I was one of many who landed out after a bad CASA spot. The only out I could find was next to the Police Station. They were pretty nice about it. They let me pack on their front lawn, and I gave them the name and vehicle description of the guy who spotted the load. It's all about the love. Shit happens. For those who don't know it, we lost a great one today. Ted Williams, a baseball player with the Boston Red Sox died at the age of 83. He was a gutsy player who, they say, lived for his next time at bat. He was the last player to hit .400 in the majors, and he did it with style. At the end of his career, he had 521 home runs. Not bad for any player, but quite a feat for one who took off three years to fly for the Marines during WW II, and another two years for the Korean Conflict. He flew 39 "combat" missions in Korea. They say he came back in one plane that was shot up so bad, it wouldn't fly again. That would be enough to rattle anyone, but he was back on the flightline the next day. Quite an American. I think Teddy Ballgame would have made a great skydiver. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Oops. Went to the DZ and talked to a PD test jumper and told him my plan to get it fixed, and he didn't jump up and down, so I went forward with it. It cost $30 including a $10 rush fee. The rigger sewed a patch, same color over it. Actually removed the channel the slider stow line goes through, sewed the patch, and resewed the channel. I can't believe they would be too mad, since they have had my parachute for approximately six weeks and the most recent report was, "We can't figure out why it is doing what it is doing." I may end up getting this thing relined before they figure it out. Mahalo for everyone's input. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Not throwing stones here, but a friend of mine went to the 4/20 Boogie at Deland to do some freeflying. I asked him how it was, and he mentioned something about "Attitudes". I guess some freeflyers do learn from the RW people. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

I have a demo which they are letting me have for an extended period. I have approximately 30 jumps on it and when I went to pack it today, I discovered the slider had a tear (aprox. 2.5 inches long, near one of the collapsing line channels, but not on or through it) in it. No idea how. Had a neck breaker on no. 2 last week, but I think I would have noticed the tear while packing for no. 3 or no. 4. Anyway, if I take it to a rigger, can he fix/patch the slider? Do I have to get a new slider? Since it's a demo, I gotta believe, cheaper is better, if it's a legit fix. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

I bought a Vengeance and found I could pull about 1/3 of the range of my arms before I got any movement. With my arms straight out, I got a good amount of flare and by bringing them down and fully extending them, I got enough flare to just about close it down (loaded at 1.6:1), even in no wind. When I sent it in to get "repaired" (don't ask), they sent me an equal size Stilleto on risers, i.e. factory settings. Riser pressure was lower than the V and no bucking. The toggles seem to take affect much higher. My full flair on the Stilletto seems to be just around the 50% stroke position. The funny thing is, if I add more toggle, nothing happens. I get no more lift, but the canopy doesn't stall, either. Have done it at altitude, and I cannot collapse the canopy even with full toggle deflection. Have not tried it while take a wrap. It's not that important to me. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

In my experience, most military aircraft don't have VHF receivers, only UHF. Most civilians use VHF and most military use UHF. Scariest thing in the world is flying into a closed airport at night with a CTAF and finding out there is a military plane there with you. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
