    Good catchy soundbite. But you are assimilating Bush and the US as being perceived as one entity, which I thinkis incorrect. I think there is lots of love towards the US around the world.     I'm a total newbie as well. But bottom line, when it's time: YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT! (at least the first time, IMHO) You end up with them or you don't. I was told to throw them away. When I had my cut away, I remember clearly the silver being gone right away, but the CU cables still being dangling around near my head. Didn't care, and by the time I landed, the cables were gone (both handles never to be found again...). And the handles were (and still are) the least of my worries...     dito on the X-Key thread. I would talk to someone (S&TA, Manifest, etc...) about it. There is more than their own safety involved IMHO; that includes the other jumpers, the pilot, and anyone (like in the X-Key incident) that would witness someone crashing into their backyard. The sport in itself includes enough risks without having to add stupid behavior. One can do everything right and still die, so there's no excuse to do something stupid and risk other people's lives doing so. This thread should probably be moved to a "lower" forum soon...

    Hmmm... I am sure it has been done before, but I'd love to hear from someone who actually had to do that. Must be tricky, especially once one riser has been cut off and you are hanging from the other one... And why not take it a step further and kill 2 birds with one stone: Don't pull anything, so you can test the cypress AND the reserve. Sorry if I come across as a smart ass (and I definitely not mean this to be taken personally), but the fact one would mention a potential mal on the reserve (which we all know can and does happen) makes it a bad idea to even think of going silver for no good reason. The PD plan seems like a much better one in my opinion. My very inexperienced opinion.     A leading French newspaper conducted a survey a couple of weeks ago, asking people what their view was of America. Around 80% of respondents stated they liked the US, around the same number stated they liked American, and a similar percentage stated they did not like the current US foreign policy actions. I think simplifying to the "they don't like us" rethoric is missing the point. In my personal experience, the figures that came back from the survey are pretty accurate. I'll admit there are people who dislike Americans, much like there are Americans who dislike the French (or other nationalities). But the current feeling of animosity is due mostly I believe to the US actions in the middle east.
