Classic Airborne / Jumping / Skydiving Songs anyone?
skybill replied to ZigZagMarquis's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Dear Zag, O-K,,, What you have here is the Air Trash 12 daze of jumping. Old it is and can usually be heard in the presence of Air Trash!! Ya' gotta learn it to become Air Trash along with the Air Trash Him!! So saunter out to the parking lot at Perris next time Air Trash is out there and have fun. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi Lady, Everyone pretty much nailed the tradition. On the subject, the late Nancy Doyal used to log all her kiss passes and for a hundred kiss passes she started the "Gold Lips" award. Even gave out numbers. I think she even had a little stamp shaped like lips. PS she 's the lady who kisses Norman's camera in "Freak Bros'" video. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Spark, Grim, really grim!! I'll miss the Bear. He was a good friend. Go to the "BLAST" from the past on the Air Trash site to the 20 yr. survivors reunion photo, Bear's in the back. How many others in the photo that you recognize are gone too?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi slug Yes I caught Bob Sprague too!!! Sometime in March of 1967. I was home on boot leave from the Navy before I was to go to Navy Riggers' "A" School at Lakehurst NJ. Bob was living up in the Chicago area at the time and it was snowing. My old DZ Bud Leon Riche invited Bob down to Louisiana as the weather was nice!! Got to jump with Bob a couple of times and me and some of the other guys enticed him to come on a RW load with us. I climbed out on the strut of the Howard DGA15P and as Bob left the door , I let go, reached over and grabbed on !! What a ride!! I looked straight up between my boots and the other guys were in a head down dive not making much progress!! That's my story and I didn't get a patch but that's OK, I STILL CAUGHT BOB SPRAGUE!!!!!!!! Hi weege, I don't know about chickens and rats but I remember a couple of guys at the DZ (they were students in the S/L program) remarking how they,"Didn't want a thing to do with all this holding hands in freefall with GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I think they were seriously Homophobic!!!! Like really, ever hear of "grippers??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi prsky, De claw, don't sdo it!! My wife aquired a nice cat (de clawed) from her son and daughter-in-law when they moved. Ubie was a nice cat but some neighbor hood dogs cornered her and killed her. She couldn't fight back and couldn't climb the tree, her means to safety!! Cats get out. If you want a pet with out claws get a goldfish. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Jimmy!! More than once at elsinore (old) and Perris back a few fifths of Jim Beam ago I'd be spotting outta' the "3"and some joker would pull up along side in a pitts, Mong or something. He's just along to watch us jump!! Good fun. Then one time some cat pulls up along side in a T-34 not long after takeoff at (old) Elsinore. (about the mid late 70's I think?) Anyway, next thing, Jeff "Banzi" Barbani jumps into action, sheds his gear and sticks his bare ass (Full Moon) out the door in this dude in the T-34's mug!!!!! Next thing you know the dude in the T-34 is upside down doing loop the loops and barrel rolls around us!!! What fun!!! Thank Big G that PC crap was still on the drawing board!!!! Hi Rays, Talk about dislodging brain cells I havn't used in years!! Yup I remember the shirt and wore it out years ago!! Somehow, I still have a good collection of old skydiving T's in my closet. Gave away a bunch when I left Ca. but still have plenty!! The Classics have to be the original "Sport Death" from the Gulch and the "Monty and Link Memorial Sport Death Skull Crest" from Ghouldge!! "That" one I still have in the archives!! Also, remember the SCR Scrambles shirts from Old Elsinore??? 1978 "Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer Chances!!" Or was it '77?? can one of you old-timers explain....
skybill replied to crotalus01's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi us01, So yer interested in "blast handles??" Yup, they got invented when airplanes got fast enough so that when you "bailed out" the wind "blast" blew your ripcord out of the pocket and made the next senario really interesting!! Some engineer at pioneer or some other aerospace company came up with the device and it was suppose to solve that problem. It got adopted by various skydiving rig makers and as said in other posts some people couldn't figure out to "PULL IT DOWN NOT SIDEWAYS!!!" That's why it's a "Wind"-Blast Handle!!" dummy!!!! Anyway I had a couple on different rigs, pulled them when I had to (several times) and because I knew how they worked, they worked fine for me!!> Still have one in the archives I think? Go look it up in yer Pointers Manual!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi Sky D!!, Consider yourself lucky! They could have just cut up your brand new Stiletto or Javelin Odyssey or something similar!!! OR?? You could be under the jail with no daylight being pipped in to you because they thought the AAD you bought was a nuclear device to blow up the Capital in D.C.!!!! ........Nobody, and I mean No red blooded, freefallin', American Skydiver ever accused the US Customs of being very intelligent when it comes to Skydiving gear!!!!!! Same goes for NTSB!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Anyone ever know what happened to Geno Johnson?
skybill replied to riggermick's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi Mick!!, Yeah, Geno went to Fla. from Perris. He left there and disapeared into the night. I do recall a few cases of beer ago reading a letter to Parachutist from him, it was posted from somewhere in Texas!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -

Hi Fish, Nitro is on it. POD s suppose to be an acronym for Para-Opener-Device!! Pioneer Parachutes, I think, first marketed them in the early 70's?? Anyway, they were copied and made in many variations!! I built MANY!!!! One thing about a POD is that the tighter the thing was, the more of a cannon shot you got on opening!! Basically you take a D-bag with a split up the middle with velcro and 2 lateral velcro cuts at the top. Abouta 1.5" dia hole reinforced withT/VIII webbing and 1"cotton tape for the crown lines, and there youhave it!! I made a bunch of 'em for jumpers at Otay (O-Die!!!) back when it was McDonald Land, Home of the Otay Bunch, and The San Diego Zoo 10-MAN Teams!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Steve1, Do Style, Why????? Think you can do a 4 second set?? If the early style freaks had their way, Relative work would never have become a competitive event. They tried, but there was more of us than there was of them. Besides, RW was more "FUN!!!!" Like someone said,"These daze, Style is looking good walking out to the airplane and Accuracy is making sure you get on the 'right' airplane!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi 12 Ga., Well dude, the real trick is not to "Legalize" but instead to "De-Criminalize" the good old killer weed!!!! I still have some buttons and stickers from the Calif. Marijuana Init. Prop.19 and everyone is still waiting!! Anybody remember hearing about Harry J. Anslinger ???? Then there was the "SHAZAM" Skydivers from old Elsinore circa the summer of 1968!! Father Goose and Ralph where are you??? No, I wasn't on the load as I was accross the great pond helping Uncle Sugar fight the Indo-Chinese War! Ah the good old daze of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club. Hi RRRob, What-the-hell-I've-been-my-Rigger-since-I-got-my-ticket-back-in-'71!!!!!!!!!! SO??????????????? If any of my customers want to forge my signature on their card, then go ahead. They can just as easily think up a 3 letter symbol and sign their own name and put FAA Pending on the card or sign the name of a rigger who is dead. One of our buds said he uses the "Cod-flicker's" symbol and number as he don't need it no more!!!!! Pack your own reserve anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
