I jumped my very own rig on #22. Now the only reason I had said gear was because I found a very nice deal here on the DZ.COM classifieds. I had no intentions, nor the resources to purchase gear that early in my jumping career, but I saw the rig, realized it was a rare chance to get exactly what I wanted (a perfect fit at that) for such a good price. So one full paycheck, a maxed credit card, and part of a student loan later I had my rig. I’ve only put 22 jumps on it so it hasn’t exactly paid itself off yet, but it’s nice to have, and I plan on jumping it for a long time. I also received my first altimeter with the rig. At about 25 jumps I acquired a second hand RW suit for cheap, which I have only worn maybe 5 times. I am now looking at a used Free Fly suit which I will hopefully purchase this week, and well I still swipe a protect helmet from the student bin before every jump, but that’s just a matter of getting off my but and ordering one. I’ve also purchased quite a few pair of goggles; I always seam to loose those fuckers. .:skip

Does anyone still flat pack, and if so what canopy are you packing? I'm having trouble learning to Pro Pack and seam to have better luck getting everythign where I want it to be while flat packing. This is on a Sabre 170. .:skip

I open at 4 as a rule. I’m a very low time jumper and I want the time because I’m still learning about my canopy etc. I’m not afraid of the ground at 3 per say, I rather just want to at this point in my skydiving career get my canopy open slightly above the up jumpers and below the tandems and AFP students; and also have time to analyze any situation that might arise. Before boarding the plane I look at all the groups, talk with everyone just curiously inquiring into what everyone else is doing which usually prompts a “group decision” on how to board the plane. Once in flight I reiterate to the groups around me that I am opening at 4, and on a few occasions we have adjusted our exit order minutes before jump run, and or I have been asked to allot for more separation by helpful up jumpers who understood where I was coming from. So far there have been yea little problems however one time I watched a jumper who I had “coordinated” with dump at 4.8 when we had agreed on 4, fortunately our exit separation was very adequate and everything was good however it made me think a bit. At 40 jumps I feel a little awkward questioning an up jumper about opening altitude when he or she says “oh I’m going to open somewhere around 3 or 4”, and I do understand that anything can happen and we have to anticipate these factors before they happen, but I do think that coordination and a “stern” dump altitude can allow me to safely open at 4. Hmm well that’s my rant, damn it’s late. .:skip

Sorry to hear this Zennie: It sounds like you are dooing what has to be done for yourself and well, as many have said it only gets better over time. Come on out to Spaceland sometime we would all love to see ya. Ill pay up on this suit and buy beer to boot. Hang in there dude. .:skip

No Jumps today, but I plan on beeing on just about every load that flys out of SpaceLand tommorow. I hope! .:skip

I’ve seen it before, however have never tried it. I’ve noticed Hieniken is quite a popular beer among skydivers, but I can’t stand the stuff. SKUNKY freaking beer. However being a dark beer fan I might just have to take me a lil taste. .:skip

Aww man no apologies necessary. Looks awesome!! I have droped my screen resolution way down, thrown the cam up full screen and I’m sitting here wearing my rig, just like the real thing. Err just joking. Looks great though, good job. .skip

Oh oh look at me. I was kissed at 6000 feet today by a fine looking lady, and I am glowing! Also atempted my fist 4 way; who cares that I funneled the exit and broke away from the other 3, I managed to lurk close by for the remainder of the jump and that was just cool. One more first; on said first 4 way I was also jumping my first pack job and my sabre 170 slamed the HELL out of me, but she opened and landed me fine. This is just too much fun. .:skip

Well being a young chickling jumper I am still experiencing new and amazing stuff on each and every jump. Today there were many, however the fly by I received was truly amazing and quite a great welcome in to the sport of skydiving. It was my 24th jump, the second on my own gear, I pulled lower then I have ever pulled before (4), opened great, looked around, and realized that I had fellow jumpers all around me and that more was expected of me in order to keep from killing two of us. I’m at about 2.5 everything looks good and then I spot Scot and he is directly below me, and wait no more to my right and wait no he is right next to me, RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO ME, and we are flying together. Oh shit I was scared and he knew it, I realized that this guy knows what he is doing and I just kind of kept a heading and let it all happen. I spouted out a WOO HOO to him and he gave me the same back and then took off not to be seen again until we were on the ground. Well to me that was just a great thing, I’ve been in free fall with jumpers before, I’ve watched jumpers dump below me, and in fact watched a cut away happen a thousand or so feet below me, but I have never flow my canopy side by side with another jumper, and man,,,,, I just fucking loved it. Later (on the ground) I approached him and said “thanks man, that was great”, he nodded and said “yeah I figured that was the closest you’ve been to another jumper under canopy; it only gets better from here”. Well, I still from time to time question “what the hell am I doing jumping out of planes”, and it only takes little incidents like the above mentioned to realize that this is just an amazing experience that I don’t want to miss out on. I am completely wowed at something I have done, I like skydiving, that’s it. ,:skip

Just got home from spaceland with my first rig and I was like "hmm where should I keep it" I then cleaned out a closet that hasnt been cleaned in years and put it in there all by it self. Just wondering, where do you keep yours. By the way I took my first packing class tonight and that is ALLOT harder then it looks. Hats off to all you packers. .:skip

I've had this verry problem here at my job before and all I did to remedy the situation was put the fan on a diffrent power buss. Basically just pulled the plug and inserted a diffrent one. .:skip

Exactially one of my reactions to my first solo. .:skip

Great thread. I actually did my first "off student status" solo this past weekend and definately had a moment where I looked at the ground and for the first time REALLY let myself understand what I was dooing. I was like "good god kid what the hell have you gotten yourself into". Alas I landed safe and have on ever jump since then, I'm learning allot, I'm confident, and having a blast. .:skip

I have been tryign to find some info on the web about a C16 harness sizing and have come up short. I am 5'6" and weigh around 150, farily slim build with a small beer belly. Does anyone have any experiance with the C16 harnes size. I've found a great deal on a used rig and the harness size is the only possiable thing that could nix the deal at this point. Thanks. .:skip

I'm in the midst of purchasing a new used rig and neither the seller or myself have ever shipped a rig before. Does anyone have any advice concerning how to box it up, who to use as the carrier, etc. Thanks in advance. .:skip
