    40+ years ago I told a student the toggles were, metal or plastic pieces. His were wood so he never touched them. Blond (what else?) lands after her first jump and we ask her how she liked it. "liked what?" with the most innocent look on her face. Guy with 43 jumps, still on level 2. Took 17 jumps to teach him to stand up on landing. Oh and he is a neurosurgeon.     Forty years ago Mike Steel and I were driving from NC to the nats in OK. Going through Memphis we see a USPA sticker on a car. We didn't even have to think about how to let them know we were jumpers. Steel moons um while we drive by and I wave at the guy like its old home week. He looks at us like: what the f(^&k?     I had this happen to me 30 years ago. Fortunately the camera was straight in front of me. i had taken the pilot chute out and put it on my back. It was just lazyness on my part.     My uncle had a stroke and couldn't work, so he spent his days walking around town. He found a lot of stuff. A bag with over 10k in it. Turned it into the police. He said to only write the good things you did in your log book, why would you want to remember the bad stuff?     You might look at a balaclava to wear under your helmet to help hold it in place. There is also a new thing that goes under helmets that looks like a cap with finger loops below the ear flaps. It was invented to take the helmet off by pulling on the loops that hold the cap, instead of yanking the helmet up. You need to check the receiver to see if it picks up wind noise and is compatible with the student radios if your DZ uses them.     Ray died October 24, 2011.He was 74,T that'll piss him off, cause he always hid his age from us. He was an engineer on the M-60 tank project and later worked for Apple. He jumped in new england, WI and ILL. He had a great sense of humor and a dirty laugh. He once cut away his main after it opened on a speed 10 man. exit and got in the star. He convinced a girl friend to take the bus over to his place and stop on the way and pick up a pizza. For the last 15 years a group of us would meet up at his place in Reno and go to the air races.
