  1. Tim, I have read the SIM. It actually has different deployement initiation altitude for Students and A license holders. I do pull at 4,000 ft with a hard deck of 2,500 ft. My post was in answer to the original question whether going straight to silver under 1,000 ft was the right thing to do. I would imagine the SIM does not recommend going that low without anything out Agree with everything you wrote. Thanks for the feedback. 2. With a main canopy that can snivel up to 800 ft, I have convinced myself that I should go for silver if still in freefall below 1500ft. Am I wrong? Feedback more than welcome (needed actually). 3. Definitely something to ponder on my next cross country canopy ride back from a bad spot. Especially the entanglement bit. Wonder if I'll be able to tell the reserve from the main on my first 2 out "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

    LIFE!

  6. Finally a thread with an interesting subject... What is a Kenigett BTW? And in this case, shouldn't it be Kenigette? N. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  7. I jumped my first pack job. As a matter of fact, I did a hop 'n' pop from 4,000ft on that first pack job. I agree that if you are done packing it, then it means it's ready to be jumped, then you might as well jump it yourself. Besides, there is that little silver handle on the left side that seems very handy Bear in mind that when jumping at some smaller DZs, you may not be able to find packers to do it for you... 8. Great, great dropzone. Within minutes of arriving, I was introduced to everyone there. Incredibly nice people. Before boarding the plane, everyone gets a gear check from the S&TA. Once on jump run, the senior jumper was cuing jumpers out to assure separation! Then, after being done packing, I had lunch there, which had been cooked by... one of the instructors! Could not recommend this DZ enough. Nick
  9. That's what I thought. However, how much difference is there? For the sake of arguments, let's say a 3 way belly down goes ahead of a solo head down. How much of a difference from an upwind JR? Just trying to get insight. Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  10. In the case of an A/C doing a 180° fly over (an Otter in this case), hence heading downwind, do the exit seperation rules of upwind JR still apply all the same? In my case, last week end, a full load of 2 to 3 way Free Flyers. Fly over (180°) with still 2X3 way head downers & a solo head down to go before my friend and I went (2 way belly down pulling high). Since I wasn't sure, I left 8 seconds separation after the solo HD before we jumped. Made for a very painful upwind cross country to land in the same zip code as the DZ! Any insight would be greatly appreciated. 15. Heading to Perris tomorrow (Saturday June 12th). Message me by 7AM Saturday and I will pick you up. Nick PS: and how did Ron get a booty post out of this thread????????????? 17. I got nailed for a "refresher Jump" after being idled for 32 days (had 21 jumps then). And I have no problem with it. I have not enough jumps under my belt to really be able to judge whether I am OK to go solo safely or not. If nothing else, it prevented the mind fuck game of "should I REALLY be doing that"...etc... Didn't get it for a slot fare though. Would I have liked that? Damn right. Did I have a problem paying full instructor rate for it? Nope. I figure that if an instructor who's jumping camera/tandem/AFF all days on a week end (and I went there on a week end) has 1/2 hour free, he would probably be happier jumping with someone more challenging (or at least cuter) than I Hell, skydiving is tax deductable, right? Nick "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  18. I am heading to France next week. The dropzone nearest to where I will be (Corbas) only has Silhouette & Electra for rent. I have been jumping a Pilot 188sqft (9 cells) and Spectre 190 (7 cells) lately. Any tips as to how the Silhouette ad Electra differ (piloting wise) from the canopies I am used to fly (assuming similar size/WL)? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Same for packing tips on the 2 types (long and smooth is best, I will be opening high!!!). 19. Old French saying: "He who goes to bed with an itchy ass wakes up with smelly fingers..." Oooops, was it supposed to be the answer to a question??? 20. It seems to me that failure without trying is much scarier than failure itself. Also, in my experience, giving it your best may not get you to your goal, but you somehow always seem to end up getting a least redirected towards another goal. Not quite sure whether i am using the right terminology to explain it, but I have rarely seen/experienced total failure when really trying to succeed. I guess I should give it some time...
