Hi there, I would need to know the height of the front plate of a ftp (the maximum height a front mounted plate could have). So - if somebody has his ftp handy, I would be very happy if you could tell me.... thx, alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Anyone with a FF2 and a D-SLR flash setup?
ast4711 replied to goobersnuftda's topic in Photography and Video
it took a while to make the photo, but here it is. I "mounted" the flash with two velcro bands. First I was scared about loosing the flash, but it worked pretty well so far. The problem I see is that the flash is illuminating vertically and the cam take the pics horizontally.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
Hi, I just glanced thru my archive and found those two.... They were taken Feb. this year in Oberammergau, Germany - and yes, it was ab bit cold :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Anyone with a FF2 and a D-SLR flash setup?
ast4711 replied to goobersnuftda's topic in Photography and Video
Recently I added a flash to my FF2 but this is only a temporary solution, since I am waiting for my FTP. When I come home, I will take a picture of the setup, you can PM me for details. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
Hmm.... We are using this aircraft with the shown handles and the step since more than 10 years now and never had any of these issues. Not even with top mounted cameras. But you made me thinking.... As far as I can remember, all pics showing the rear camera floater never looked scary relating to the distance to the horizontal stabilisator. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Well we have a 206 soloy (not shure if U) with door behind wing and we have a foot-setp outside. I know that it needed to be certified by the time, but I could make the contact to one of our pilots who was involved in the design and certification for this mod to anyone interested. It is approved at least in Germany and I know that some other plane-operators copied this design. The footstep is completely removable and does not interfere with the normal cargo door when removed. We also have bars on the roof and a vertical one in front of the door. I did hundreds of videos from this plane and feel very comfortable with the step and the bars. (see attachment) Sorry, no better pic right now. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Perhaps not your problem, but there are situations when the sun is really low and behind you and when light comes thru the viewfinder and irritates the exposure sensor. It is best to cover the viewfinder in this case. Also, I am interested in best exposure settings in low light conditions (20D) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

I had one passenger who drunk a (one?) beer before the tandem once, after signing the waiver and sent him home. I think we have to be consequent there. Another TI told me that he had one long ago and he got so sick on canopy.... On the other hand, I got much of feedback from passengers, that state only treating them professional, taking enough time and demonstrate calmness made it comfortable for them to jump. I think this is much more important than rushing them down.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Stills (and videos) when sun is directly overhead of tandem
ast4711 replied to steveorino's topic in Photography and Video
yeah.... for some reason I only thought about stills.... I think there is not much you can do, other than to fly close or wait until the light is better, which is not possible sometimes... I remember that different cameras behave very different in this subject. Once I had a PC-3 with a HAMA 0.4 which produced the best results with sport mode. My current PC330 in sport produces vertical shadows and makes the video nearly useless. In Auto-mode it is much better, but far from the old PC3. I don`t think, that a light would help very much with the video, you would have to use a very bright (heavy) light. If you do stills, a good flash gives impressive results, and people will get over the not so perfect video easier... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -

a flash? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
Maybe a circular pol-filter would do. I have never tried it, but will do as soon as I get one. What I saw here looks promising: http://www.digitalkamera.de/Tip/10/80.htm (the third picture on the page). alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Thanks for all your opinions! Of course I know that the recommendations are very subjective, but it is interesting to know either. Are there any opinions regarding european manufacturers (PDF, Performance Variable, Next, etc.). I live in Germany and some of the US Manufacturers are not so common here. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

FrogNog, no, there is no Rig manufacturer that near... You are right. Saving money is not the first thing here. But if the second-best would be 1000 (just a number) less then it would matter. Of course, I know the differences are not that much.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

If you would consider buying a new harness, what would you choose in aspects of safety, quality and comfort (in this order)? First choice if money does not matter, second choice if you consider the value for the money. The rig would be for an expirenced skydiver with about 400 jumps, main would be something like spectre, sabre2 safire2 135-150 or something in that range. Your opinions are welcome... alex edited: And yes... I have read the other articles :-) -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

I guess you are referring to adobe premiere pro. I don`t know premiere elements, it may be different there. Place two Clips in the Timeline, one on Video1 and the second in Video2, so that they are placed on top of each other. Then select the Video2 clip (the one you want to appear smaller) in the timeline. Then go to the effects settings and scale it down. This is also where you can change the horizontal and vertical position of the clip. You are not limited here, just play and see :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

You maybe right, but I think, it may make a big difference how the plate is attached to the helmet. E.g. I use a manfrotto on a FF2 (carbon fibre). With the manfrotto you have to drill 2 holes in the helmet. If you place large washers inside the helmet it distributes the force much better than without washers. Honestly, I think it is impossible to tear out the plate out of my helmet. What puzzles me is the single screw that attaches the top plate to the camera... By the way: The top-mount on convetional helmet is not the perfect solution in my opinion. Too many snag points, less protection. A FTP is much better... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

I jumped a Safire 1 for about 400 jumps. Many of them with camera. (WL was about 1.38). Openings were consistently soft, perfect for video. I do not know how the flare compares to a sabre 150, but I rememberd that I was not too impressed by the flare capabilities of the safire... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

This year I invested in a TAMRAC cyberpack where I can put everything inside. Still-camera, objectives, video, laptop, tons of cables and adapters, tapes, whatever... This was one of the best investments ever, now all I need is where I search for first :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

Bonehead Flat Top Pro Just Arrived from Out West
ast4711 replied to efs4ever's topic in Photography and Video
yeah... know it can be done of course. But is the FTP really so much better that it is worth to handle with the increased size of the setup? I never tried one, so I am asking for opinions... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
Bonehead Flat Top Pro Just Arrived from Out West
ast4711 replied to efs4ever's topic in Photography and Video
Hey, that looks fine... I was also considering getting a FTP, but I fear that a setup like this is to tall in a small cessna aircraft...? Can you estimate how far the cam setup sticks out measuring from the top of your head? Currently I have a FF2 with sidemounted video and top mounted 20D and I think this by far not so tall..... Btw: I think, mounting the Video in front of the EOS will make it difficult to use a wider lens, like 10-22 which is much bigger and maybe the front of the Video will be in the picture when you completely zoom out on 10-22... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -

Hi, I monitor some (maybe 5) forums regualry. This would be a lot easier if there were a personalized view of some selected forums where you can see each forum and the new messages/followups on one page, mark them read or just click one subject to see the thread... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
3-ring flip-through on opening (Sigma tandem jump)
ast4711 replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have had this very often - nearly after every jump - on a Strong/SET400 Tandem. It happens on the ground, not during opening. I always correct this while packing and never saw a problem. The risers are new (less than 100 jumps). Do you really think they must be replaced? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de -
I use it and I like it. Great tool for viewing large numbers of pictures and a hell faster than windows builtin preview. If I want to do serious enhancements I use photoshop, but picasa is also good on this... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

I used this helmet for at least 500 video jumps (tandem, rw, freefly) and never had a problem with the tightener... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
