seen deer go just into the tree line and lay down in brush to die. Other times they may run for over a mile through woods and farm land. Hope they leave a good blood trail. A gut shot deer will not bleed out. Best shot is behind its front leg. Take out lungs and heart. Even then, a deer can run more than 50yds. Enough to find a place to hide in the woods. If we don't find it, we don't worry ourselves over it. No one likes to lose a deer, but it happens to even the best hunters. I do not hunt solely for enjoyment. My main purpose is meat. Hell yes, I'll take a long shot. If I hit it and it goes into the woods at sunset, I'll get him in the morning, if not that night. If we don't find it, oh well, coyotes have to eat, too. I've been using this rifle since 1987. It is a Model of 1917 Winchester that someone sporterized after it was stolen from an Army base in New Jersey in 1920. I bought it at a gun shop in Indiana. There is a website that one can use to track a weapon's history using the serial numbers. It would ruin this rifle to mount a scope on it. The gunsmith at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield told me that my rifle was worth $750-1000.00 if not more. He recommended not mounting a scope. I have been thinking of getting a .270 with a dusk and dawn scope. I am very good with open sights, however. Besides, many a deer has been missed with a scope mounted rifle. Been tried, already. Yup, those Crusades worked out just fine. As for those "moral and virtuous people", a little Google magic will produce a long list of "moral and virtuous" people. Religious leaders are nothing more than politicians with a better cover story. Better at herding the sheeple. Who is another to tell others that they will follow ones perception of morality? Sounds too much like Orwell's vision of 1984. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Some one hasn't been reading his book. I, being agnostic, even knew this one 1 Corinthians 16:2 http://bible.cc/1_corinthians/16-2.htm Best die with check book in hand, right? Guessing they wouldn't like us playing catch with cue balls.
freethefly replied to CSpenceFLY's topic in The Bonfire
I don't remember the exact speed but it is belly flying speed. Different brands have slightly different weights. Disclaimer: To all the newbies that have never jumped with a ball before, DON'T DO IT without talking to your DZO and having someone experienced on the dive. If you loose the ball you can kill someone. Some years back, when I jumped at SD Kansas, we sometimes jumped with a ball, belly flying. The area we jumped over was void of houses and people. Pretty much just farm fields. To my knowledge, no one had ever lost a ball. Done safely, it is a lot of fun and a real cool visual on video. Which is why I left Mo. Toy Run,,thats my wife next to me smiling threw the rain.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/onekick/toys4tots.jpg just another day at work at the Cycle salvage.. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v400/onekick/?action=view¤t=winter.jpg Were those pics taken in St. Louis? The cycle salvage is that also in St.Louis. If so, was it over at Al's or AIMS (after he moved it over to Martin Luther King Dr.) I do use a windshield on my Fatboy these days. Got tired of the bugs, plus I ride all year, snow, rain, ice... Forced to wear the helmet (half shell, no padding and the Styrofoam is all that is left in it, the chin strap is melted from laying across a hot pipe, and the shell is gouged over most of its surface from taken a ride on its own on the freeway over in Illinois. Damn thing is 25yo. I hated to leave CA as when I lived there we rode helmet free. MO was (and still is) lid law state. CA became the same about a year after I left. Winchester Super X 165 grain pointed soft points. 30-06, I take it? Sighted in at 250, you were -11.1 at 350, -15.3 at 375 and -20 at 400. If you held just under her topline, you probably shot under her. Yup, Model of 1917 Winchester. I should had gave a bit more elevation. When she went down, after the shot, I was sure I hit her, but then she stood back up. I think she must had ducked the round and it went over her back. Although, I didn't see any frost spray up in the grass behind her. It was a side shot. It is possible that I hit her and that the round did not exit her. Without a blood trail, they are near impossible to track. I was shooting up the hill in what we call the big green. I hunt on 500+ acres of private property on a cattle ranch. Lots of woods. She was standing in a gully getting a drink from a small pool of water. I had sworn that I hit her. I knew the shot would be a maybe, but what the hell, season was almost over. The buck I shot last year was at near 300 yards. Normally I would not take a long shot, but it was getting near complete sunset and it was the last day, so I shot him. The doe I shot at this year at over 350yds? I honestly thought that I would nail it. She got lucky. Oh, and my rifle is dead on at 250yds. With the doe, I aimed just below her back line. She must had just ducked the round when she went down. What a bitch. Would had been enough meat to last quite sometime. Because if you start out after them immediately, they'll keep running. Wait a while and they'll bed up without going far - usually. LOL, usually... 4 or 5 years ago, shot a doe that ran near two miles with its front left leg shot near off. The round entered behind her right front leg, went through both lungs and exit through her left leg. That damn thing went up hills, down hills, through creek beds, plowed corn fields and into a pasture before she dropped. Left a great blood trail to follow. The buck in the picture only went, maybe 50 yards with no brains in his head. I shot him at an angle. The round entered behind the front leg, traveled up his neck and out the side of his head, just below the left antler. That was the first shot. Shot him as he was running from 150-200 yards. When I shot, he quickly turned and ran in the opposite direction. I thought, "damn, I missed". so I shot again. Second shot and he dropped on the spot. Oddly, the second shot hit him in the exact same spot, but on the other side of his body. The round traveled up his neck and bounced off of the bottom of the opposite antler to travel, under the skin, down the length of his snout and came to rest just above his nose. Both shots took out a lung. I'm amazed that he ran 50 yards with no brain left. Deer are amazing that they, at times, can go so far after being badly wounded. Damn lucky you were not bit. Several years ago, I came around the side of my house and was confronted by a large possum. It was near noon time and possums are rarely seen during day light. Most likely, that old guy was ill. Anyways, the damn thing charged at me, so I went inside and got my bow and put an arrow through him. Didn't kill him. Screw it, I'll shoot him with the 30-06. One bullet through his gut and out his ass. Still, didn't kill it! To hell with him. I put the barrel to his head and ended his misery. One arrow and two shells! That was one tough possum. Do love to hunt. Have been hunting since early childhood. However, deer season was very bad this year. We were able to take two yearlings (actually three were shot, but only two were found. Oh well, coyotes need to eat too.) I did see several small bucks sniffing after does. Saw a good number of does. Shot at one that was over 350 yards (I hunt with open sights.) Thought I hit her as she dropped down but then got back up and took a few steps, only to stop again. I sat there for a few minutes watching her. As she started to head towards the wood line, I took another shot. She slowly made her way into the woods as I sat in my spot. After an hour or so, I took a stroll to the spot where she dropped. No blood! I followed her tracks into the woods and found nothing. Oh well, I'll see her again, next year As for poaching? Depends. A lot of folks in this county live below the poverty line (jobs are very scarce.) If someone can feed their family for several months and shoot a deer without being caught, I say go for it. Now, if you're only shooting deer just to be shooting deer... shame on you. The pic is my "Trophy" buck that I took in Dallas County, MO. Weighed out to over 250lbs. That is a big deer down here in SW Missouri. Shot him in 2007. Last year I got an eight pointer that was only half the size. Year before got two does.
