  1. The main recommendation that I would have it to try to know at least basics of the language for whatever country that you choose to visit. I find it a little arrogant that so many travel abroad and expect the foreign cultures to adapt to us. Many people do speak English, and the pee pee dance will help most of the time, but knowing a few phrases will make the trip so much more enjoyable and it will show a respect for their cultures. If you don't want to learn German and Spanish and French and... Australians kinda speak English.
  2. For the same reason you like guys playing vollyball! Fair enough. (where is my top gun dvd........)
  3. Really? Then why do I have this poster of a certain dz.com chick holding a gun trying to look sexy? trying?! I think she did a pretty damn good job. But still... why are they so interesting? XY types are hard to understand.
  4. The other thought to consider - whether the coroner decides this is suicide or accidental overdose, it wouldn't really give the "answer." There is no way now to know his thoughts or intentions prior to his death. His mind is now quiet (that we can understand).... speculating on it is rather arrogant.
  5. This is actually interesting (in a sad ironic way) Just a few nights ago, one of the news stories was about a local doctor (a neurologist at KU) died while skiing in CO. He fell, sustained a high level cervical fracture and died before he could be helped. This was a front line news story. Almost 10min on the "tragic loss". But, why is his death (or this skier or Heath Ledgers or anyones) more "tragic" than anyone elses. People die skiing, skydiving, driving, running, and even just sitting in front of the tv watching Springer. Focusing on the death of one . . . . when there are hundreds. Additionally... I have gotten a little "annoyance" from my work that I do choose to engage in a rather dangerous pasttime.... but yet skiing is ok for doctors, and how many drs have their private pilots, or even golf.... it's all "dangerous." We all die. I hope that this skier enjoyed the life and challenges that he loved.
  6. No... but it will likely be moved to SC Just wondering though.... why are those videos so facinating? It's just shooting.
  7. Don't stall on the surgery and say "I'll do it in 6mos/next year/ when it hurts more" because the damage keeps accumulating and gets progressively harder to repair.
  8. Last Feb., I had arthroscopic repair of the medial meniscus, removal of the lateral meniscus and replacement of the ACL (cadaveric). I did it under a spinal and actually got to watch the whole thing (typically anesthesia doesn't like you to do that... cuz patients get weird when they see people cutting on them) But, I got to directly see all the stuff that he later would have told me about. I had the surgery on a Thurs. and was in clinic on the next wednes. (on crutches, of course). Due to the meniscial issues, my recovery and rehab was a bit prolonged. But when I was allowed to rehab, I worked it hard and got things almost "normal." Prior to my ankle injury a couple of weeks ago, the only deficits that I had were with deep knee bends it was sometimes difficult to stand it back up. Don't wait on it. Good Luck with surgery.
  9. Um...Karen...what are you saying about my Brontosaurus? That's one of my favorite dinosaurs. Othniel Marsh lied. (I'm thinking his story wasn't good enough. That's why he did it.... either that or he was an international spy) But nope, no Bronto burgers for Fred.
  10. Have to agree 100% And just because we don't see a "cure for cancer" or other socially acceptable reasons for this doesn't mean that the results of his research won't be used in the future for other experiments and progress. Some that might some day be very important.... we just don't know it yet. Good Luck Jeb!
  11. Ok... maybe it's the meds (although I am cutting back now) or maybe it's just me, but this thread got me to thinking about why people lie in general. House knows it - "all patients lie" Teachers know it - "the dog ate it, no REALLY!" Parents should know it, but refuse to see it - "lil Johnnie would NEVER lie to me!" History even knows it - can we say Brontosaurous? And the books were written by the victor. But WHY do people lie? Greed, Fear, Acceptance, Habit, Entertainment, International spy - those are the basic answers... but probably the best reason is that they don't have a good enough story on their own. So.... once my foot heals [cuz I broke it on this really rad move, I was test jumping a new canopy (it was a paracommander 57) from a helicopter into the andes, my ski fell off, I landed on the one ski, I knew something was broke when I landed, but HAD to finish the run. It was a 6mile slope at 70deg. Trees everywhere! But on my broken leg (with the bones sticking out) I turned and missed all but one.... It just jumped in front of me, cuz trees do that. But luckily, I just grazed it because I must have been doing 150mph. I just knew how to roll right. Then I got back up on the ski and finished the run.] I'll work on getting better stories.
  12. play along, all stupid, all in awe.. keep the laughter to myself! That's what I would probably do. Until they were deeply entrenched in the story . . . but in the end, they would get shot down, big flames, lots of debris. If they were nice about it all, I might tell them where they could go to TRULY get the experience.... otherwise I would just tell them where they could go.
  13. I do have a friend that was "put on suspension" for "unauthorized use of teeth".... but she wasn't a moderator.
  14. Thank you for the kind offer. But I would prefer to keep my firearms (I may not "require" them at this point, but like them. They are pretty and shiny and.... oh yeah, MINE.).... and don't worry about that French cheese that you were using as bait. I would rather have Wisconsin cheese (do any of the French cheeses squeak?!)
  15. That is a wonderful website. Not that it changes who I chose to send money to, but it allows me to understand where that money is going. I was very (happily) surprised by the score that the American Red Cross was given. A little disappointed in the score of the Shriners Hospitals (but they have to pay those ortho docs something to keep them there)
  16. WOW! That was .... quite unsafe. I'm glad no one got hurt. Somebody get her a 9mm, maybe a .22, ok.... how about a An official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. Nah.... she'll put her eye out! Maybe just a water pistol.
  17. HEY!!! I got a flaming thread... and I didn't mention boobies or sex!
  18. DAMN. That was a good game. Good Luck NY!
  19. This is actually a good game!
  20. Don't be breathing heavy when you lose, it's just going to hurt your ribs more. (and I won't be jumping up and down when we win... )
