I've been grounded. At Citrusdal, in about 1989. I thought that dumb DZO was an idiot. I was in complete control. (Yeah, right!) I've also grounded a few people. I have no doubt that they thought the same of me as I did of the person who grounded me. I've gone hard line, and grounded someone PLUS let all the neighboring DZ's know. He ended up leaving the country and jumping in the US. We've since resolved those differences and he's back at the DZ doing a good job coaching FS. When I ground someone I'm saying a) There is consequence to your actions even if the ground doesn't get you. Others take note. b) I'm sending what I think is an incident waiting to happen off my DZ. I've done my share of walking 50 yards around a fatal looking for bits of meat before the ants and the birds get them. If others want to prevent that - they can do it their way. t It's the year of the Pig.

CRW gear got pretty close to that too, you know. Cutting down drag for big Bi Di's and making it easier to slide that stuff off your body when you're the Wrapee.. Fortunatly, I have good legs having been a competitive cyclist in my youth. Even more fortunatly, I stopped wearing tights before cameras were a common sight on the DZ.. Really? What about how you fly your landing pattern, how hard you dock on a formation, whether you stop at red lights or stay on your side of the road? We are all inter dependant. t It's the year of the Pig.

I had a look at the Sugar Glider this past weekend - and was offered a flight on it. I declined. Dispite my 4500+ skydives, and over 100 Wingsuit jumps, I looked at the point my rig would go - and felt it wouls be buried in the middle of a Tennis court I'd be wearing. Maybe it was the colours, but that suit is intimidating... If ever there was a need for a suit mounted PC - That's it. t It's the year of the Pig.

I did too, for many years. Something about being at the DZ at 04h00 and having done 8 jumps by 09h00 before starting your normal day of AFF, Tandem, etc. Of course, there were the down sides... Like a team member prone to singing one line from a song like "Why does God make things like Tornadoes?" by the Crash Test Dummies - every 5 seconds on the climb to altitude in a C-182... but at least I'd get the chance to try and kill him on the way down! Ahh. And those landings... the adoring applause when you managed to stand them up... CRW is cool. I still bump end cells with my AFF partner after the student pulls. I still wear gloves on every dive, and carry knives, and it's helped me so many times when the traffic on final is heavy. It's never heavier than a stack or plane! t It's the year of the Pig.

You're right. I missed out swooping. The reason for this is that it's so subjective. I see people yahooing and whooping for swoops that would cause me to simply go home and slit my wrists if I swooped like that, and I'm sure those on the PST feel the same way about me. Yes! What you used to do, and what you do now. I don't do freestyle, Skysurf, Camera or Tandem anymore, but I voted for them. t It's the year of the Pig.

A recent thread asked "What's cool?" Some people said "People who do everything are cool!" Others felt these were "Jack of all trades and masters of none." When I started skydiving, there was RW, (Formation skydiving) CRW, (Canopy Formation) and the old farts were doing Style and Accuracy. (Loopers) Instructors were Static Line. AFF came later. Then came Freeflying(Poncy dance stuff in tights) and later skysurfing (Death on a stick - wearing tights) Camera people started to fly into things and hook stuff accidently on their heads and die... And then Swooping... with 911 divot replacement. Then freeflying came... and with people on their heads... Speed Skydiving.... and with people going fast, came those who wanted slow... so... Birdman - or wingsuits if you prefer.. So what have you done? What do you do? Vote on those. Please don't vote on what you want to do - cos we all want to do it all. Me? I did Static Line, then FS, got into a 4 way competition team till about 1000 dives, got AFF and Tandem ratings, competed at the world meet in canopy formation, got enough pics doing freestyle and skysurfing to be embarrased about them today, did a couple of 100 camera dives, mainly for AFF, Tandem and 4 way, started to freefly, got into Birdman and have been swooping since my 5 cell Swift 177 was new gear. And there are current threads on this site where people are saying they'll jump even if they KNOW they're going in on their next dive. Call Dr Phil. We need his view on this. t It's the year of the Pig.

If you feel like stopping, then stop. This sport is way too expensive and dangerous to do if it's not what you really, really want. It's only skydiving. t It's the year of the Pig.
