  1. I've used B. Germain's packing method for my PC for the last 140 jumps on my icon, never had any issues, but as other jumpers have already said, I always pound the BOC to flatten out the PC before jumping. Blue skies Warwick University Skydiving Club
  2. Is worth checking. Thanks for the heads up. Marc Warwick University Skydiving Club
  3. Captain from Warwick University Skydiving Club in the UK here. We have had over 60 people start jumping this year and are close to having our first newly qualified jumper. Big it up to the student massive!! Will see all the UK guys at the valentines meet in 2 weeks! Warwick University Skydiving Club
  4. I have these same winkles, quite annoying. My reserve pack does seem ok though. edited to add: its a smart / pilot 150 in the rig. Warwick University Skydiving Club
  5. If you are going to langar, and are going to mention you havent jumped since Nov I would personally speak to one of the instructors (who will be fine with it) about this rather than the CCI. Just trying to help you avoid a million questions as I have seen him get pretty anal about this sort of thing, god knows why, as said, other dz's wouldnt even bat an eyelid. Enjoy the sky, Efex Warwick University Skydiving Club
  6. The best way to do this is grab yourself a WARP coach and do a few coaching jumps. You will learn alot more, and get feedback, than you will be able to from a 'space toy' (as I believed they are called, not mentioning you need to retrieve them before you pull). 7. Hey PPL, I am looking to buy a sonic ff suit but for the love of god cannot locate their website, ive googled, search the forums to no joy. Could someone please put me out of my misery and point me in the right direction? Regards, Marc Warwick University Skydiving Club
  8. If your only able to jump on 1 day of the week at Tilstock then I would recommend going to Hinton. We send our RAPS students there and most of them are jumping throughout the week. Blue skies, p.s Silk glove liners frickin rock!! Warwick University Skydiving Club

  10. Not only is the wind tunnel in Milton Keynes progressing, but the following just landed in my mailbox: Hi, A while ago you left your email to receive updates as to our tunnel development progress…. Firstly apologies for the lack of contact since that time, we encountered issues which led to the suspension of the project. Since then, we have redirected our efforts and joined forces with BodyFlying Zurich who is responsible for design and installation of many facilities including FlayAway in the US. With our new partners we are able to co-fund the development of the Bedford tunnel and work has resumed. So, we will be proceeding shortly with publicity / live webcams for site progress & marketing. Our opening date will be confirmed in the next 4 weeks when we have signed contracts with our suppliers etc. I am excited by the prospect of opening what will be a world leading facility, by far the largest and most powerful facility anywhere with a key focus on delivering quality and value to skydivers. We will be offering excellent block and repeat booking prices, and also intend to offer exclusively to reduced price pre-booked ‘trial’ times for the first couple of months on opening. I will endeavour to send out regular updates as we go through this busy stage! However check our website for updates as the project continues www.bodyflight.co.uk We have put some initial pictures on the site to give an idea! I am happy to answer any questions or discuss any ideas you may have. For those of you that sent us CV’s to enquired about vacancies… we aim to begin the recruitment process in February and will contact you again at that time. Kind regards Paul Mayer Bodyflight Limited - Bedford Tel. 07721 376709 www.bodyflight.co.uk Warwick University Skydiving Club
  11. My 2 cents, I love my pilot, I have flown a few others and the pilot has always remained the most predictable . Which is exactly what im looking for with my number of jumps. Warwick University Skydiving Club
  12. Hi MiniClaire, I know where you are coming from. I used to be a regular at a particular DZ in the UK and was doing a Hop n' Pop from 5K, with SL students being distpatched at 3K when the exact same thing happened. When asked to get in the door the student in question asked to remain in the the plane. At the time the instructor seemed to accept this. Back on the ground and within earshot of the student I heard the instructor and CCI cursing the student (I know it is hard to believe). The student later offered to pay for another jump ticket but was refused out right by both the instructor and CCI and told to *u*k off and find another DZ. I accept its possible for something to have been said between the student and instructor after I exited, but I find this sort of unproffesional behaviour completely unacceptable. No-one is perfect and not everyone is capable of getting out of the plane on attempt number 1. Like has been said above, unless there was some dangerous behaviour I feel everyone should be given a second chance. I say 'used' to be a regular at this DZ because it was not the only instance of unprofessionalism I have oberserved from the CCI and some instructors. I would rather take my money somewhere else. As I would recommend to you MiniClaire as soon as you are successful in your first jump. Warwick University Skydiving Club
  13. Heya, hfk is right about those 13k CreW passes, we dont really have them in the UK due to the slightly cold air. I appreciate everyones input and will certainly look into doing another canopy control lecture. Also, there seems to be some debate about which is the best digital alti to use. Is there one which stands out from the rest? Also would you continue to wear the analog one when using a digital? Blue skies, Marc Warwick University Skydiving Club
  14. Hey Guys, It might help to add that this was a cessna load, and I was only one out on last pass (i.e the only canopy in the air at the time). Had I not been I would never have done what I did, due to getting in other peoples way. This was probably the first thing drilled into everyone at my last canopy control seminar. I understand the bashings and will take onboard what has been said about the miniumum safe heights for practicing this sort of thing. Hindsight is a beautiful thing (especially in this sport) and in retrospect I think what my original question should have been: How long (either time or altitude) does it take for a canopy take to return to full glide (max flare potential) after a radical toggle turn? Regards, Marc
  15. Hi ppl, I have currently put about 60 jumps onto my Pilot 150, loaded just under 1.1. For the first time this weekend I experimented with a 180 toggle turn at around 1000ft, in an attempt to gain an appreciation for the alitude lost during such turns. I was surprised by exactly how much altiude I had lost after going back to normal glide, again with my canopy showing me just how much I dont know and how important it remains to make small incremental steps. I did a search in these forums and couldnt find a similar question (my apologies if I missed one) but I would like to know what you personally consider the minimum atltidue is for such turns. I appreciate this is heavily canopy dependant so if there are any other 150 pilots out there, loading around 1.1, you reply would be greatly appreciated. Marc Warwick University Skydiving Club

  18. Heya, I know its a little off topic but what are the mins to get the FS coaching rating in the UK? Regards, Warwick University Skydiving Club
  19. All good points guys, cheers :-) Alters my ideas somewhat. One thing we can probably all agree on though is that we all want to be covereed in the unfortunate event of something going wrong. Blue skies, Warwick University Skydiving Club
  20. hey guys, no need for the flames. I admit my post was perhaps more suitable in the bonfire forum but I still feel every human being has the 'right' to be brought back to health, i.e not forced to live with a condition which has a solution, even if that means a new heart, without being handed a bill at the end of it. Chad like you mention, most of the british public does pay tax's but everyone pays the same tax whether they use the health service or not. There are also parts of society which do not pay taxes, i.e those which earn below a certain thresold. This includes me a student so for me I do get free health care. Admittedly there are problems but I feel it must always be provided as a viable alternative to private health care so that those which are not as fortunate in life can receive a similar level of care. Dbattman what do you mean by "The only difference is that the politicians can't use it as leverage in an election"? Surely this would be a good thing because better public health care is good for everyone, please explain.
  21. I live in the UK and would really like to know why a civilized country, especially one as rich as the USA does not provide free health insurance. I would have thought it goes along the same lines of freedom of speech and freedom from persecution. I live happily in the knowledge that my broken body will be repaired free of charge in the unfortunate event I dent myself. Warwick University Skydiving Club
