  1. Are we now moving to a point in society where the death penalty is an apt sentence for non-fatal attacks? Quote Not really trying to give a yes or no answer to your question lawrocket, but take this into consideration when you ask that question. This kid will be in prison for a minimum of 30 years before having the opportunity for parole. It will probably be longer, if this kid acts like this at such a young age imagine what learning life through the prison system will do to him. Now upon his release back into the real world, what will this kid be able to contribute to society, sure prisons have work programs that help you prepare to re-enter the world, but knowing one way, the prison way during some of the most crucial years of ones development, it will take an act from a higher power to have someone like this head out and adapt, most likely he won't be out long before he is back in. So weighing the costs and rewards of keeping this kid in prison as opposed to the death penalty, will this country really gain something out of spending probably upwards of hundreds of thousands after 30+ years. Most likely this kid will spend his entire life behind bars and all we have benefitted from it is ensuring that our tax dollars didn't have the chance to go to some other program that would in some way contribute to the well being of our country. 2. A better question: How is exercising my rights asking for a negative reaction from the police? Quote If exercising your rights means being non-compliant you are aking for trouble, maybe they are stepping on your rights in a given situation, but in there head they need to handle a situation in a certain manner. Now do you think yu are better off going with what they say and when the time is appropriate(the situation has de-escelated and you now have a chance to speak with the officer) make an attempt to exercise your rights, maybe explaining to them how they are infringing on them, and if they pursue further action by taking you in and they were in violation of your rights, well for one you have nothing to worry about because you will get off clean, and two you will probably get a nice settlement out of it. Or do you think you would be better off making an issue and refusing to follow their directions because they aren't allowing you to fully exercise your rights. when they have decided something needs to happen they are going to make it happen whether it be the right answer or not, and who is going to have the high ground in court, a man who cooperated with the officers and through a mistake ended up in handcuffs, or a man who starts problems screaming "I have my rights"? It's common sense, they control the situation, and even if a fucked up macho attitude led them to take action go with it, swallow your pride and take action when appropriate. Honestly I truly believe it's your own fault you have had negative experiences with the law, maybe ou should consider a lifestyle change so you won't find yourself in these situations, and if you must continue down such a path, maybe exercise a little more restraint when it comes to mouthing off or taking action in defense of "your rights". 4. I think the initial use of the military in Afghanistan was a good call; Iraq was a mistake. But now that we're there, there are certainly smart and not-so-smart ways to use the military. I hope we go with the smart ways. Quote Looking back at the invasion of Iraq I see both good and bad coming out of us actually entering the country, and I still have hope that we can pull it off over there, no matter how much people say cut and run, I say screw that, that would be the cowards way out, we started it we finish it. Two of my teammates just got back today after spending a week over there looking at where we will be operating, answering all the question we had so that we can start planning and packing. It's amazing how much the way we operate has changed since my first two trips, we're going to be doing some great things over there in the next year. The only thing that worries me is we're gonna be out in "indian country" this is where the BIG IED's happen, not the little mortar round in a garbage bag on the side of the road like you see in Baghdad, out there they have sufficient time to plant big ones, such as the double stacked anti tank mine buried in the road in Kirkuk last week, you could hide a vehicle in a crater that size History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 6. The comparison between the dangers of skydiving and being a LEO are really not very comparableQuote You're absolutely right on this one, how can any skydiver not born in the month of August possibly compare themselves to a Leo? It's the most dangerous of all the astrological signs, the inherent risk of having the universe revolve around me is astounding Sorry i couldn't help it History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 7. That's great! We all do what we can. Unfortunately, our leaders are currently using the military to make things worse. And that has to change. Quote I don't think it's so much the fact that the military IS being used as much as it is the WAY that the military is being used. With a little change in direction I think the military could be much more effective in helping the issues. I apologzie if I took your post the wrong way Bill, I wasn't sure if you were talking about using the military in any fashion or just the way it is currently being used. 8. WTF people you just didn't wake up one morning at 500 pounds and say "What the hell just happened to me?" Quote Or how about those who claim they are big boned? there's one hell of an excues, in the words of one of my former teammates, "Big-boned, fuck that bullshit!!! You ever seen a fat skeleton?" 9. happened it is a result of a soldier seeing the grenade and realizing that the only chance he may have is containing the explosion by trapping it under his helmetQuote and you know this why, did you ask all of them why they jumped on the grenade? If you did you must be one hell of a clairvoyant, and even if they were trying to trap the explosion under their helmet, who are you to say it was in defense of their own life and not their friends. Simple fact is that their actions more than likely resulted in one of their teammates going home alive, this action cost them their own life, how does this not justify a MOH. 11. If you can show that your analysis has been better than mine, please do so.Quote Rarely if ever do you see me commenting on the political side of this, things such as the WMD's, whether or not Iraq was a terrorist state, and the like I tend to steer clear of. I prefer to focus my efforts in my debates to things happening on the ground down-range, especially because it directly pertains to me(I comment hear and there about the politics, but not a lot). And as for you being right on all your arguments, good on ya, it's good to know that someone whose biggest contribution to the current global situation is a few posts on a SKYDIVING WEBSITE has been right in all his predictions. So where did I say my analysis was better than yours? The post you just quoted me on? All I was saying was that your arguments IMO hold little weight, whether they be right or wrong because you take no action(from what I have seen), whether that action be joining the military, running for congress, or travelling to Washington to meet with good ol' GW and say "I told ya so." And the post a page or so back where I originally mentioned you, actually I brought you into this for a reason completely unrelated to this topic. I have asked you countless times to not draw assumptions about me considering you have never met me, yet you continue to do so. So I decided to take an opportunity to draw you into this by making an assumption of my own which was completely false. Professor, I know you do not come on here and trash talk soldiers, or accuse us of being murderers, but I'm sure it kind of pisses you off when someone says you do, doesn't it. You know absolutely nothing about me outside of what I say on here, this forum is a very small part of my life, so how about you stop talking like you know me. I watch you do this to everyone in these forums, you also try and take shots at them hidden in your arguments, you don't hide them very well. One would think that between a professor and a soldier the soldier would be the one constantly talking to people in a negative manner letting his personal feeling get out and trash talking, yet at mentioned earlier around here I tend to be very respectful when talking to people. Yes I get very passionate about some of my arguments, but I keep them civilized, and I don't sit here and try to put myself on high. So once again I applaud your analysis of the current situation, but at least I am in some way taking action to make things better. You may not be cut out for the military but there are many other things you can do to contribute to the situation apart from talking down to people on an internet forum. People as educated as yourself could do so much to help this situation but you choose not to. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  12. So far the evidence indicates the cops were in the wrong. Quote You really crack me up, you preach assumption of innocence but sit there and point fingers after drawing a little bit of evidence from some news stories. I'm sorry if you have had a lot of negative dealings with law enforcement officials, but that shouldn't lead you to always look at them in such a demeaning manner. And maybe you wouldn't have a lot of negative dealings with the police if you wouldn't put yourself in situations where they are likely to show up, and maybe the dealings wouldn't have been negative if there had been a bit more effort on YOUR part to keep it from going that way. 13. Hmm lets see, science, a bunch of well educated people trying to prove things through testing research and fact. Religion, a bunch of people claiming an invisible omnispresent being magically created the universe although there is no proof such a being has ever or will ever exist. Whether scientist ever present a single fact or not the simple fact that they are trying to take steps to justify what they say holds a hell of a lot more weight than someone saying they know how it all started because they go to church and read the bible. But if you really must believe in a higher power check this out The Real God this is the true higher power. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 14. the cops were not defending themselvesQuote so only the use of a firearm justifies defense of oneself? Last time I checked a vehicle is a weapon too when used in the right manner. IMO anytime ANYONE who has been drinking gets behind the wheel of a car they have just turned that car into a weapon. Once again everyone looking to fry the cops before knowing all the facts, it's good to see the assumption of innocence extended to those who seek to protect and serve. 17. Kiri Stavros, the guy grew up hanging out in his fathers restraunt, he had access to all the soda and snacks he wanted there. Growing up he became incredibly fat, to the point of wondering how long he could live, I think he topped out around 425, at 5'11 that's BIG. He finally decided he wanted to live a healthy life and slowly started making changes to his diet and lifestyle, he didn't try and do it all at once as most people do and burn himself out, he udnerstood it would be a long road and worked at it in an efficient manner. He ended up getting down to 177, I saw pics the guy is in great shape, has an awesome diet now and runs 6 miles a day. this is what we need to see more of, people who understand that their weight is within THEIR control and do something about it, the biggest thing that impressed me about this guy is that he accepted that the situation was completely his fault, he led himself into it and he made the sole effort to get himself out. Nowadays someone would be more prone to sue Hostess for making the twinkies that they ate or it wouldn't surprise me one of these days if someone sued their parents for allowing them to get fat. I saw this guy in on of my fitness mags and i was really happy with the article. The reason I posted this in SC is because I'm getting ready to go off on one of my little tangents and I am sure it will spark a bit of controversy. If there is one thing I have no sympathy for it is people who complain about being overweight, or try and make excuses for it, "obeisity is a disease", BULLSHIT, being lazy irresponsible is a disease and you are infected with it if you say things like that. I fully understand that everyone is made a bit differently, we aren't all intended to have a six pack, but nothing in your genetics FORCES you to eat twinkies as far as I know, although science is discovering new and amazing things every day so who knows maybe next month we'll see the discovery of the twinkie gene. We all have to play the hand that life has dealt us, and if you were born with a slightly lower metabolism than your peers than you have to work with that. Don't blame it on your metabolism when you end up weighing 300 pounds and get winded opening the car door, blame it on the food you ate that your metabolism couldn't handle, or better yet blame it on YOURSELF for choosing to eat that food. Or how about people who go to a fast food joint order a double whopper and a large french fries and then top it off with a diet coke, yeah, you're a genius, or health guru I should say. and then these sorry souls end up suing the restraunt when they end up overweight, AND WIN. I understand there are people with medical conditions out there which make it incredibly difficult to maintain a low body weight, but it is not fully out of their control, again, play the hand life dealt you. Or just go with it and take the easy way out, we don't need quitters in this world so let your problem take care of you in a few years. I have seen people with problems such as these maintain an incredibly healthy lifestyle, it just took a bit of committment and hard work, and these people deserve a great deal of respect. There was a special on TV a while back about a guy who weighed in at over 1000 pounds, medical examiners report that this man had absolutely no medical condition whatsoever that would cause this, he just like to eat, and his body shut down, he spent the last few years of his life laying in a bed unable to talk because it was too much of a strain, brealy able to breath, but he managed to eat, his wife cooked TONS for him and he ate himself to death, he just layed in bed and pissed and shit himself and his wife cleaned it up and kept on feeding him, IMO this was a waste of space on this planet, that space could've been occupied by about 6 healthy bodies that could have contributed to society, the worst part was his wife seemed to expect people to feel sorry for this man. I'm just sick of people expecting us to feel sorry for their lack of self control, and expecting us to pay for it. Ok I'm done ranting now
  18. So you automatically assume a suspect is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, an admirable quality as a lot of the time it is easy to oh so quickly write a person off as a criminal simply because they are on the news in handcuffs. Something I gather from your posts though is that anytime there is a scuffle between a citizen and a law enforcement officer is that you like to assume that the officer created the problem, this implies that you assume guilt on the part of the officer. Do you see where i am going with this? History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  19. So now objective posts are the same as "x-file conspiracy theories?" If you disagree with my posts, you should attack the post. What "conspiracy theories" have I presented, specifically? Quote Hmm, it gets a bit annoying to have someone constantly interpret what you say the wrong way and draw false conclusions about the type of person you are doesn't it? I was merely making a point with that comment, in the last few days you have countless times pointed your finger at me for trying to crush peoples constitutional rights. Yet where have I ever said they had no right to make a comment, or that I would personally act in a violent manner towards them for having a certain opinion. I haven't, I have said that I don't personally put much weight in the comments of certain people(just because I personally don't does not mean that their statement has no validity), and I have countless times asked people who are incredibly outspoken about certain things when behind a keyboard to take their argument up directly with the person they are taking shots at. It's called being a man, and being fully ready to accept the consequences of your actions, is it right if someone beats you to a pulp for saying something they disagree with, no, is it possible that this could happen, yes, so why say something that would instigate this sort of action if you aren't ready to defend it whether it be with words or actions? And as for how my words are interpreted, I make a solid effort to ensure my posts are straightforward, I don't hide my opinion, I lay it out there on the line, and before I post something I read it a few times to ensure my point came out clearly, and also to ensure that I have calmed down a bit if I am responding to something that got me a little worked up(I know I am quite sensitive on certain subjects, and understand my temper, but I also know how to work around it). So if you read my posts wrong there could be a few reasons, maybe you have an opinion of me in your head and you read everything in a manner that fits your opinion of me, or possibly your reading comprehension needs a bit of improvement. From what I can see you are well educated so I am going to assume it is the first option. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  20. As pollyanna as your response is... the suspect took aim and fired and you think he should be treated like a jaywalker?! Yes he does deserve the protection of the courts... but if he's shooting at the cops, they respond. That doesnt make them judge, juror or ececutioner... that makes them responding to a lethal situation. I think you missed the mark with that analogy. Quote You have it all wrong, you aren't allowed to defend yourself if you are an officer of the law, you guys all got it wrong, the correct response was this. First, read him his rights(you may want to use a bullhorn as the firearm he is discharging at you is very loud), second, ensure he understands these rights by having him sign a form(but before he signs the form give him a breathalizer/sobriety test, urine test for drugs, and ask him if there is something in his personal life that would prevent him from fully understanding the form), third, wait for a lawyer to arrive on scene(you shouldn't have to worry at this point about getting shot as he most likely would have expended all ammunition in your direction and he should be waiting quietly for his lawyer), and finally, once the lawyer arrives on scene ask him if there is any medical treatment you could offer him(perhaps a bandaid for the blister he got on his trigger finger), ensure he is fealing fine and dandy as you send him on his merry way(which is a must or the lawyer will press charges against you for being a police officer in public and demand you pay for the wasted ammunition), and after this has all happen reprimand your teammates who are on the ground most likely dead in a pool of their own blood because surely amidst all the gunfire one of them raised their voice in order to be heard and this could have in some way traumatized the poor man shooting at them(don't forget to mention that they should be ashamed of themselves for getting in the way of that nice man's bullets). Oh, and don't forget to dock their pay for not offering to help pick up the bullet casings the INNOCENT shooter left behind so he could reload them and save a bit of money. Good grief, do I have to do all the thinking around here. Seriously though, by definition in the US the man is not a "criminal" until proven so in a court of law(I don't disagree with that), but at the moment when he opens fire on an officer of the law he has broken the law and until the immedeate threat is mitigated needs to be dealt with accordingly. And an officer returning fire doesn't make them judge, jury, and execuctioner, it makes them an officer of the law responding accordingly to the situation which has presented itself. On the original topic, I still need to take a close look at that video, but in all honesty is this world really going to miss a man who beats women? I'm sure there was a better way to deal with him but hey, I won't miss him. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

  22. www.tunnelcamp.com This lists all of their one on one camps, and I think www.airspeed.org is where you are going to find all of the 4 way camps, the 2 on 2 is on the first website I believe as well. Most of the stuff I have done with them though was scheduled directly with them. I think Todd is still doing their scheduling you can check on the AS website, drop him an email and tell him what you have in mind and he could probably either suggest a camp or maybe help you set something up. Everytime I have worked with them they have bent over backwards to take care of me, Kirk, Andy H., and Thomas stayed late into the night at the tunnel with me one time to flyafter a long day of 16 training jumps, and looking at Kirk during their debrief he seemed exhausted, but still showed up at the tunnel ready to put no less than %100 effort into my coaching. Andy D., Brian, and Andy H. again did the same after a long day of running a camp. I can't say enough positive things about how great they are to work with good luck, and keep us posted on what you end up booking, I'm curious. 23. Well, for anyone that doesn't remember that one-line 20-year-old movie quote, it does sound a lot like the recent John Kerry quote which slandered everyone in the U.S. military, inferring that they were stupid for being stuck in Iraq. Given that interpretation, I don't blame him for jumping to their defense. Quote I think I may have to disagree with you on that one, I appreciate the original posters candor in sticking up for those who serve, but I had to stretch the meaning quite a bit to relate it to Kerry's word in my mind. Of course I know the movie quite well so I guess it was easy to see the difference for me. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  24. You sure are down on free speech in the USQuote It was a figure of speech, in no way did I ever imply he has no right to say that, I just said that the comments of people playing armchair quaterback for an armed conflict hold little weight in my mind. I was just trying to explain that I would rather listen to the opinion of someone who has been there. You should take a step out of your little X-files conspiracy theory world where the government is always trying to keep you down and stop tyring to put words in my mouth, I have never tried to stop someone from saying what they please, you just twist what I say to fit your viewpoint of me. 25. I was trying to put it in the simplest form, I know there are many different scenarios but let's draw a quick one out, man runs into the middle of the street, draws a gun and fires on a cop who he chose at random.
