Go see meigs field. It's gonna get torn up soon and turned into a park. Dave

If the skyhook performs as well as predicted over the next few years, I'm guessing it'll end up being just as available as standard RSLs are now. But I definitely don't blame RWS for keeping it only on their rigs for the time being. My next rig will be a vector 3, partially because of the skyhook, partially because I like what I've seen from Bill Booth right here, and a little because it's a popular rig where I'm jumping now so hopefully finding a good rigger to pack it wont be difficult (unlike my reflex). Speaking of my reflex, anyone wanna buy it? Dave

UK -- Crimewatch to feature skydive murder -- Press Clips
pilotdave replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Video is now on skydivingmovies.com in the from_TV folder. Dave -
Oooh, does that big screen get the discovery channel? Nice plane. Reminds me a bit of the Grummans I'm flying now. What do those cruise at? Dave

You mean this one? edit: Damnit I was just informed she was white. Back to searching mannequin sites...

Skydiving is like sniffing glue... they both cause hypoxia, which can give you a feeling of euphoria. Hmmm...sniffing glue might be a great way to save money. Wonder if sniffinggluemovies.com would be popular... Dave

Aeronautical Decision Making -- an FAA guide to good judgment

No pretty pictures?? I can't read all that! I'm too busy looking for a stilleto 97 to jump when the winds are too strong for my PD150. Dave -
Yeah the company I worked for a couple summers ago blocked TONS of sites including every email site they could find. I did find one that worked, AOPA member email. I could check my school email account through that one too. That company wouldn't even let me use the company email accont to email outside of the company. Blocked FTP and telnet too. Where I work now isn't too restrictive. Can't view Fark.com. Haven't run into too many other problem sites though. I do know they monitor internet usage like hawks here though. With a few mouseclicks, an administrator could get a list of every website i've been to and every file i've downloaded... ever. I try to keep my internet usage to a minimum because I know they watch so carefully (and browsing the net all day is grounds for firing), but I'm a member of the internet generation and I need some internet on a daily basis.

Is it maybe just a couple people that want to do a tracking dive or something? They could get out a little farther from the DZ if they're leaving upwind of it on a downwind jumprun. Dave

You sound like you need to visit http://www.skydivingmovies.com. Sponsored by your local DZOs to make you want to come spend all your money. Just kidding. Tandem videos are in the /students/ directory. Dave

Wing loading is a measure of how much weight each square foot of canopy has to hold up. Materials/planform have nothing to do with it. Dave

I THINK that 2 seat ultralights can be flown solo by anyone. You'd need to be an instructor to fly it with 2 people on board. Not sure if they all meet the definition of an ultralight though. I'm not really sure what the FAA could do, other than fine the pilot (and you). I'm not sure if they have the power to confiscate an ultralight. My guess is they don't. Maybe they could keep the pilot from getting any ratings in the future... so find one that doesnt want to (or cant) become a pilot. Now I dunno why anyone would want to do this anyway. I'll stick with twin otters at 14,000 feet thank you very much.

Even if you do pass out, you might wake up before...well...before your cypres fires.

Any idea how they print on the shirts? Is it iron on type transfers? I've bought from http://www.zazzle.com. Quality is EXCELLENT. I don't know how they print on the shirts, but its not screen printing and its not iron ons. It looks more like an inkjet printer that prints right on the shirt or something. I've washed mine a bunch of times with no fading at all. The shirt is also really soft and good quality. Dave

Ultralights are covered by FAR part 103. Balloons are covered by part 91 just like any other aircraft (there's probably another section too, but they are certified and require a license to fly). Most powered parachutes are ultralights. Those that are not must be certified and require a license to fly. Jumping from a legal ultralight is ALWAYS illegal. Ultralights may never carry more than one person, unless it is being used for training. And no, you will never get the FAA to believe your skydive was a training flight. Dave

Can I have a free rig? Dave

Never used them and I don't actually know anything myself so maybe others can give more info, but anyway... I have heard that they can be problematic (or even dangerous) for inexperienced people to use. During RW, a reach with one arm could cause that side to catch more air than the other side, flipping you over, or at least causing you to sideslide the other way. Anybody agree with that? Dave

There are a couple videos of people trying things like that at skydivingmovies.com (too tired to find links right now). Felix Baumgartner (did i get that right without looking it up??) tried it with a wingsuit towed behind a B-25. The hardware holding him to the plane broke pretty quicly doing some minor damage to the plane. I THINK the other one is Joe Jennings doing it with a camera suit behind (or more like under) a 182. Not very spectacular. Dave

Cross keys makes every other DZ within hundreds of miles look tiny. I'd say go there, put allll your money in an account, get on a load, and jump! If you have any questions, ask manifest. I've been there a couple times and found that it's really not all that different from a smaller DZ except that there's a lot less waiting for loads. If you're too intimidated by the big planes and the landing area surrounded by woods (though pretty big), maybe you should make a few jumps at a smaller DZ first then go have fun at cross keys when you're more comfortable. But I don't think thats necessary. Dave

There's a company that does something like that with planes (6 or 8 T-6s that fly side by side). But all they have to do to generate smoke is to inject some oil into their exhausts. It would be a bit trickier for skydivers. Dave

I don't know what the deal is now, but I did my first jump at Ocean City, MD in 1998. They'd allow a 17 year old to jump with a notorized parent signature. May have changed since then though. Dave

I had thought that the old ones didn't have those but I can't find any pics either so I must be wrong. I flew on a C model once I think. Neat little plane No standup headroom though, especially near the tail. The D model has a higher ceiling so passengers can stand up straight. Edit: ok, i looked it up. They're called stabilons and they're on every model as best as i can tell. Dave

I think only the 1900D has the strakes. edit: eh, maybe not. shame they didn't design the thing right the first time so they didnt have to add all that crap. Dave

I can't remember if this is the same video or not, but I remember discussion before that it happened before AADs were required for students (he didn't have one). I'm guessing techniques have gotten better since then. And I could be wrong but it seems to me the main side did the right thing (assuming the student was supposed to have a working RSL). The reserve side let go early. Dave
