I understand why sites need to remain unnamed, so that not everyone knows where and when and who, thus protecting it for future jumps. But why places like the wall in Norway and the bridge in WV which are commonly accepted as BASE locations by even just observers. Is it just to stay in the habit? Just because its a rule without exceptions? and on burning... Could you then burn a site by naming it here? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

sweetness! I have seen a video of a birdman maintaining HD for about 15 sec after exit, but couldnt hold it for much longer, it was funny to see him cork! (I have heard the term cork refering to Hybrids. Is this also a common term for "pooping out" in a Sitfly or HD?) This poll HAS to have been done before, but I cannot find it, been searchin a while. So lets all do it again I curious as to how people decided to do their first jump. And for the discussion, how do you explain you first jump to a whuffo when he asks? I go crazy and never stop talking! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

This is actually something I have noticed moving around. People from outa town, more so foreigners that moved to a place will typically know the states, streets, counties, and place names better than the average individual that has lived there for his entire life. Here is my theory. When I moved to a place, I will look at a map for a long time, trying to figure out places and streetnames and such. People who grew up there will know what the places look like, but wont always know the names. (for instance, a foreigner will say: "turn left on nicholasville road, then two lights down until you hit cooper". A lifetime resident will say: Go to the end of the street, turn right, til you see the church with the big spire, make a right and you will see the park...etc.) Just an interesting observation! I wanna visit every country in the world. I wonder how many people have done that. Maybe if I'm really rich, I'll be able to skydive in every country in the world. I wanna learn to sail learn to SCUBA learn to BASE learn to Kayak better learn to climb better Climb some big mountains...not necesarily Everest, just some biggens. i gotta get a HOTT wife I wanna make it able for my kids to do everything I couldnt. I want them to grow up skiing, climbing, swimming, diving, hiking...you know. Maybe i'll want them to get good grades! and o yeah... I wanna build an empire as well, but not become so rich that everyone knows who I am. Just so that I can chill for the rest of my life without ever going to friggin work again! Haha, yeah, drove to Colorado last summer, and getting to Western Kansas, I70 got REAL BORING... So I took a country road, and kept my little S-10 truck going as fast as it could....92mph! I drove like that with cruise control on for over two hours, very frustrated! Have gone 220kph (dunno mph) in a Opel Astra, my moms car when I was like 13! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

You somewhat explain the need for a lot of jumps in your post. How come you need a lot of experience to jump wingsuits? (BTW, Birdman is just a bran of wingsuits right? What are other brands?) I understand that in a emergency your arms and legs have limited range, and the forward speed is something to learn to deal with. Are those the main concerns? Why else is so many jumps required? And say for instance that someone was solely focused on learning to jump a suit, could you mentor him through training skydives so that he doesnt need to do 500 before he straps on a suit? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

Apologies beforehand if this is dealing with some subjects that has been discussed earlier. Just having read through this entire list, I was wondering about a few things. Has there ever been any fatalities in South Africa? How come the fatalities heavily increase, (almost exponentially) after 2000? Is it purely ratios, because there simply were more jumps made? Is there any kind of organization that represents BASE jumpers? (JW) Like USPA for SKydivers? It looks to me like a lot of these fatalities could have been prevented. Correct Assumption or not? Is a mal in BASE looked upon as preventable, that it is the packer's fault? or just like Mains in Skydiving, that it occurs and you have to accept and deal with it? Sorry for the bombardment of q's here. BTW Tom, thankyou very much for that article "getting into BASE". It very much made me think MUCH more seriously about the sport. Having 34 skydives with only a little linetwist on one jump, I think it is easy to forget how dangerous skydiving is if you dont deal with it properly. I cannot imagine BASE, and how much you have to trust your ability to pack a good opening. Allright, all these games being posted on here reminded me of the cannon game I used to play 10 years ago on Windows 3.1 Anyone know where I can find another version of this game? There is two cannons shooting at each other over hilly terrain, and you can adjust the velocity and angle of the cannon to shoot more accurately. I was there last summer for 4 months, compared to Kentucky... I liked people not having the friggin accent which i am unfortunately picking up. yall I liked the people's overall attitude I liked that people weren't as friggin fat, and actually got off the couch and did something. I liked the mountains and the rivers close by, there are some incredibly beautiful places in colorado and most of all, I loved the SUNSHINE Awesome place, I'll be bak fo sho!

HAHa, I kicked up to my 13th jump, everyone in the plane was laughin at me, I couldnt stop it. (have several hilarious exit videos!). My first jump, I had the falling sensation, as if on a roller coaster. I did my second directly after, and did not feel it. My third was several days later, where I did feel it again. After that, i focused more on the relative wind, rather than the ground below, and it stopped. My kicking, I had to keep my feet together to make sure I wasnt kicking.
