  1. I've never done an intentional before. I was actually thinking of doing one soon though. Within the next 10-15 jumps. But I started with belly-mount T-10's, LOPO's & PC's, so I plan to go over my procedures for those before I attempt an sort of cut-away or transfer. Don't want to do it the stupid way if I can help it. PULL!! or DIE!!
  2. I think I've heard of a couple in Nevada? Or am I totally out to lunch? PULL!! or DIE!!
  3. Hey everyone! Quick question from a frustrated newb. I'm having trouble with my 2-way RW jumps for my 'A', and one of my instructors told me the quickest way to fix it, is with tunnel time. I've done a search and found no open wind tunnels in Ontario Canada. Anyone know where my closest tunnel might be? Thanks, Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
  4. Are you kidding man? You think jumping is frustrating??? I'd give you a week before you throw your new clubs into the pond, lol. Never give up! Blue ones! PULL!! or DIE!!
  5. Hey all. This is probably the goofiest thing in this thread, but when I first started, and I'd be on take-off, or climbing to altitude, I would sing kiddie songs under my breath. ie. 'row row row your boat' 'twinkle twinkle little star', so on and so forth. Don't hafta do it anymore, but it sure helped when I was just starting out. Cheers, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  6. Hi, I was pretty weirded out too, when I went to top floor and everyone else went out before me. I just wanted to work on some solo style stuff(right after my checkout jump) And I was kinda confused about logging my jump for that, since no one really saw it. The pilot can't really say squat, so I just got another licensed guy to do it, and hope he believed me. But I'm not at the point yet where I can BS my jump #'s or my skills and get away with it. So I wasn't worried. Cheers, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  7. Hi, Kill line. That's the line inside the bridle to cock the pilot chute, right? Blue ones, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  8. Well, considering that we're force-fed the consequences and the risks of jumping from Day 1 in the FJC, I think we've all had to make that personal choice. But it's easy when you believe nothing can happen to you. I fractured my spine on one of my early jumps. I was scared to death that I might never walk again as I was carried to the ambulance. But even after that incident, I missed the feeling because I couldn't get it anywhere else. I think another big part of it was conquering my fear after that jump. But I did jump again, and I'll never regret it. I guess some people may not feel that way, based on their experiences. But I wouldn't trade anything for the things I've learned from jumping. Blue Skies, Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
  9. Let's see. on my first 15 second delay, my jumpmaster counted 24 left-handed spins. On my solo checkout jump, I got a little over-zealous and whipped out the door about 60 seconds early and landed half a mile off the DZ. Between those two incidents, I became 'Chopper' and 'Super-spotter' I'm glad we all have stories like that, lol. Cheers, Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
  10. Thanks for the input everyone. I'm actually a little surprised. Because we see in movies all the time where someone swoops down and saves someone else by grabbing their harness, but I read on a physics website somewhere that that would be virtually impossible. It said the jumper hanging on would have to absorb over 300 pounds of force to hang on. But maybe that would be from Terminal? Thanks, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  11. Hi everyone, I've been jumping for 5 years now and I can't believe I don't know this. I hear about it all the time, but what the heck is a Mr. Bill? Anybody? Thanks, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  12. Hi all, I've got a bit of a melon-scratcher here. I asked my DZO this, and his answer was a little confusing. I was just wonder what people here had to say about it. Terminal velocity is 174fp/s right? And that takes 12 seconds, 1483 feet. My logbook chart says that above, 5000m, I think, the speed of terminal increases to 200fp/s. Does it still take 12 seconds to reach terminal at that altitude? Why? Thanks, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  13. On my 34th jump, I'd been jumping off and on for the last 2 years. Been 8 months since my last jump, cuz of work, did my retrain and all that jazz. 1st Load on Mother's Day. Apparently the winds were wonky. Some kind of upper-lower dogleg or something, I was told. Still up on radio in case I screw up, I was getting commands like 'head east more' 'now turn into the northwest' and as a student, that was pretty confusing. Came down behind a big barn and flared at about 20 feet. Landed on my heels and fell back on my butt. Compression fracture of the L2 and L3. 1st ambulance ride. I owed beer for that one, lol. But I was back almost a year later. PULL!! or DIE!!
  14. I definitely plan to have a tertiary belly-mounted reserve. That is what I used to jump, so a retrain on that equipment, with my custom gear, should be all I need to safely complete this jump. Along with posting any questions I have, on here, and working closely with my DZSA and the instructors at my DZ. Thanks again for all of ur suggestions.. PULL!! or DIE!!
  15. Can anyone tell me what a 'Skyhook' is?? I've only ever heard it mentioned on here. Is it a fancy or brand name for a hook knife or what?? Thanks in advance, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  16. I asked my DZO the same thing, when I posted here, and he said under the big student canopy I'll be jumping, no. Go for one and then the other. If I was chopping a faster, smaller canopy, he suggested a short lapse to allow me to get stable. But since I won't be, I don't have to worry about that. As for the reason I want to do this, I think it will greatly improve my confidence in my skills, and I will have a much better idea of how it will feel in a real emergency situation, and will help me stay calm and avoid brain-lock. Unfortunately, I don't believe I can jump a rig designed for intentional cut-aways, because I jump a custom rig, and customizing a cutaway rig for the sake of one jump would be a waste of money and time IMO, but thank you for the suggestion. Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  17. I talked to both my DZO and my DZSA about it, and I used to jump under a round chest-mounted reserve, so they were agreeable to it, as long as I retrained on it before the jump. Thanks again for ur input. Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  18. Hey all, I'm planning on doing an intentional cut-away sometime in the not-too-distant future, and like everyone here, I've been trained a certain way. I'm just wondering if there should be a 1 or 2 second pause, between the time you pull red, and the time you pull silver. I wouldn't normally think so, unless there is a mess of crap over your head. How worried should you be about pulling one right after the other, and fouling both canopies?? I'd like to have as much information as I can before I do this. BTW, I am not planning for this until I have at least 100 jumps, but it has been cleared in advance, given proper training, by my DZO. Thanks, and Blue Skies, Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
  19. I've always been given a pin check, until I was cleared for self-supervision, then I made sure to ask for them. But I was told by one of my instructors that no one should touch your equipment before they've at least been briefed on it. Since every rig/canopy is different, you should ask someone who knows your equipment to check it for you. [i.e.] how your bridle is routed, how your pin is seated, main and reserve, collapsible pilot chute, and a hundred other things I haven't thought of. The main reason I say this is because I jump a left-handed BOC, and that's bound to freak someone out, and tempt them to start messing with my gear, which could be bad. So I think you should arrange for a pin check ON THE GROUND, with someone who is familiar with your equipment. Blue Skies and be safe, Skydude. PULL!! or DIE!!
  20. Hey, thanks again for the info all. I went up last weekend to jump, and my DZO felt confident enough in my CC skills that he would check me out to fly his Sabre 170. I'm guessing the problem was that he realized the 170 wouldn't fit into the container for the 288, for some reason. I didn't ask why, and he said he wasn't willing to mod another container for a left BOC. I guess my only option now is to try on containers till I find one that fits? And will be able to hold anything I'd ever want to put in it?? Input anyone???? PULL!! or DIE!!
  21. Hey all. Another stupid newbie question. What's the difference between elliptical and non-elliptical canopies? I should know already, but a detailed explanation would be appreciated. Thanks, Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
  22. I would have no problem demo-ing canopies in the custom container I have now, but how difficult would it be for my rigger to keep switching canopies in and out of my container? I don't want to make him do more work than he has to. As for the cutaway, I've trained and tested for it with the regular system, besides, I pull it with both hands anyway. I just don't have the control over my right hand to comfortably pull a BOC. Thanks for the info all. Skydude PULL!! or DIE!!
