Does it really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_static_line: The RSL at least in all the containers that I have owned have had that functionality. - Petri

I've seen several cameramen jumping booties. For example DeLand Majik (http://www.vigil.aero/files/images/gallery/DelandMajik7.jpg) but what do they know ;-) - Petri

AAD investigation after a fatality - partial?
realpet replied to skydiverek's topic in Gear and Rigging
Time to RTFM, this for example from Cypres User's Guide: CYPRES is not able to open your reserve. It is only intended to sever your reserve closing loop. -
Check the runaway on slide 38 on GoPro quality. http://www.skydivejkl.fi/turpaboogie/esitykset/kusti/Turpis2010.pdf - Petri

Nope. It is due to the lens itself. I have the same .55 and it is not through-zoomable (well maybe there is a more correct english term for it). You need to set up the focus manually from the settings to something like 3-4 feet (or 1 meter) and you should be a-ok. - Petri

Serious drogue entanglement with a cutaway?
realpet replied to mcGowan's topic in Photography and Video
Did something similar a couple of years back, C-206U exit, tandem slipped out during the exit count and I left late but not late enough. Tried to get myself to the same flight level but didn't manage it. Attached is (a bad, interlaced) video grab from the situation. Now also I know that if I miss the exit, I WILL wait and not try to get after the tandem as soon as possible. Got also a good proposal from another camera guy - when exiting, try to slide below the plane i.e. fly to side of the tandem flight line. - Petri -
Letter from the Head of the FAA (May Parachutist)
realpet replied to catfishhunter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I disagree. There's little point to separating landing areas if people are going to say "it's ok,". No, it's not ok. Of course, that doesn't mean that it's not GOING to happen, of course it is, people make mistakes. But it's definitely not ok and should be treated just as seriously as a knuckle head swooping in the regular pattern. So if it had been a (any) jumper after a reserve ride, would your opinion also in that case be 'treat seriously'? The reason I am asking is that yes I do agree that the separated landing areas for HP/non-HP should be respected but as long as flying the canopy is not powered flight, there can be several occasions in which the pilot can not (or does not have skills to) always be in a correct/agreed location in 3D-space and time. - Petri -
Ditto with Tony Suits camera jacket (A-wing). - Petri

Not that much in temperature. That's why my example was about lenght in which I tought the benefit of decimal system was more clear.

Extra accuracy is needed but it is too much :) ? One of the reasons I prefer SI/metric system (on top of the obvious one that the school system teaches it) is the decimal thingie. A couple of examples: 1 kilometer is 1000 meters, 1 meter = 100 cm = 1000 mm). 1 mile (wait - is it nautical, statute or survey one?) is 5280 feet (except the 1st one, see below). Presenting fractions over a kilometer is dead easy 1.35562 km equals to 1 kilometer, 355 meters and 62 centimeters 1 mile is 5280 feet unless it is the nautical one in which case it is one minute of arc of latitude along any meridian meaning that 1.34462 miles is either 1.34462 * 5280 feet or 1.34462 * 1852 meters (or 1.34462 * approximately 6,076 feet) Oil barrel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_barrel#Oil_barrel So on SI adding accuracy equals more or less to adding decimals. In Imperial hazzle accuracy equals to switching to another definition of measure that is split so some weird amount of partions ;-).

Sorry for late reply, pre-second time reading this thread. Last time I was in Australia (somewhere around 90's) the total conversion was not implemented. Car speeds kilometers per hour but person's heigh was still feet/inches. Don't know if they have grown to metric system nowadays... - Petri * * Coming from a country using the S/I system for almost everything except (for some weird reason) car tires and tv screen sizes (latter ones nowadays seen also at sizes of 18.5" etc)

Good point, maybe I'll switch them to tape or rubber band. - Petri

Not with the flatlock, it is too wide for dual mount. The width of CX105 itself is just tad more than half of the top plate width (camera ~55 mm, plate ~108 mm) so in theory it is possible. - Petri

Yes.

Bonehead Flattop Narrow, CX105, Hypeye, L&B Newton sight. - Hypeye control unit fitted neatly inside the left front corner of the camera platform. - By blind luck the Hypeye indicator led reflects a tiny blue/red spot just in the middle of the Newton sight aim point (does not show in the picture) - I haven't yet figured out a good way to secure the Hypeye cable to camera so I put a some tape on the camera platform and glued 2 very small clothespins to the tape. Idea is that when (some day) I'll be jumping with still-only I can hide the Hypeye cable - The black rod for Newton is plastic thus providing a breaking point in case of entaglement Still camera plan: I have an extra Cookie flatlock that I could install into the front plate of the helmet for easy mount/unmount. - Petri

Still camera selection (my brain is melting)
realpet replied to realpet's topic in Photography and Video
If (and most probably looks like it) I go with Canon, I willl also buy the stock 18-55 lens as the price difference on body-only and body+18-55 kit is €20 so I see no point not purchasing it :). - Petri -
Still camera selection (my brain is melting)

General and tandems and teams and etc ;-), also I'm going to use the camera outside jumping. Facebook is something that happens to other people. The budget is there around the price level of the 3 options listed above i.e. ~€1500-2000. What I'm mainly concerned at this moment is that is there some basic flaw in one of the setups above. -
Still camera selection (my brain is melting)
realpet replied to realpet's topic in Photography and Video
I've been considering still camera purchase for freefall photography and now I have narrowed the models to: - Canon 550D (Rebel T2i) & Canon EFS 10-22 lens - Sony SLT-A55V & Sigma 10-20 EX DC lens - Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 & Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14 lens Using highly scientic comparison methods (http://snapsort.com/compare & rest of the Internet) I have collected following values (Canon/Sony/Panasonic): Weight (with the lens above): 915/970/692 g Price (Euro, roundup to closest euro): 1480/1328/2030 Continuous shoot fps: 3.7/10/5 Shutter lag, full autofocus (seconds): 0,252/0,220/? Shutter lag, prefocused (seconds): 0,096/0,103/0,099 -
Stupid CX105/(CX100) video transfer question

Tested also with a friend's CX12, works for that one too. - Petri -
Too lazy to figure out how to link another chain from dropzone.com - check the discussion with title "New Sony NEX-5 & NEX-3 - Micro four-thirds camera". No wired shutter control :(.

If people are reporting close calls with small form factor cameras it does not count until someone dies? Sounds a bit like "I do not know anyone who died in car accident due not using a seatbelt so why should I use one."-mentality... Please do not play chicken with the reality - you will lose. - Petri

Stupid CX105/(CX100) video transfer question

Obnote - the steps will probably screw up the existing clip index on the memory card so use an empty one... - Petri
