They might be referring to a S.O.S. system where the cut away and the reserve are on the same handle compared to the standard set up with a Cutaway and Reserve on separate handles.. If they are refusing to finish with your friend what do they do when their students get their A and then go buy "standard" gear??? I would imagine that they should be able to cross train but for your friend it might be easier to just go bang out the jumps somewhere else and then they are good and don't have to cross train for just a few jumps. Most likely they will have a rig with he standard set up after they get the A. Mind you cross training for an SOS is not that difficult and I am surprised the DZ is putting up a fuss about it. It might be astonishing but no matter how you slice it, but separate from that it is a simple matter of Physics. Your translating horizontal speed for lift and that lift generated is going to be dependent on the lift generating capability of the wings. IF a suit will go faster forward it has a better chance of generating more lift and thus approaching a 0 or a negative decent rate for a short period of time. It has to be short given the thrust is generated by gravity and unless we throw out the laws of physics completely..... well you get my point! The suit looked amazing and Jeff could generate huge amounts of forward speed with it along with a slow fall rate. A sustained vertical accent I do believe nor do I think is possible with no thrust. I would say to look for a GTI (usually the least expensive option) a Firebird (Basically an upgraded GTI) or a Phantom. Scott C. Edited to add: I think there was a Firebird in Spain noted on the classifieds recently.. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Valinda, Are you spouting off again about John, oh well I guess he is getting what he deserves, as he is "one of the really good guys" according to Terri.. I am hoping to get out there some of these Thursdays to play around as well as it is sometimes pretty fun with the new jumpers. I do have to say I hope the weather is good this weekend but it wont matter as much to me given I will be jumping in Lodi. The weather is forecast to be awesome there. I have heard these "rumors" before of a "Local" group that does tight stuff but... well... uummmmm I will be looking forward to seeing it next in person next weekend!! On the cosmetic side, on my infinity you cant tell I put them on when packed. To avoid the line issue I pack with the line up to the reserve container so what ever forward speed I have does not have to rotate the bag coming off my back, it just pull it out. Do I think I really needed it, well, not really I guess since I did lots of WS jumps on non-dynamic corner rigs but I figure that if you look at the situation and what it can create, it seemed that the benefits were acceptable to me and I don't have any issues... I went for a long time not wearing a helmet as I liked the wind in my hair! but have moved to an open face hard helmet now and am pretty happy with that. I have had some riser slaps that left my ear or side of head sore but nothing too bad nor worse then if the pax was not wearing a frap hat to cushion the top of his head to the bottom of mine. Daymnn John, Maybe from your house but staring out from downtown Seattle your looking at a wee bit more then an hour and change to get to Shelton. It can take over an hour to get to Snohomish from Seattle... I live on the other side of the sound and it takes me 1 hour and 15/20min to get to Shelton...
