    The US military found out a huge amount about smarts in WW II. They got hilly billy's from back in the country that couldn't read or write. But could fix, make anything. Give them an electrical schematic or map and they had no problem. The military changed their entrance tests to find this intelligence and that stuff is still in the tests. The tests that measure intelligence are biased to right handed, white men. Why? Just like all the religious doctrines, that's who wrote them. I always figured, artists where the smartest people.     Back in the 70's I knew two jumpers that lived in 3rd floor apartment in line with the end of one of the runways. Depending on the wind either landing lights lit the whole place up or the noise was deafening as plane passed over. The guys would swap who got to sleep in the bedroom every week. That was dead center of the runway. I guess bringing some girl home an some plane coming in to land in the middle of the night added a whole new dimension to kinky.     Dead Dugan use to run his chest strap through his main ripcord handle, so it didn't get snatched on speed star exits. The super pro curved chest reserve would total. You had to pull the top flap by hand to open it or put a jesus string from the ripcord to the top flap. Army team jumped those. Tri-con reserve. Volplane in the winter with the hydraulic opener.     In 30-40 years I see jumping gone full circle. Dawn somewhere on the great plains, a couple guys climb in a 170. Climb to altitude, push the door open and jump out.     Get some beat spray. The new stuff is great. Sprays 50 feet. I also carry a boat horn. If I even think there is a bear around, I lay on it. It works for wild bears. If they are use to humans they may not pay attention. As for the marks, they could also be a scratching tree. Bears scratch their backs and stretch like a cat on a tree. Sometimes they are very territorial of it. A mama bear is the one to be worried about. They will kick your ass in a heart beat, if they have cubs. Get rid of any food source this time of year. They are fattening up for winter. I wouldn't put the bird feeder out, if you have bears in the area. Take care of that bear. There are a lot of us and not enough of them. Forest Service, DOW will "move" them for you if they need to. Problem is, there's no place to move them.     Opened my round reserve. Looked where I was heading. Great big lake. Step in harness, inside the jump suit. I'm gonna drown. Funneled the reserve down to about 50 feet.     Clogged vent if it gets hot. Gas or electric? If it doesn't get hot and it electric there is a "thermal fuse" for the heating element, inside the dryer. Look up the make, model on the net. You can call local or might be able to order the thing on line. works to keep the heating element from melting. Pretty easy and cheap to fix. Bunch of stuff on the net on how.
