This was almost always the case when we were primarily a cash world. Now that everything goes on plastic more and more restaurants and bars are going to paycheck payroll and not handing out cash at the end of the night. So now, all tips are being reported. random thoughts: once worked at a convention location, Kiawah Island, a 15% tip fee was "in the bill", the bartenders and wait staff were "paid" a % of that fee based on where they worked - wait staff 10% - full bar 10% - party bar 8% - helpers 6% less than good+ service and you got fired, the staff "encouraged" each other to give great service, more than one person was "forced" to up their game based on social pressure, or they got fired cause we got 'em fired so tips plus $2.50 / hour was not bad, but it all got taxed The best advice I ever got was: treat every customer as if they were the only customer, because the next person in line will see what is happening and beleive that they will be treated the same way, the customer will decide how much of a tip to give based on how the person in front of them was treated. This has paid off many times. having said that: Why should a $5 beer get a higher tip than a $2.50 beer? Why should a $30 meal get a higher tip than a $20 meal? When the tip is computed it is very tempting to automatically deduct about 1/3 to make up for the taxes I'm paying because, in general, they are not reporting the income. one item I've seen with low-time jumpers that are small framed is that the rig extends past the side of their body, the wind is lifting the rig thus slowing the fall rate once you downsize and use a smaller rig the fall rate increases, going in the tunnel is a great idea but it may not solve the issue Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. Before you install the red pouch you should ask your DZO if it is OK. There are some folks that think the DZO is responsible for protecting you from yourself. On some future jump you might land in a pasture and the red pouch would irritate the bull. The bull would hurt you - instant lawsuit. Kids should be a conscious choice. I've got 2, wished I'd had more. Yes they can be a pain but the good times far outweigh the bad. Never took them to the DZ, spanked them when they needed it, took them out of the public place (restaurant, church, etc.) when they fussed and didn't take them on a plane until they were old enough to behave. And yes I get pissed when other parents don't seem to think that their kid acting like a brat is a problem. If I'm at the DZ or some other adult place and want to drink, swear or get naked don't get offended - take your kid elsewhere. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I doubt any tandem instructror would 'instruct' a passenger thougroughly enough to safely land the parachute in the cast of them being unconcious upon inflation. it is definately possible, but quite unlikely. It would also depend on the abilities of the said passenger. I would be intrigued to know the details of this incident you are relating to. At this DZ, the student receives video and verbal instruction on the jump. This includes flying and landing the parachute. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. Dear old timers of the sport (That's right, I said old timers Much respect though), I apologize on behalf of what appears to be the 95% of my generations of jumpers who have their heads way up their asses. We're not all like this, I swear! Some of us do recognize that we have less than 7 full years in the sport and aren't truly qualified to make authoritative commentary on trends in the sport over a decade ago. With my 32 years in the sport I don't know crap about swooping, except the potential outcome. My only advice will be don't hurt me or my friends, and get some health insurance. Please do it away from me and in the alternate landing area so the spectators can't see the carnage. Carry-on, have fun, and don't ask me for money when you are in the hospital. But, and most importantly, stop killing other people. One of the best skydivers I know/knew killed someone that I respected. That was stupid and wreckless. Oh, and don't get pissed off if you swoop near me and I get in your face, cut away your main, and pull your reserve. Simon these comments are not directed at you, just the subject in general.
