I used to fly United all the time. They just seem to be more and more bitter as the years go on. I was in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, flying to New Orleans. I showed up late for the plane, cause I thought it was scheduled for a half an hour later than it was. I went to their kiosk to check in, and it malfunctioned. It continued to malfunction a couple more times, then I asked for help. The lady finally came to help me, and then informed me that I missed the 45 minute cutoff for checking a bag. By the time she had taken the time to finish with the other customers and get to me, look up my reservation, etc. I had missed the cutoff by a couple of minutes. Anyway, she was a bitch. She called her supervisor, and he was a dick. They kept saying things like, "if you hadn't have shown up late, we wouldn't have this problem." Not to mention that by the time the supervisor showed up, it was too late to check me in for the flight even if I hadn't had bags. Anyway, shit happens...it was partly my fault...it's how people respond that makes good or bad customer service, and they responded poorly. That was one situation, and I saw people in San Francisco treat customers poorly, and again in Chicago. I had a problem with American giving me the wrong information, and again, the supervisor wasn't the friendliest. They turned around and gave me 8000 frequent flier miles for the trouble. The ackowledged the problem, appologized for their part of the issue, and made good. Anyway, as DiverDriver pointed out, United has made some poor decisions, and they expect the government to bail them out. I don't think that's right. I agree, we don't want to see them go, but at the same time, why is it our responsibility to keep them in business? How many companies have the ability to operate poorly and expect to be bailed out? I don't have all the answers to this issue, but they are just not my favorite airline. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

An extremely wrong thing to do. ---------------------- That's a pretty bold statement, considering that the person whose life was directly threatened is completely supportive and understanding of the decision. What were the other options? Both of them die? Is that better? It's not like he cut the rope at the first sign of adversity...From my understanding of the situation, he exhausted his options, and himself, and was about to die. What I find extremely wrong is that you could say something so judgemental about someone in such a horrible situation. What would you do? Kill yourself along with your friend? So, I spent yesterday sitting around and waiting for weather to clear at the DZ. Finally, it did, then came back in, then cleared, then came back in, etc. Did 8 tandems, though, and a fun jump. Middle of the day, work calls and says that I have to go to Kansas City. No making skydives and extra money for me today... So, we leave from San Francisco, and the pilot is kind enough to fly us right over the drop zone so that I can see exactly how clear and beautiful a day it is. Now at least I know what I'm missing while I sit in the airport... Gotta board my plane now. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

well, unfortunately, as much as we would like to see their heads put up on stakes, the longer that we drag this on and go back and forth, the more lives of our own men we are going to see taken in direct retalliation for our actions stemming from this issue. I, personally, don't care to see video of another person's head being sawed off, and really don't care to hear about it either. Someone is going to have to be the mature one in this 2nd grade level fight that costs needless lives. It's not going to be them, and we can sit and wait for it to happen and take our normal high horse approach to the issue and wait for them to break, but the longer we do, the larger and larger the memorial wall will grow. Hell, maybe we can just extend the wall that exists...change the name to the "um...what exactly did I die for again?" wall. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

When people believe in the death penalty, I have never understood why it is any different for mentally ill people. If it is an issue of vengeance, then ok, maybe we would want to spare someone because "yeah, it wasn't their fault". But if it's an issue of deterance or protection, etc., then what difference does it make what his/her issues are? You commit the crime, you pay the price...regardless of mental state. I have always had this one question, though...if someone kills another person, barring self defense and special circumstances, of course, am I wrong to think that they have some sort of mental illness?
