I would visit the cities if at all possible before committing to one or the other (or another...Shanghai, perhaps?)... Haven't been to Shenzen, but Guangzhou a couple of times, and it's nice enough...but nothing compared to Shanghai. And if you're looking to learn Mandarin, although most speak it in the South, it's more commonly spoken in the North. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

So I have always heard how expensive Tokyo is, as we probably all have. I am now sitting in my $140 a night hotel room (after tax), and just finished my Korean BBQ feast for $45, having had Sushi boat at lunch for $15. $60, and probably $20 of it was beer. This is the second time I have been here, and the first time was exactly the same. $5-8 for lunch (plus drink), and maybe $50-$60 for dinner. It was $200 for the room last time, but I was at the Hilton. What's so expensive? Seems like people who think it's incredibly expensive may just not look for deals (ie - always stay at the Hilton or Hyatt [which were +/- $300 this trip], eat steak, etc).
