Joe, There are 212 ways to become an Army of one. I know, I saw it on TV. My advice to you is: 1) Pick one that you want. There is a Parachute Rigger MOS in the Army. You'll be paid to learn how to work on parachutes. Your station then could very well be, Ft Bragg, NC, near Raeford. 2) Don't plan on having a lot of free time at first. Basic Training and AIT will take a huge chunk out of a six month window. Then as the newest guy in the unit (the FNG), you will get some of the worst details. That will pass. 3) Work your butt off to get on the Golden Knights. Play by the rules and don't piss people off. They like gregarious, well-rounded, safe skydivers who are willing to learn. Be that guy. 4) Get it in writing. Don't let a recruiter screw with you. Make him put it in writing that your MOS will be the job you want, from the start. Don't settle. Also, be wary. Recruiters can make anything sound glamorous. A truck mechanic is a truck mechanic, no matter how hard they make it sound like it's a light vehicle logistics specialist with a concentrated effort toward mechanical and digital electronic diagnostics techniques. 5) Sign nothing on the first visit. They will want you just as bad next week as they do this week. You are not too old. Top age is 34 or 35, I believe. Also in the military, everything is waiverable. There are a bunch of pilots out there with glasses. flyhi

At 3:30 in the morning, a guy heads toward a stop sign and slows down. After checking both ways, he rolls on through. As luck would have it, a cop is sitting around the corner. He hits the lights and sirens and pulls the errant driver over. When he asks the driver what he did wrong, the driver said, "I didn't stop at the stop sign, but I slowed down." The cop pulled out his billy club and starts hitting the guy about the head and shoulders. "Ooww, what are you doing?" screams the driver. "Well", he said, "do you want me to stop, or do you want me to slow down?" flyhi

For BASE-gods in Florida, There is a relatively high bridge in JAX over the St John River. If you've ever been to JAX you know the one I am talking about. Does anyone know if it has been based yet? Looks highly doable. Better yet, survivable. flyhi

All right, Yugo jokes. Why does a Yugo have a rear window defroster? To keep your hands warm while you push. flyhi

And that would be what aspect? Size, texture, features, openness,... Chop it, dude, unless you like riding a bike and look good in a white shirt. But then again, don't JW's abhor drugs like caffeine? Isn't there a buttload of it in Mountain Dew? Maybe she's not so strict. flyhi

Underpants Fail to Mask Robber's Identity OSLO (Reuters) - A drunken Norwegian who pulled a pair of underpants over his face and robbed a post office was awakened by police two days later to find he had tipped them off about his identity. The 47-year-old drunk charged into the post office and handed over a note saying ``This is a robbery,'' the local newspaper Bergensavisen said on Friday. But his wife's name and personal details were on the back of the demand note, the newspaper said. The man told a court he did not remember the robbery, but admitted he had a suspicion of having been up to no good when he woke up and saw a picture of the be-knickered robber in the newspaper and found a large wad of money in his living room. flyhi

No matter what the reason, am I glad I am not trying to sell a used Crossfire? Yes. Would I buy a used Crossfire? No Would I buy a new Crossfire? No. Would I buy any Icarus Canopy? No, but if anyone wants to send me a free VX 99, yellow with purple cross-braces, I'll gladly take it. Maybe I'd pay the shipping too. flyhi

The Mason Dixon line separates MD and Pennsylvania. So if MD is on the wrong side, then being in the South must be wrong. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm flyhi

Has anyone else noticed we never had these problems before there were freeflyers? Let me highlight the similarities between illegal immigrant terrorists and freeflyers: bizarre facial hair, grossly mismatched clothes which are ill fitting at best, inability to speak the Queen's (or anyone else's) English ("gonna launch a flower to a double over under reverse" vs. "would you like to buy a pack six of the beer?"), appearing to be uncomfortable wearing shoes, an unnatural attraction to sheep, special diets, and the aroma of "strange herb" in the air whenever they are around. Waddayathink? flyhi

Heard the same thing happened to a C-130 in Alaska a few years back. The prop came off, danced down the fuselage and punched a few holes in it. Another reason to fly with a rig on. flyhi

Skybaby, couldn't agree with you more. Would like to pick up a couple of those things shown in your picture. Make those to go with nothing on them. Oh how naughty of me. I deserve a good spanking for that. Go ahead and throw that in. Now, what's the bottom line? Ooops, I've done it again. flyhi

Congrats. My main squeeze did a second tandem and the jumpmaster did a head-down exit. She was hooked. Unfortunately, she now wants to free fly vice do RW. But I think I can talk her out of that. Just FYI, I was told there was a minimum number of jumps you needed before being allowed to geek a tandem. A PD canopy pilot/tandem master told me it was 500. Quien sabe? flyhi

If you are feeling magnanimous (and if you are, tell her I said hi!), tell them you would like to see a copy of the Police report. Surely anyone who had a purse stolen would have one of those. If not, BOGUS!! flyhi
