I'm staying at home (although the thought of staying in one of the call rooms on labor and delivery was tempting... especially since I'm on call) But I am sucking it up... just a bit warm. And NO! Not due to hot flashes/power surges (menopause). All the parts still work here.

Central air died on Wednes or Thursday (we think lightening strike... but who knows). Plans to get it replaced/repaired tomorrow, but it's been a few days with no air conditioning! It was a bit uncomfortable (90d F in the upper bedroom.... even at night!! And not just cuz I'm that hot) which makes me realize just how spoiled and pampered I've become. Years ago, people would work out on the farm in this weather. No whining. No hand wringing about the heat index. Just doing the job... now ... uuugh. Four showers today alone. (not that I stink that much... it just feels so much nicer after the shower) Any other opinions on the wussiness of today?

Agreed. Prevention is always prefered. Prevent death due to accidents with safety and education. Prevent death due to illness with vaccines and early detection. Prevent death due to crime?! You need to address the criminals. The people. But removing the tools from legal possession is NOT the answer. (Why should I give up my possessions because someone might steal it - which is illegal - and use it illegally.) I will fight tooth and nail against having my liberties revoked for a purpose that WILL NOT produce a significant impact on the criminal. If we could prevent crime without limiting the acts of "non crazy" types... then you'll be getting somewhere.

1. It's already out there. As mentioned previously, even if Colt, Winchester, Remington, Ruger, Barrett, Accuracy International, HK, CZ, et al, all decided tomorrow to close doors. There will still be guns out there. Not just the ones previously made, but there are people smart enough to know how to make them using imporvised materials. Pandoras box is open. Deal with it. 2. It's already illegal to use the weapons in crimes. Criminals don't care. They are already breaking the law by stealing, killing.... removing the legally owned firearms WON'T change that. 3. Go to a range. Pick up a gun. Learn a bit. Ignorance and fear can be just as dangerous as criminals.

Taking the sarcasm out... it's a good question. Why do guns scare you? I have always lived in an environment with firearms (my family hunted, my husband owns a very well respected firearms manufacturing company, I have competed in long range events and enjoy pistol events....) I don't understand the fear that some people have of a tool. I've seen my share of horror movies (and not cuz I wanted to...) and saw many power drills used in ghastly murders, but I'm not so scared of them to demand that we have no drills in the house. I've seen patients in the ER with multiple stab wounds... but yet I still have knives in the kitchen. It's not the tool that you need to shy away from .... it's the crazy people that use that tool for illegal and immoral means.

The other thing to consider here is are they really sleeping around. As the prop turns has many rumors that aren't really based on fact. Also... does he really know he has an STD? Some diseases (High Risk HPV and trichomonas for example), the guys have no idea that they might even have these... so when the ob/gyn tells the girl to have her S.O. treated, that conversation tends to go something like this: her: "OH MY GOD!!! You gave me an STD! You rotten dog!" him: "HELL NO! Wasn't me! I don't have anything wrong with my stuff! You're the one sleeping around" her: "NO! I thought you loved me!" (insert tears, throwing lamps, yelling.... ect) And although he might honestly have something, there's little chance that he's going to go and get it tested (especially if he doesn't have any sympotms) Now... if I strongly suspected someone of having multiple relationships with an STD and not taking precautions. I would have a chat with that person directly.
