  1. Wow... first of all: Thank you very much for sharing your information about this - especially the experienced riggers! In a kind I am shocked....!!!!!! ...that packing errors are obviously "that common". I thought about getting a rigger license long before, but now this issue rised on my priority list - no doubt about it. Not that I do not trust my rigger, but I simply want to learn more .... What do you (experienced guys) think are the reasons for these issues? Shurely it´s not rocket-sience to get a reserve into a container. As a "normal jumper" I ask myself how it is possible that major errors in handling of a life saving device (this is not garden-chess or mini-golf) can occur at all. What would you give your rigger-students on the way to make shure they do not make all these errors again??? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  2. yeahh... I know the story :-( !!!! But I only want first-hand information, therefore I did not include an option for that.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  3. Just out of curiosity and because I saw a freaky video.... How common is it to notice errors in the reserve pack either on actual use of the reserve or when opening the pack for scheduled maintainance/repack?? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  4. Your statement qualifies you as beeing ignorant and sketchy. While what you said may be true for some it is definitely not true for others like me. The USA with 5% of the worldwide population consume about 40% of all resources and 25% of the commercial energy like oil etc. I personally have absolutely no problem if you pay the bill now... Hey, you have such a great country with many great people (and many not so great), but I think it is time for you to awake!!! I am not saying that in europe (especially germany) everything is going right - we are far from that, but in some aspects you are far behind the curve... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  5. PM me I will make the contact to a guy who owns an A2 and had some jumps on my brand new Icarus in the last couple of month. I think he likes both... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  6. When i orderd my Tandem-Jumpsuites from Rainbow the passenger suites came with a pocket on the left arm an guess what was already inside?? :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  7. Hmm... I never had linetwists on a tandem, so I can`t really speak about them. But somewhere I read that especially on icarus mains, because they open in full flight, it is easier getting out of linetwists by just making you (and the passenger) big on the side you want to turn to. I guess the theory behind is that the increased drag on that side will generate the momentum. And then there was a post here that stated you can untwist on an icarus tandem by using the toggles. opinions? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  8. See here: It works well but you need a slow opening canopy which does not suprise you! Problems I see: 1. Too much wight in the front, but with the flash attached like this the cams need to be that much to the front because otherwise I would see the flash in every picture. 2. Flash mounted vertically vs. still-cam mounted horizontally. But this f*** Flash can not be twisted in this position :-( 3. A little unflexible. I would like to have a setup where I could use 2 or 3 quick-release adaptors which could move all around the base-plate without tools required. Regarding protection: Every housing would make it difficult to access still/video/flash settings. I find it important to being able to reach every control if it is needed.... Again, it surprises me every time, but even in wet conditions I did not have problems alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  9. I mostly jump from 206 cargo door, sometimes otter, porter whatever. Started with Topmount a year ago. No protection for the camcorder (pc330/pc1000) and for the still-cam eos20 now eos40. Flash mounted on the front of ftp no protection either. I thought about protection, but no problems so far, just be aware of the sutff on your head and you will not hit it. Only concern is extremely wet conditions, i.e. rain or ice (which never occurs, because we do not jump in these conditions!!) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  10. Theoretically? Yes, no problem. Up to 20km should work.... Practically? No. You would have to adjust both antennas - hard to do in freefall. I`m thinking of live air2ground video for years, but everythime I looked after it turns out to be waaaay out of budget. I think, 802.11b/g/n is not a solution for that at all. WIMAX (802.16) could be the answer, but all products I am aware of are carrier-class (=expensive) right now :-( There are products used for Formula-1 racing etc. but these are professional products (=expensive too) used by broadcasters... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

    Micro sigma

I got the information from upt that 365 will only fit into standard sigma and went with this advice. After receiving the 365 finally just some weeks ago I did 3 packjobs and well... it is not that hard to pack (new standard sigma with brand new icarus 365). I think, it might be possible to squeeze the 365 in a smaller container but for me upt and icarus advice is more worth than a sligtly better looking container given the fact that I am not willing to go as small as 330. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  12. DSE, thanks for your opinion, I expected that. But do you know, I mean are there any wide angle lenses, specifically designed for those hd cams? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  13. Cool! What about color abbreviation( spelling?), vignetting and image quality at all? No issue?? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  14. I had that on my 1999 expert cypres 2 times in a row :-( On the first occurence the battery was just a little over 6 month old (with maybe 100-150 jumps on it). I got a replacement Battery for the rest of the estimated lifetime for free! It returned from the 8year inspection some weeks ago and I hope they did anything with the unit to avoid the problem in future! Next year I will know if it has improved.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  15. Hi, I post this in Instructors forum because I think most of the Handcam TI`s read here instead of the Video forum. Is anybody using HC5/HC7 for Tandem-Handcam? I would be interested in opinions especially since used PC1000 are very rare and you could get a new HC5 for less than a used PC1000. I have a PC330 (currently on my FTP) which I will sell eventually. Do you think PC330 is a better choice for handcam? What about wide angle lenses for HD cameras? Do for example Black Eye .25 work well with them? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  16. I made some attempts saving some bucks on batteries for still and video cameras, phones, computers, etc. in the past and every time they sucked for one reason or another and I went with the original batteries. Shure, the original batteries are much more expensive, but my experience has shown that they are worth the extra money.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de

    Wrist mount GPS

I can confirm this. Sometimes I use my Forerunner 301 and it is very useful if you need it... You could also use it to record your canopy descent and later view it in 3d with google earth. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  18. that may make sense.... -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  19. No, it`s just because the club and the owner of the aircraft did not agree to a pricing scheme... :-( I know it does not make much sense, but what should I say...? alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  20. Well.... Currently we take only 6 jumpers, but only for some weird kind of administrative issues - don`t ask me why! With 6 it is just a bit slower than our 206 turbine we ususally have. We notice the difference above FL120. My guess, it is not significantly slower below 120. I do not have any numbers, maybe I`ll time it someday... I remember the first load with 7 where all were surprised that it was not as slow as everybody expected it. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  21. exactly.... -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  22. Hi! here some pics of our door.... It looks that the frame inside the door was added and is non-standard, but you get the idea... -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  23. good point! This year we had three "incidents" where the first release somehow got dislocated during the exit. Only one Tandemmaster - he does handle checks in the door every time - noticed it on time and went down with the aircraft. The other two had an open main immediately after drouge throw because they did not check their handles. and thats the best point at all :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  24. In your case...? I would go with the most on your DZ go with, so that you can make as many tandems as possible - it`s just learning... At least for couple of 100 jumps, until you can make your own decision. I made maybe 400 jumps on strong in 3 years until we managed to buy our own brand new sigma. I am glad we did this and I am shure we made everything right... :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  25. We currently have a 207 with a very interesing construction :-) : The door consists of a wooden plate which some soft foam rubber on around the plate. The plate is a little larger than the door frame and we simply slide it forward to open it. I think, there is nothing permanent on the door frame and the wooden plate is held in place just by the air stream. Don`t know if something like this would work on a caravan with the bigger door also, but if you like I could take some pictures next sunday and you could give it a try.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
