We have several Turbine DC-3's here which come out to play at boogies. Last one was 20 miles from here over Easter. I took the weekend off. t It's the year of the Pig.

Last hope rope? We called that a "Chicken string" here. When I bought my 1st rig, I went on a Jumpmasters course and they mentioned 15 things which had killed people. My rig still had 5 of them at the time... t It's the year of the Pig.

I've said Ouch. I've looked at my shoe under my chin before I saw my foot was still in it.... The ground isn't fast, but it's patient, fair and very hard. It cares not a jot for your reputation and its a limit that will not be pushed. t It's the year of the Pig.

I go with Spandex and replace every second reserve repack. (6 month Cycle) This costs around R250, or about $30. I do 400 dives a year, or about 7 cents a dive. I don't think the cost is much of an issue. t It's the year of the Pig.

You will learn much faster on a faster canopy. You will also learn what not to do much faster on a faster canopy. You may learn a lot about what orthopaedic surgeons like on their sandwiches from a faster canopy, as well as what a K nail is. Or you may learn more about the afterlife from a faster canopy. Why does it always have to be about faster? Would you want to live in a house built in a week? Or a 2 day old bottle of wine? Or operated on by a surgeon who learn his trade in 6 months? If you want to learn faster, find a mentor and jump more. Much more than your profile says you do. Fuck. I'm so tired of saying "I fucking told you so. Now stop rolling. Stop rolling! I am not everyone. I said I had had one with a hard handle and changed to a soft handle after that. I've not had an accidental reserve deployment since then. Some people are putting apocalyptic views out there when you're injured and on the edge of consiousness. If you're that fucked, or think you may be - get a Cypres. t It's the year of the Pig.

I'm not picky. I don't pack. I think packing is over rated, but I love my rigger. He's saved my life a dozen times and I'm grateful. I read the warning lable. Parachutes don't work sometimes. That's cool. t It's the year of the Pig.

I did SL. It was all there was - and I thought round chutes were cool, especially the HIGH PERFORMANCE ones! I do AFF now, mainly because I was a SL student. AFF is so much cooler. t It's the year of the Pig.

Instructor Assisted Deployment vs Accelerated Freefall

No. IAD stands for Instructor Assisted Deployment, and has the JM holding the pilot chute during the student's exit. SL has variants. Pilot chute assist, where the SL pulls the pin and a spring loaded pilot chute launches. This is nice, unless the student is unstable and grabs/traps the pilot chute. They may die. Direct bag, where the SL is attached directly to the bag and the student falls away, thus deploying the chute. Safer, but interferes with body position a little. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Bad idea, for all the reasons already given, plus - it's not really experience, is it? It's a drill. Can you do it when you've been booted in the face and are having a violently spinning mal? That's what counts. It's easy. Practice the drills, do them when you need them - and the suspended harness is always there. t It's the year of the Pig.
