  1. It was split open with two large horizontal cuts to enhance drainage, many cleanings per day while in an isolation ward, IV antibiotics, and some other things I'm not familiar with to deal staph infections. It was almost removed from what I understand.
  2. For all you barefoot and sandal wearing skydivers particularly the swoopers, here we have a toe nail injury that was ignored until a major infection moved in for the five-star meal. Yes, that glossy white thing is bone! Be careful out there!!
  3. The first step of denying someone of an activity or privilege is to license them.
  4. Well, ok, that may have been too strong. However, there are not unlimited funds to pay for the insurance industry's problems. For example, electricity prices would continue to rise if we just blindly paid the asking price until eventually the money would run out, and then demand would drop. It's a basic market principal. Unfortunately, our basic freedoms are now being held for ransom by the synergy of the insurance/tort industry, a beautifully crafted swindle! Back in the eighties when Mexico was over extended to Bank of America, a Mexican economist keenly observed that, "Bank of America cannot make Mexico go away, but Mexico can make Bank of America go away." A subsequent US taxpayer bailout of Bank of America saved the day.
  5. The Sabre2 has a larger recovery arc making it the better canopy for developing landing speed.
  6. So a USPA-PRO jumper contributed to the higher cost of demo insurance, and now you would like to foist these increased expenses on the general membership?
  7. Maybe you could be clearer about this since seven figures were involved.
  8. The insurance industry, which "price-fixes" in collusion, sustained major losses in the stock market, and they're simply passing along the costs of their poor investment decisions to their captive customers.
  9. The blue skies are home to more than a few souls who got a belly band or leg strap twisted when they put on their rig resulting in a pilot chute in tow, and they spent too much time waiting for a deployment. The loose main closing loop resulting a messy horse shoe malfunction has also added to these souls numbers. The BOC is the best it's going to get with a throw-out PC. BTW, I use a pull-out style PC, a positive no nonsense system.
  10. Deuce, I see you're from Antioch, CA. I used to jump there at Steven's Paraloft back in the seventies. Is there anything left of the airport out there on Lone Tree Way? -- RMS
  11. The husband who decides to surprise his wife is often very much surprised himself. --Voltaire
  12. You need a better life plan for yourself. The credit companies, who don't even know you, can see right through your situation. You need to become somebody other than "manual labor", and you do that by going to school. You already won the biological lottery by being born in the land of opportunity--don't squander it! It's your life, and if you don't develop it, you are sure to end up frustrated with yourself when you reflect in your later years.
  13. A properly fitted harness is all you really need. Adjusting the four-point junction an inch or two can yield dramatic results in comfort. However, since you are shopping in the used market, the hardware will probably help you to get a more comfortable fit from a harness that was built around someone else. From an economic position, you will probably pay more for a rig with hardware, but it will also have better resale value and faster turn-over as these "goodies" are currently in demand.
  14. The United States has "porch-monkeys" to spare who will get your tax dollars courtesy of well meaning but terribly naive socialists.
  15. Actually, you don't have to see it...hearing the impact and the crys, moans, call 911!, etc. is enough for most folks.
  16. As I recall, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) pertaining to parachute riggers doesn't enter into this nebulous area.
  17. I'm a firm believer in the representative system since historically many people tend to vote for what is good for themselves while ignoring the larger issues, so I sent in my proxy paperwork last time it was requested.
  18. I think it was last year on the east coast that a genius scientist type double front riser dived hitting the ground at roughly the same time as his canopy if I recall correctly. If anyone understood dynamics (acceleration) it would have been this unfortunate soul. However, years of education in the physical sciences didn't influence his judgment under a canopy. These hard landing incidents are nothing different than those dashing gentlemen with waxed mustaches stepping off the Eiffel Towel with "wings" lashed to their arms while the ladies in umbrella dresses waited below.
  19. The school administrators would just use the money for new offices in the hills where they could look down on everyone, or new cars to carry their obesity in comfort. Kids get ahead when their parents spend quality time with them. I know this from experience having two kids in the public school system where it is easy to spot the kids that get little attention at home. Unfortunately, they just fall further behind year after year despite an alphabet soup of costly acronym programs. Taxpayers should only have to pay for programs that produce quantifiable results.
  20. Just curious, how many decent weather weekends have there been at Kapowsin this Spring 2003? Has the season even started yet?
  21. I had my first one back in the late seventies, and I'm waiting on another one due any day now!
  22. The newer 182's are wider; sorry, but I can't recall the year that the change occurs.
  23. You don't have alzheimer's disease yet, Bill. Bill Booth said somewhere here in these groups that the wide bride was not enough to lift a loaded free bag through deployment, the result of many drop tests. I kind of liked the look of the dual pilot chute system myself, but it was never an option on the Racer, so I've never had one.
  24. What will you do for health insurance should you break your legs? How about keeping all of your teeth in good shape? You don't want the general public to be your benefactor do you? These and other questions are real life issues, so think it over carefully.
  25. Don't forget, school starts in September!
