Hi dan, One thing ya' gotta' take into consideration is that the "parachuting" in "Smokejumping" and also "Airborne Soldier" is a "delivery system to the 'job site!'" It's like riding the bus to "Work!!" What would you rather do, "Ride the Bus," or "Work??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hey Zinger!!, The Elsinore Loadstall was at the 'Stumbles of '75!! I was standin' at the old packin' tables when it went by the gas pumps (headin' from the lake to the hanger) with the brakes smokin!!! 'Have to dig into the archives but I have some photos of the jumpers bailing out of the plane and doin' a "Ground Star!!!" 'Engine blew at Vmc and thank the Eternal that it wasn't 3 seconds later!!! Looking for Humorous descriptions of Skydiver Types..
skybill replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
Hi toes, Saw an ad in the "Personals" a while back, "WANTED" A good woman who can cook, pack and repair parachutes, skydives and owns a Bar....'please enclose photo of Bar' Typical Skydiver I'd say, guy type anyway. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi Nat, No secret, it's time for a "Garage Sale!!!!" There's a very fine line between "Junk Store" and "Antique Collection!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi LW, Anybody got an old Cheech & Chong "Big Bambu" album with the big rolling paper in it?? Maybe not the biggest ever rolled but fun none the less!! Funny thing about "Mary Jane," seems like the more trouble she starts with the "Straights," the more popular she gets!!..."!!Comming into Los Angele-e-e-z,...bringing in a couple of.....!!!" So I have been talking to a few old timers.....
skybill replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi Long Way, Hahahahahahah!! So you want to jump a "Round???" First off, make sure it's "operational" and not some relic that will disentigrate on opening shock!!!! My last "Round" jump was 09SEP79 in front of manifest at Scare-us-valley on a 26' NAVCON with a Waters' 4-line release after my Viking Superlite encounterd structural failure!! Got a standup ldg. too!! Practice your PLF's really good as you ain't landin' no square!! Why do you think we all used to wear major ankle support jump boots and still got busted legs in the old daze!!!!!???? The major thing to consider is "Desent Rate!!" The less weight under canopy and the bigger the canopy the better!!!! Air temp/density will also play a major role!! Remember that back when, Rounds were all we had and as time went by thanks to good old yankee ingenuity we now have the marvelous air machines we jump today!!!!! So go jump a "Round" and experience the Thrill of Yesteryear!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi Mike, Funny you should mention that, Some guy with thousands of hrs flying all kinds of airplanes comes out to our model airplane flying site with the same attitude. We tried to tell him but he thought he had it wired. The plane got about 2 seconds of airtime before the thump. Flying an airplane from outside the cockpit is a lot different from flying from inside the cockpit!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi fizz, What!!??!! And give up a time honored tradition?? In the name of all those great "Aerial Gas Greats" those that are still alive and those who have departed, I say "NO WAY!!" Here's to the late Dirty Ed, Bear, Jimmy Crawford and Richard Haden just to name a few oh yeah and Randy "Stinky" (he's still alive) Green too!!! Used to be "GAS" was the only way to insure a fast small door Beech 18 exit!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Warpy, Why do you ask??? As far as "other people" are concerned, from the end of the spectrum where reside the "Latte' Lipping Liberals" they don't want you or anyone else for that matter to own, possess or even contemplate possession of "firearms!!" Why? Because they are scared sheep!! On the other end of the spectrum are all the "Gun people." who could probably care less if you want or want not to wrap your warpped paws around a Walther or a Weatherby!! The decision to own, operate, possess, like, dream about, fantasize about and or even think about GUNS is yours and yours alone. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi sky, For intro surfing, "Don't spend a lot of money!!" Like fool said, a long board is good, at least 9'6'' for starters. A wet suit top should be all he needs, especially in FLA!! I lived and surfed in San Diego back in the 70's when I got outa' the Navy and there the water was "COLD!!!" only saw the temp above 69*F water temp for 2 daze in late august each year!! in FLA ya got bath water warm and you shouldn't need a full suit. Learning how to ride a stand up surf board ain't the same as learning to skydive!!!! Your CG (center of gravity) is quite a ways above the board so keeping your balance is a lot of fun!! That's why knee boards are easier and belly boards are the easiest!! One thing I can say is surfing is a great workout!! Phisical, cardio the works!! Beats the gym!! BTW hit some yard sales and classified ads for deals, you don't need t pay top $$ for a good used board. Had an old Gordon and Smith 10'6" long board I literally "Gave away" to Bobby Smith for a six-pak of Dos Equis Dark Beer. He got "The Deal!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi JR, To your comment, Yea', an' people in hell want icewater, so what the hell else is new?? Besides her head up her wazeaux rantings I think it would be cheaper for our govt if she forewent her "Jet" to fly to and from CA and just used her broom!!!! BTW how fast can that thing get to 12-5?? maybe we can snivle some cheap jumps off of her!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Gup, Just up the coast at Oxnard is another cool airport restaurant (if it's still open, been a few year since I flew in there) and if it's still alive, Flows at Corona (I think). If you make it out east, there's Tom Wolf's "Aviators Grill and Pub" at Raeford NC. $1.50 beer on Wed. at 5 o'clock (It's got to be 5 o'clock somewhere!!!???) Then there was the "Hanger" at Reno Stead Field (although it was on the way outa' the airport it was a great hangout at the Reno Air Races!! Even got a demo into the place on Race Day after the races for burgers and beer (lots and free!!) compliments of the Hanger and Skydive Instead remember Clide?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

What makes a dropzone a good dropzone?
skybill replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Tuna, It's been said,"The People!" Without the people, all you have is a piece of dirt, a farmers field and/or a wind blown airport with a couple of airplanes rattling against their tiedowns in the wind........... SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi streak, Thx for bringing up "Cutaway" and to "zazz" for the screen grabs!!!! Great add on to my cup of coffee for a morning "Eye opener!!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Mr. Quade, Safety classes, licensing?? Who do you think you are, Bobby Rush from IL???? My dad taught me to shoot guns when I was 8 years old, we had gun safety and marksmanship when I was in the Boy Scouts, Boys of Woodcraft in the Woodman of the World, Civil Air Patrol and not to mention training in the proper handling of firearms and both high and low explosive ordnance when I was in the Navy!! Now at the ripe old age of 63 you say I'm going to have to take gun safety classes again to get a license???? Dude, the line is drawn in the sand and I ain't goin' to no stinkin classes!!! Got that!! If you want to come sit at my feet and take notes on gun safety feel free but I ain't givin' no lectures!! From the looks of things you been hangin out in CA too long, things are a bit different elsewhere, like here in NC!! Your fantasy Emerald City is a bit much. Your UTOPIA IS THE OPIATE OF YOUR LIBERAL MIND!!!!! BTW, you got to share what you been smokin' seems like good stuff Man!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

chest strap release under canopy
skybill replied to cucamber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi cu, To release or not to release, that is the ??? Keep yours hooked up or loosen it, it's up to you, risk or no risk! 'Been doin' it since the old round (5mph) canopy daze when we found that it allowed your canopy to spread a little more, catch more air and made for 2 or 3 fewer bruises when we landed!! 'Even used to unhook the left side of my chest mount reserve, hook my ripcord handle on the snap and swing it to the side so I could see where I was going. SOP in the old daze. Still undo the chest strap on my Mirage and have been thinking of doing the split slider mod on my slider to give my stiletto more spread. So there you have it. But just to give you a heads up on undoing your chest strap may save your life, back in the mid 80's at scare-us-valley one windy day, our otter pass got blown east to the corner of case rd. and the canal. I had my chest strap undone and my split slider on my Dragonfly undone and when I landed I was at least still on the DZ. By leaning forward with my chest strap un done I was at least able to stand up the landing without getting pulled over on my ass!! My toes touched, I turned 180* and burried a toggle to colapse my canopy only to see everyone else land on their butts and go for a sleigh ride!! One guy landed on the other side of Case rd. and his ride didn't fare too well, when the paramedics got to him, he was dead. Really Grim!! So there you have it. Skydivin' with all yer' straps wrapped, fish bowls on yer head, AAD's, AOD's (what we used to call AAD's), Skyhooks, hookknives (I do like those), Jesus cords, RSL,s and all the other gadgets strapped to yer carcass may come in handy but ain't no garauntee ya' won't get killed!! I believe it is my responsibility to teach my children how to use firearms for the same reasons I believe it is my responsibility to teach them how to drive, to teach them about safe sex, and to teach them many other things. They will live in a world where there are various things that they can use as tools, but which might injure them if mis-used. I want them to know how to use those things properly, to minimize the chance they will be hurt. Parenting isn't all about what's "more fun." Some of it is about teaching things that your children ought to know to live happier, safer, more productive lives. Hi Tom, "Hit the nail on the head why don'tya'!!!" I concur. Hi rad, You wonder why,"not one of them was stopped by a 'innocent member of the public' carrying their firearm?" Well, I don't know about Ireland but over here rapists, murderers and other villans are protected from us by their being able to sue us in court if we interfere with their "work in progress" no matter if it is against someone else or our personal selves!! Best let "The Only Ones" (the police, etc.) take care of it!! Just let the criminals do their work then let "The Only Ones" come in with their yellow tape, secure the scene and clean up the mess. Afterward, if the criminal is still alive and taken into custody, then they get a nice "Latte' Lipping Liberal Lawyer" to defend them and sue the victim for depriving them of their civil rights, the co$t of all this being borne by the taxpayer. All this creates jobs and economic growth. Sorry dude, the "Wild West" got tamed, Hillary, Nancy, Harry and Barry got the Sheriffs' Badges and all we get to do is pay taxe$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!! Got that!? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

So how do I convince my irrational wife to let me skydive?
skybill replied to Scythe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Scy, Well, as AD says,"You won't!!" Would you really be at the DZ with credit card in hand to sign up for the FJC "IF" you were "NOT" "Married with Children????" That is the $64.00 ???? The wife is "NOT" going to change her mind and statistics and rationalizing ain't gonna' help either! So, there ya' have it, the decision is yours. 'Kinda funny, I have a Skydiver friend whose wife won't let him go to "Hooters!!" He knew she was like that before they got married!! So, I guess it takes all kinds?? There it wasn't about pink panties but orange shortie shorts and tanktops!!! BTW, will your wife let you go to "Hooters??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
Hi quade, Thanks for the update. Havn't been to either place and either way, you can have em' both for a hand full of beads and/or a hill of beans. So, what are they going to do with all the prisoners if they sell the place, ship em' to 'getmo?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
