Does Pat Robertson ever shut the hell up?
unformed replied to niolosoiale's topic in Speakers Corner
Pat's my favorite! I especially liked it when he got busted and fined for using his charity's plane to haul his diamond mining equipment to Africa and then when he came out in defense of Charles Taylor in Liberia because of the gold mining interests that they share. I think it's called "Freedom Gold" or something like that. I also kinda liked the commandment breaking call for the assassination of another world leader. Good stuff! The Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not use your national resources in a way that doesn't benefit God's favorite country!! I know everybofy here thinks, oh so he owns a diamond mine, he's just lining his pockets. This isn't the case. These days you need money to get the Word of God out, and that's all he's doing. Just wait, you'll see. When Judgement Day comes around you'll understand. Zeus will strike you down with his lightning rod. This ad space for sale. -
Does Pat Robertson ever shut the hell up?
unformed replied to niolosoiale's topic in Speakers Corner
What if he is right? If that's what your God does to millions of innocent people, I'll gladly burn in hell for eternity. Other than that, I can't possibly respond to such a statement. Zipp0 Who are you to question God's reasons? Have you read the Book of Job? I think not or you wouldn't assume God has any reason for doing anything. He put us here; he has the right to to take us away whenever he feels like it. This ad space for sale. -

Religious bigotry rarely solves more problems than it creates. Sometimes different people have different ways of looking at things and different ways of taking care of their lives. You should be more open-minded. You might even learn something from someone you don't agree with. This ad space for sale. -

What do you guys got against Robertson and Falwell? They might not be the greatest people in the world, but there's just doing the best they can to make the world a better place. Is that bad? What are you doing to make the world a better place? Or are you just jealous that people actually listen to them? This ad space for sale. -

... what exactly are you insinuating? wait i have an idea..its a mat, with a bunch of conclusions on it...that you can jump to.. ill make a million dollars.. and this is where you are drastically wrong. if learning to fly honestly hasnt changed yuor perspective on life, or influenced your "life knowledge" then you truly are a lost soul.. howevr, if this was all a ruse on your part, accept my apology, otherwise you shall be banned to the looney bin..so to speak have a nice day yeah, skydiving has changed my perception on life. however, i'm not ignorant enough to think that skydiving is the only way to figure things out. what exactly does having 160 jumps in 6 years have to do with anything? what does having any material possessions have to do with anything? the one person i've learned the most from about life was from an old man i met in costa rica who lived in a little shack he built by hand. he had never in his life left this little remote place in costa rica and yet taught me more and made an impression on me stronger than anybody else ever has. so, i'm gonna ask you once again: what does having 160 jumps in 6 years have to do with anything at all besides my flying skills? From what I can tell, having God on your side seems to be a license to kill and torture. Religion and government seem to be a really ugly mix that results in bad things happening to people who don't quite fit in with that religion. Maybe not the way of God, but sure seems to be the way of governments who claim to know Him really well. Walt Where do we have the license to kill and torture? We have gone to war for a reason, because we were attacked. If someone came into your house and totally vandalised it, would you not want revenge? I don't know you. Maybe you wouldn't. Maybe you will just say "okay", lower your head, and start building everything up again. That would be nice and all. It would be nice to turn the other cheek. That is what Jesus said anyways. But if the attacker smacks your other cheek? Do you just turn the first back to him? Do you just keep turning cheeks until you're a dead man? I think not. That is why we have to attack the Middle East. Because we were attacked. Same reason why we went into World War II. Because we were attacked. Or should we have just sat there and let Japan start invading more of our country? This ad space for sale.

Ever used your pet as a clean up rag after the act?

If this poll audience correctly represents society, which I'm sure it does, then there's more people that do than don't. So the question really is, what the fuck is wrong with you? This ad space for sale. -
Yeah I'm sorry I don't have mommy and daddy to pay for all my jumps. I had to take a few years off to go to school and get a good job. Wait. What does skydiving have to do with life knowledge? Oh right. Nothing. This ad space for sale.

Good point. Let's go back to the Godly days when witches were burned at the stake. Walt Why do you have to kill witches? That is not right. God said, "Thou shalt not kill". Witches may be evil, but they are people too. As in 1984, we can teach them to live better, purer lives. That is the way of God, not kill everybody who doesn't agree with you. This ad space for sale.

Sweet .......Mandated Morality.. oh yeah...I remember now. I wonder if George is using another George's book as a how to book rather than the cautionary tale that warned of totalitarianism. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2002/07/28/IN244190.DTL Since you're going to bring up 1984, did you actually finish the book? If I remember correctly, and I do, since I just checked the text, the last sentence in the book was "He (Winston) loved Big Brother". He was taught the folly of his ways and he repented and he joined the government. Why? Why did he do this? Everybody talks about 1984 as being a depressing tale. I beg to differ. I think it is a liberating tale. It shows us how much better and moral people we could be with the use of technology. Yeah, Big Brother is watching. That's because Big Brother cares. It is. Maybe he could have learned the folly of his ways earlier in his life. But you know something - he cleaned up and he found God, without anybody telling him to. That says something, and I say, good for him. This ad space for sale.

It's about time they do this. Had the NSA been monitoring bedrooms back in Clinton's times, maybe he wouldn't have had the urge to get a blowjob from his intern. This is very good for the morality of this godless country. People will think twice before boning their secretaries in their office restroom or going in a bar bathroom to do a line of coke. Excuse me sir, I left something on the plane...
unformed replied to niolosoiale's topic in The Bonfire
Well you know, about like jumping out of a plane. Really cool. My tandem master was an awesome guy. Took my friend with me (who I warned on thursday that she would be going) and a couple other friends spectated. I'll tell ya though, my dreams did a pretty good job recreating the experience prior to every doing it. The wind was less uncomfortable than that, but everything else was spot on. And I will be jumping again. God knows I want a $1,000 a month raise to devote to doing this Skydiving is an expensive hobby, thats for sure! $180 bucks for your first jump then half your paycheck for the rest of your life. -
Reminds me of some guys that dressed as nuns on Halloween many years ago. Had NWG embroidered on their frock (or whatever you call it). Invariably, everyone they bumped into asked them "What's NWG?" To which they'd throw open the frock revealing toy guns and shout repeatedly "Nuns With Guns" as they pretended to fire them over their heads. Don't know wheere they got the idea, but they were so ahead of the times. Thanks for that. I now know my halloween costume. This ad space for sale.

It's not that I'm not caring about the feelings of humans because it's embedded in the culture. I'm not caring about the feelings of humans because if we all sit around worrying incessantly about the political correctness of everythign we say or do, nothing gets done. ANYTHING you say can offend someone, but here's the thing: they're just words. Why does "fuck" offend people? It's a one syllable word that has no physical effect on anyone. It doesn't put a hex on your family. It doesn't make your children get SuperAIDS, it doesn't make your car turn into a cat. Just a word. Have you ever seen South Park? Do you know why they're called curse words? They're called curse words because when incanted wnough times they invoke demons. I know everybody thinks South Park is just some cartoon, but much of South Park is based on little-known facts. Both Stone and Parker have tons of knowledge and go through much research to make each episode, and it is a fat that the reason the f-word and the s-word are curse words is that back in the old days, they wre used by witches, in addition to other rituals, to invoke demon spirits. Luckily, these rituals are forgotten thse days, but the words themselves are still dangerous. This ad space for sale.

On a wood stove both the pot and the kettle get black from the smoke. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/pot+calling+the+kettle+black So this is what you say. But I beg to differ . Where is the evidence. Were you here when they decided to coin this trm? i think not. I think it is highly convenient that on wood stoves, both the pot and the kettle turn black. I think whoever made this said that's what it came from so he could be condescending while having an alibi so as to seem innocent. This ad space for sale.

It's embedded in the culture, and the ocean isn't always blue. It's brown some places, green in others, etc. Hell, if people try and change it, I'm going to use it MORE just because I hate the trend towards changing everything to be non-offensive. People need to have a thicker skin, methinks. I'm tired of people not caring about the feelings of other people, just for historical reasons or "because it's embedded in our culture." Slavery was embedded in our culture, yet we felt a need to stop that. Why? Why not just way we've been doing this for years; you need to learn to deal with it, or go back to your own country. We changed it becaus it was bad, bad for the human condition, bad for society. That's what this is about. It's not about backing down to whiny little punks, it's about not discriminating, not judging, it's about bettering humanity. This ad space for sale.

Why does the pot call the kettle black? I think this is a term stemming from racist days when it was bad to be black. I think this phrase is ignorant, racist, and derogatory, and should be updated to fit modern times. Why don't be change it, the sky calling the ocean blue? That is not derogatory to anyone, yet says the same thing. This ad space for sale.

Why you do what you do even though it's "bad" for you.
unformed replied to niolosoiale's topic in The Bonfire
personally, i don't find skydiving wasteful at all. most people (whuffos) don't seem to understand this, but skydiving is not just about jumping out of an airplane. it is not just about the adrenaline rush. actually i don't even get much of an adrenaline rush anymore. rw, freeflying, swooping, whatever your discipline, is difficult, it's takes a lot of effort and a lot of dedication to get good at it. and that, at least to me, is what skydiving is really about - about having something that is not only fun, but hard enough that you can constantly better yourself, something where you can never be absolutely perfect. i had a discussion with one of the world freefly champions this weekend and he said the same thing. what he likes is that even though he is one of the best in the sport, there is still so much more to learn. it's not just skydiving, I've talked to people who's addictions are other sports, and to them, it's the same thing. They can lose themselves doing it, but at the same time, there is room for constant improvement. And when you are constantly improving, that is how the quality of life is improved. The "bad" things in my opinion, are the things that are truly wasteful, in body and mind, rather than material resources. The two biggest that come to mind are TV and alcohol/drugs. Of course, they all have their place, but when overused there is absolutely nothing good that comes out of them. This ad space for sale. -
Am I better off since Bush took office? To that, I must answer a resounding Yes. I have graduated college, gotten a good job, quit my job to start my own company, quit doing drugs and got my life on track. So, yes, my life has become better since Bush came into office. And this is all because of his ruling as president. Well, him, and the love of God, but he represents God so it's all the same. This ad space for sale.
