Dho, another naive newb packing question! So I went out this past weekend and packed for myself a couple times. I’ve got the pro pack fold down pretty well,,,I think. Getting it in the bag was a little tougher, however I am definitely creating my own little tricks and it is becoming easier each time. And my saber even opened fairly nice, a little off heading but I think I’ve identified that problem. SO I’m at home practicing, and POP I brake a rubber band (a stow band as apposed to a locking stow band, is that the right terminology?). No problem I’ve changed rubber bands with a packer a few times. So I grab my stock and replace the rubber band however my rubber band is smaller then the bands we have been putting on at the DZ. So much so that it was difficult to get it attached, but then easy to make the stow. The stow is significantly tighter then the rest. My thinking is that all the stows should obviously have the same tension on the lines, however for learning sake what effects could having a tighter stow combined with looser stows have on my canopies openings? Again thanks for anything you have to offer on the subject. I’ve learned a whole shit load about my canopy in the last few weeks, and wow it just keeps coming. .:skip

Burning man is held in Texas now ? what .. ? .:skip

I biffed in on my last jump and got the upper left reserve portion of my JAV. slightly damp. I'm not even sure if it was damp enough to seep through to the canopy and it dried relatively quick. Could this have any adverse effect on my reserve canopy and it's opening. Just for conversations sake how wet would a container need to get in order to warrant a Reserve Repack. Rock on! Whaaaaa Thanks. .:skip

Definately! She is the shit, I'm a lucky man. .:skip

Hate tho's faggy(pink) dz student suits they make me wear.
skip replied to LukeDuke's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh man during AFP I wore “the pink suit” several times. It was black with pink stripes and pink grippers, and it was very tight on me. But it worked well for my teacher (I’m small he is big) and it worked well for me. I wore “the pink suit” with my head held high, fore I was jumping out of a plane, and that’s just awesome. 40-50 jumps later I bought my first new to me suit and I still managed to trash that thing. .:skip -
My SO has made 2 tandems and has enjoyed both of them very much so; however she does not want to peruse skydiving beyond tandems and maybe some day a few AFF jumps just for the accomplishment of it. It’s cool though, she’s met some people at the DZ and thus does not get so bored when I’m up, and she does wants to make more tandems, just when ever the time and money is right. Were going out of town soon and I’m going to hit up some DZ’S, she has expressed interest in making another tandem because it’s been a while (she definitely has a very mild bug) and just jumping at different locations (scenery, the coast) has her kind of excited. She listens to my stories, watches my videos and knows quite a bit about gear. Don’t let this fool you though she often hurls “you love skydiving more then me”, “if only I was your rig I could get your full attention”. All in all it works well, hehe just today she reminded me to set my clock foreword on Saturday (I had no idea it was that time again) and she immediately noticed my face light up and said “yes yes Neil one more hour of jumping light”. .:skip

Toot Toot; Vacation time! I’m going to meet my family in Gulf Shores and was hoping to get in a few days of skydiving. Anyone jump at Emerald Coast? What about weekday jumping. Also are there any other DZ’S relatively close to the beach? Danka .:skip

I’m finally getting off my ass and making a consorted effort to take my packing skills to a working level and I have run into a few small problems/quirks. I am flying a Sabre 170 – 200ish Jumps, container is a Jav J3. I have been packing 3-4 times from start to finish for the last three days and plan on keeping up this pace until I can get to the DZ on Saturday and have someone check me out. Any tips hints would kick ass. 1. Arghh I need some tips on rolling the nose. I roll one side and it un-rolls when I try to roll the other side. I really have a problem rolling both sides without switching the canopy from one shoulder to the other. If seen people just roll all 9 cells together and push them to the center. What are the advantages or disadvantages of this? 2. I remember hearing something on Break Away about inducing a line over mal by dressing the cocooned canopy to much by pulling lines from the center. How much is too much, can you tell if you’ve pulled lines form the center. How could this cause a line over mal. 3. Getting the S-Folded canopy in the bag is getting easier every time. The thing is it does not look pretty once in the bag. The lines are in the center and everything is in there good, I just have to work the excess canopy into the bag. When I pull it out of the bag it seams to come out in the proper orderly order. Should this worry me, could this cause any problems? I’m sure these are all difficult issues to address without watching me pack, and I need to get with a proficient packer to go over this, I am just trying to get familiar with as much as possible as soon as possible. Thanks .:skip

***ok, first of all, who pays $155 for a nintendo?? [/quot] it's a game cube with 3 games and a few accessories, definately worth the money. His feedback is for the most part good, quite a power seller. Money order: as convenient as paypal is thats souds like the way to go. .:skip

Has anyone ever been ripped off on ebay? 10 days ago I won an auction for a nintendo and have yet to hear from the seller; though he had no problem excepting my Pay Pal transfer of 155.00 within 16 hours of "end of auction". So I have mailed him several times and still have not heard a pep from him. I think Pay pall has some kind of money retraction thingey/investigation and I know I can leave bad juju feedback on ebay, but does anyone have any other advice. He might just be slow to the response, but I think 10 days with contact is pusshing it a little. thanks .:skip

Though as many have pointed out it wasn’t an accident I left the plane, however that “sunset jump” scared the shit out of me; bar none the scariest jump I have been on in my thus short skydiving career. Dive plan: solo sit, we held at altitude for a bit for an unknown reason to me; you could feel the excitement (ree tension) in the plane as day became night. Green light I hear somebody in a group way in front of me say “find the gas station”, which is across the street from the LZ. I got to the door, thought twice about jumping and jumped. Now in retrospect I maybe should have rode the plane down, I have few jumps as it stands now and this jump was like 30 ago. However it had been a kick ass day of jumping and being the “indestructible” little fucker that I thought I was I jumped. Last out, nice exit, for the first time felt myself transition off the hill into a stable up right sit, got comfy and looked around, “damn it’s dark. Freaked a little went to belly, found the gas station and pulled at pre-defined altitude. Hmm that actually wasn’t that bad, I know where I’m at, everything looks good, I can spot the rest of the load. Time to land, ground, horizon, ground, horizon, flare, ugh way to high, SMACK, crawl back to the hanger. No broken bones but I twisted up my ankle really bad, ripped open my “jumping jeans” and ripped open my knee, didn’t go back up for 3 weeks. Hell yeah it was fun but these days I definitely look at the sun’s position before I hop on those “sunset loads” .:skip

I gave up the green stuff a few years back, and well I am so glad I did. Like you I had move back in with “my oldies” half way across the country from my doper friends, and I suppose it was just time. Unlike many fortunate people, smoking really put a dapper on what I was capable of doing with myself, I got stoned and complacently out there. So a year later I moved back to my hood and my friends were still smoking, just as I left them, but there were a few friends that were gone gone. Just this weekend I ran into a good friend that has been battling a speed, cocaine, crack whatever it was (I don’t even know what the drugs are these day) and he looked really good and told me about this twelve step program he had entered and it was obvious he was happy with himself and happy he could “show off” his new state of mind with me. The thing is at said meeting he didn’t resent me at all, in fact I don’t think he ever resented me; he knew he had a problem and I never snubbed my nose at him about his problem, just tried to pass some of my success his way. Some people eventually get it and some don’t, all I or you can do is remember that given bad addiction this or that person is still our friend, and friends are friends. So yeah I would talk to her, she knows she has a problem and if you just be a friend in your conservation what bad could come. Hell take her skydiving, I have a theory that if I just threw all of my “fucked up” friends out of an airplane they would really think twice about what they are doing to their lives with drugs. Congrats on the quitting pot thing, I haven’t smoked daily in like three years, however about twice a year I succumb to the “old times” with my friends and accept the joint, and I always hate it and immediately go home to sleep it off, I’m cool with that and I’m sure it will never go away but I feel great now that I don’t smoke 3-9 times a day. Now if I could just stop drinking so much. .:skip

My rig has a few muddy patches etc and I wanted to spiff it up a bit. I've read through all the past threads about cleaning rigs etc. and have the jist of it down. I just have one remaining qustion, What kind of soap would one use to spot clean a balck container? Non bleaching laundry detergant, plain bar soap, or Shout as was mentioned in a previous thread. I obviously don't want to use anythign harmful to the container meterial. Thanks. .:skip
