1. Got out my first log book and as I suspected, there was nothing written in it about landings. As I remember, we were encouraged to do a PLF as part of our training and were not encouraged to do a stand up. Although I remember that I did stand up a few of my T-10 landings during my 27 jumps on student status. I stood up my first reserve landing on my 37th jump though. That was using a 26ft Pioneer Lo Po. Very nice little round reserve. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 2. I'm not really that old of a fart but the first thing that comes to mind regarding night tandems is the loss of a very expensive main canopy if it is cut away. Also, landings are not usually on your feet when jumping tandem. Night dives are for experienced jumpers, so unless the passenger is licensed for night dives it would be against the BSRs. I doubt if any USPA DZ would ever allow it. But as you say, things change over time. Next? Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 3. You got it! Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
4. I must agree! I've known Jerry since I got into the sport in 82 and he is the kind of guy who jumps for the fun and the comaradery of it all. We made him Air Trash about 5 years ago! Check out the pic... Of course we dubbed in the cap but he IS Air Trash... I need to get a recent picture of him in his cap. http://www.airtrash.com/photos/jertrash1.jpg Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 5. Can't wait to see ya Sandy! We will drink to the good ol days... Drink chugalug... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
6. I'm with you on that one. Two malfunctions from pro packers and one from a newbie packer and I'm done with them. One of the mals was a high speed and those are scary. It's also very hard to find your main on the ground when it's still in the bag. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
7. Yep.... Yep.... and Yep.... I guess there will always be change and with that comes evolution and progress. The only thing I really miss is landing on the grass. That's getting more and more dangerous to do with people streaking by at 50mph downwind. The other thing that bothers me is when the first guy down sets the landing pattern for downwind landings. That's just wrong. I think the swoopers need their own landing area. But then again, we, the belly flyers are now the minority and nobody is going to build us our own landing area. So I guess we suck.... Pat Works? LOL! I thought he only jumped at Ol' Farts meet... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 8. OK well all I have right now is a little handheld Alinco DJ-191. I'm going to use it for hang gliding retrieval and the local repeater sorta sucks here in Elsinore. There's another one that pretty much covers all of So Cal on 146.980 and I need to get in touch with those people to get the PL info. I won't be on 440 untill I can get a multimode base unit. The main reason I got the license was so I can use repeaters when I'm out mine exploring in the deserts and mountains. I like the idea of having the extra communication in case of an emergency. It is also a good thing to have for cross country flying. But I wouldn't mind having more capabilities also... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? 9. I was just sitting over at the Bombshelter watching a whole plane load of jumpers land downwind in about 10mph of wind and started thinking about how the sport has changed. We used to jump belly to earth, open under larger parachutes with a proper wing loading and land into the wind trying for a no step landing. Now it seems most people are jumping head down, open very small overloaded parachutes and land downwind using up about 50 yards of landing area and still having to run it out. We used to get killed by not opening a parachute or failing to do emergency procedures in time. Now it seems we kill ourselves by opening a parachute and then pointing it straight at the ground. It's no wonder all I want to do at the DZ anymore is drink. The sport seems to have gone stupid. Is it all in my mind? Am I getting too old for this sport? Should I just take up bowling? What next? Landing without a parachute? Hey! It's been done. Not successfully, but it's been done. However it seems that someone is going to actually attempt it. If he makes it out alive, I say he owes a case of beer.... If not, we can piss in his crater. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 10. Just got my Technician license today. Call sign is KG6ZFI... Any other hams out there? Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
11. >>I'm a woman and I've had my cap since Perry Armstrong gave it to me 13 years ago.
12. I'm taking up hang gliding again. Skydiving is just getting too expensive to do on a regular basis. Hang gliding only costs the money it takes to get up the hill... Let's see here... $2 in gas to get up the hill, divided by 4 pilots in the car, multiplied by 4 hours in the air.... Hmmmm... Verne! You're gonna save twenty thousand dollars on a fifteen hundred dollar glider! I don't know how them boys stay in business... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? 13. The closer you get, the slower I go... The more you flash your lights, the slower I go. Don't make me slam on my breaks. You won't like what you eat. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."

HAM Radio

I just passed the element 2 test this weekend. Now awaiting my call sign! I have an Alinco DJ-191 to use with my Hang Glider for communication with the chase vehicle. Almost everyone in Hang Gliding is a licensed Tech just for this reason. I'll be looking for a mobile radio for my van now. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? 15. Won't be too many of these on this thread. Here's a photo of my heart attack... The left decending artery is clogged. The second photo is of the same artery after a stent has been placed in there. You can see the diference in blood flow. This is what happens to you if you smoke. I don't smoke anymore. Oh! And yes, I'm still skydiving... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
16. You won't see much of a difference between those two altitudes. Landings at lower altitudes are easier than higher ones. The air is fatter lower but between 1400 and 0 it is not really that noticeabel... Now if you go to Skydive Tahoe you'll probably carve a nice ditch into the ground.... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
17. Harry, ya know I lost that film when my place burned down. Don't know if I can get another copy but I sure would like to. I wonder if anyone sells video copies of Mystery Science Theater... Think I'll run a search. UPDATE! I found it! It's on a collection DVD including 3 other movies... Here's the description... "Collection Volume 1 is a four DVD boxed set containing four of the top fan-requested episodes: Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, The Creeping Terror, and The Skydivers. Includes the four films with and without MST commentary, plus original theatrical trailers for Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, and The Skydivers. " I'm going to order it for $59. Here's the link... It's at the bottom of the page, Volume #1... http://www.rhino.com/mst3k/index.lasso Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 20. My single most dangerous jump is always the next one... Look who I jump with! :p Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
21. Hope that wasn't your first water jump too... LOL! Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
22. Got pictures of your first static line jump? Here's mine... Photo taken by Tom Sanders in 1982 out of EPC's DC-3 (915). John Campbel was my instructor and that's his arm turning me into the wind. Notice the proximity of the lake to the east west runway... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
23. My attempt at recurrency to get back into the sport... What ever you do, never quit skydiving. It's dangerous and expensive to quit... I came to Elsinore to my old friend Jim Wallace to get current after a 5 year layoff. He made me use student gear which had an FXC on it. I had never jumped with an AAD before this. Well I did fine on the dive untilll it was time to track away and in doing so I noticed we were kinda high so I took it down a little farther before dumping. OOOPS... forgot about the AAD. There I was with 2 canopies out. I landed them both with a good downwind PLF in no wind. But I had to do the whole jump over again and pay for the whole thing over again on top of a reserve repack and an FXC recharge... That was a very expensive day. 24. Got a reserve to go with it? Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
