  1. 0:3:3 I decided to start my week end on Friday, heading to Perris. BAD IDEA! - 0 jump: the weather in Perris on Friday looked like the sky in chernobyl in the mid 80's! - 3 mals: while waiting (to no avail) for the sun to peak out, I decided to practice my überpackingskills. Managed to pack 3 mals (at least 1 total) in 1 pack job! That's before I even got to closing the bag! - 3: the number of margaritas I bought myself the following day to celebrate the 3 mal pack job, as I was in Mexico City waiting for my connection to Acapulco... From now on, going straight to silver if jumping my own pack job... N. 2. Mr Rabbit and Mr Bear are taking a crap in the forest. Mr Bear asks: "Hey there, Rabbit, doesn't it bother you to have all that "s..." stuck on your hair when you take a crap?" "No, not really", answers Mr Rabbit. Then Mr Bear grabs Mr Rabbits and wipes his ass with him... N. 3. Pulp Fiction 37°2 le matin / Betty Blue Mr Hire Festen / The Celebration Full Metal Jacket And, of course, the toilet scene in Trainspotting... 4. Vibes. Just plain, good, truly heartfelt vibes. Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  5. Hell, I may still be up at 3AM PST!!! I wouldn't count on my ability to dial so many numbers in a sequence though Good Luck (and go to bed!), Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  6. Motion picture "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  7. Looking for someone who has/can shoot using a 35mm film camera while in freefall. Obviously not helmet mounted, but I know it has been done. Does anyone have any leads? Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  8. Congrats. See you in the blue California skies... Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  9. You guys are SO acting like old timers! I was going head down on my AFF level 1. And on the way up, the foot massage in first class (on the Dupper Otter at Perris Skydive and Spa) was soooooo relaxing... it was like walking on clouds... Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  10. I have seen videos of my first and second attempts at tracking (AFF 6 & 7): I look more loke a heat seeking Scud missile than anything else. Since then, I have practiced tracking on every single solo jump (90° to JR). And I'd like to think that not only I, but the people I have jumping with lately, are glad I did. Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  11. Solo jump last Saturday, last one out of the Otter, I gave about 10 seconds to a 3 way ahead of me. Out the door, doing my things, looking at the 3 way entering a nice puffy cloud. I tracked away from them for a couple thousand feet, since I couldn't see where they were anymore; looked down, the cloud is about 1,000 ft below me, and SO IS someone in a perfect boxman, in the cloud, straight below me. And I am catching up to him/her FAST. No time to do anything but bracing myself for terminal impact. I was REALLY bracing myself for the worst. Then I went right through my own shadow................ Dumb Ass! Made for a great rush though, and an even greater grin on my face when I exited the cloud! 12. OUUUUUUUCH! Painful just to look at it. Wonder if it helps landing in strong winds going backwards though... I hope the jumper is OK now (or as OK as can be under the circumstances) Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  13. Don't worry about it! It is certainly, as far as I am concerned, the best AFF jump. Nothing like a roller coaster, as there is nothing counteracting that little thing called gravity... Have fun up there. I can't help it myself... Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  14. Keep going. Much, much more fun to come
  15. Bird type suit that allows one to land without having to deploy a canopy... Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  16. I saw your photo that photo of your leg on a previous thread. It still looks like a pair of lips with a bad case of fever blisters... Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  17. Try http://www.skydivewings.com/ They may have photos of the containers in the colors you mentioned. Have you tried other containers? Smack me if I am out of place, but ordering a container after 15 jumps may be a little risky. Are you sure you'll still be happy with it after 200 jumps? 400? Make sure you purchase something that you won't find obsolete in 6 months when you know more about the sport. In any case, have fun jumping whatever it is you are jumping Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  18. Happened to me few years ago (not skydiving), and indeed, it seems there is very little you can do Hang in there! Cheers, Nick PS: isn't the plurial of ciel "cieux"? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  19. Congrats. You and I getting to A on the same weekend, that's a first: BEERS.... Cheers, Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  20. Beer time! I went for the power packed week end: Friday: packing course, first pack job, hop & pop at 4,500ft, second pack job, solo jump Saturday: solo jump, RW #3 & 4, check out dive Saturday evening: beer time at the bombshelter. PARTY ON! Next up: canopy control classes (it may save my butt some day), RW classes (too much fun to be had). I'll test gravity on my head and ass a little later. If anyone experienced in Perris is in need of an unexperienced partner for a 2 way, please drop me a line. I promise I'll make faces...
  21. You may be only one jump away. AFF Level 6 (unstable exit) is a huge confidence booster, which will probably allow you to relax more as you start trusting your abilities to be in control. My first solo dive also was a big step in the relaxing ladder. the 50 seconds of freefall felt like twice as long without having to look at someone making monkey signs at me! And "flying" on your own, landing safely... WOW. If you can't relax after that
  22. "cracked the rib on my left side that is right underneath my cutaway handle" I'd suggest resting it until the cutaway handle is able to make it back to your right side Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  23. 1/ Badmington is a good/safe option 2/ I'll race you to 30 3/ Move to SoCal / FLA 4/ Hang in there, it's worth it I am sure. Hell, better having riggers getting you frustrated with a reserve that may not be air worthy than... Fill in the blanks! "Better safe than forty" "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  24. phisheclover, who are you? ¿¿¿Profile??? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  25. True, jumping in high winds is not a good idea, especially for newbies. However, in some locations, in my case Perris, winds can pick up in a hurry (and/or change direction). Two weeks ago, I boarded the plane while winds were minimal, and landed without having to flare (still did when my feet touched the ground to help control the canopy), as I went pretty much vertical on the last 50 feet, straight into the wind. The pilot never said anything (he may not have been informed of the situation) while going up. But being the last one out before a fly over made for a nice straight line cross country ride into the wind! Time to learn how to flick that switch next to the door back and forth I guess "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
