  1. OK, I'll admit that I'm far from being the most computer literate person in the world, but I am trying very hard to educate myself and do what I can to protect my computer. I don't generally click on links or accept "free downloads" BUT I find I get crap just by using the Yahoo search function or even visiting some sites without clicking on any links. This spyware crap is pervasive and its just getting worse, IMO. If you're only contribution to this thread is to remind the rest of us how IGNORANT and stupid we are and how superior you are, maybe you should just stay out of it! BTW- your attitude is exactly what is wrong with about 90% of the IT people I've worked with over the past 15 years or so.
  2. Spyware sucks! Seems like I have to clean my computer almost every time I boot up these days! And Norton is really pissing me off because they find the stuff, identify it as a "threat", but won't remove it! So then its another 45 minutes or more running spysweeper! (Which actually seems to do a really good job, but the crap keeps finding a way in anyway!)
  3. I doubt its the same, though. I saw it once in the suburbs, and it wasn't even close to the experience at the Biograph in Chicago. That's also the first place I ever got a "pat down" from security before I was allowed in! Ahhh, memories!

    Beer Criteria

Just get used to buying beer until you can sucker another newbie into doing it!
  5. No one can possibly "get" Rocky Horror by renting it! Its not just a movie, its an experience! Only a true timewarp could do the trick. For all you children who missed out, I'm sorry for you! Gawd I feel really old now!
  6. Hams are simple. All you need to do is warm them up, maybe usethe glaze packet that comes with. Costco sells a nice one, actually, probably cheaper then the "Honey Baked Hams". Add some heat and serve rolls, a couple of sides, you're done!
  7. I think you're right on the money. Fresh white meat from the suburbs with a dash of celebrity...a fine dish indeed and best when served up scared. One can easily imagine his paisley face when he's confronted with his first water moccasin. ummmm- doubtful. He'll be on Death Row and pretty well protected from most of the other inmates who would harm him. I heard last night that the average "stay" on Death Row in California (before execution) is about 16 years.
  8. My nephews go to Blockbuster for the games, not the movies. They can try them out before they buy them.
  9. I was going to say the same thing about Mexico. I use mostly ATMs there, for the convenience and the exchange rate. I stopped taking travellers' checks after my second trip when I realized how much easier the ATMs were. (Of course I'm only there for a week at a time, so obviously we're not talknig about nearly as much money!) The only thing to worry about is that here in the US most of the ATMS charge a fee, and if her bank charges a fee to use an outside ATM she could pay as much as $5.00 per withdrawal! That sucks! A wire transfer to your account would probably involve a one time fee on her side and yours ($10.00 to $25.00 for the sending and receiving banks) but then, how is she going to get her money out of your account? At least if she uses the ATM, she'll be in control of her own money.
  10. Hey I hear you, but I also know I've been guilty of coming in to work when I shouldn't. I literally have to be half dead before I call in sick! Unless the cough and runny nose are accompanied by a high fever, I'll be at my desk! If I take off, either my work doesn't get done, or one of my co-workers gets hosed with extra work when they're already seriously overloaded!
  11. Nice! However, I feel I must let everyone know that Renee has really lovely eyes that do NOT glow satanically, even AFTER a bottle of Don!
  12. I'm just hoping it isn't a repeat of last year! 7 people died in that fire and near as I can tell, the city hasn't done much to enforce the requirement for buildings to practice their emergency procedures.
  13. Well, I'm working late and there's a huge high rise fire about a block and a half away. The fire trucks and news crews are in front of my building! Hopefully, the fire started late enough that there weren't many people there, and they all got out!
  14. I always enjoy it when the Packers get their butts kicked!
  15. Hey, he tried to leave it the way it was, but no one would kiss him down there!
  16. You've got to give kudos to Chef Tim and crew for the fantastic food! If you weren't there, you missed out! And of course to Jeanne Nelson for organizing the event and Jeanne and Tye Dye Lisa plus friends for the amazing job they did decorating the auditorium. I think its the third of fourth year they've had the party there instead of a hotel or restaurant and it just keeps getting better!
  17. Someone needs to send those photos to Gordo and all the other holiday haters out there!
  18. What did the banana say to the vibrator? I don't know why you're shaking! She's going to EAT me!
  19. If I take just one of my cats to the vet, when I come back, the other 2 will hiss at the one that was at the vet. Its the smell and stuff. Your kitty sounds awesome, I'm glad you kept her.
  20. I think your sons are right, but what can you do? I LOVE my computer, I've become very dependent on it and I'm not happy when I can't use it! (And of course I'm on the wrong side of 30 and was never taught this stuff in school, so I have to learn as I go along!) One of my friends suggested I call one of those services that makes housecalls and I told her I couldn't bear the thought of some kid my nephew's age fixing my computer all the while rolling his eyes, and making fun of how lame I was!
  21. I agree. I have no problem paying for it now that I know it works. Maybe since they actually get paid for this, they have more/ better resources to stay on top of all this crap. (Of course I paid for Norton too, but I guess they specialize in viruses, not spyware......) In principle, I HATE that I have to pay for software to protect my computer from crap that shouldn't be out there to begin with, but then again, I don't like to paying into social security that probably won't be around when I need it either! Guess its all a part of life! ......sigh.....
  22. I opted for the 30 day free trial- I wasn't going to pay unless it worked! Its $29.95 but IF you do a google search you can find it for $19.95. I found it on there at that price. It found and eliminated way more than Norton and Spybot did and got my computer functioning again!
