I'd not jump camera wings for a long time yet. They are a whole new ball game. You'd be adding to many variables . A freefly suit will work nicely after you have enough experience to actually jump a camera . Be safe not sorry! Learn to fly your body and be comfortable in any position with that then maybe later add a video camera with a cameye and no ring site .Ring site gives another snag point and is another distraction. I never really saw a need for it though.I personally have never seen anyone that uses it on there helmet mounted camera.If i was shooting at sporting events all the time where i have my cameras hanging around my neck or more than one camera on my neck ,i would want it then just to keep them from banging together and such. I tried it earlier and couldn't get it to work for me . It's working ok now . Got me why. I met Chip a few years back down in Walterborough to do some base and a bit of skydiving along with my friends David Shipman, Ken Diodone, Todd Bonnea and Nelson. We all went out to the buzzard tower. Made a jump after dark,went out for drinks and dinner in Charleston afterwards. And all i could think of was what a great bunch of new friends i have made! I remember Chip talking about doing aff and tandems working at the dz a lot. He was one of the most positive friendly outgoing guys. After that i met up with all of the guys (TEAM GARGOYLE) base jumpers for several years at rivers for Bridge day .We got cabins side by side on the hill . It was great sitting around the fire listening to David singing with his guitar Chip, Todd, Nelson and all the wives talking and being the greatest group of people . Chip will be sadly missed ! I have had a couple that gave me the same problem.I called them and they made special effort to find some tongue switches with very light pressure to activate them . Best customer service i've seen for a long time. Are most people using a card reader to load video to a mac or a camera dock? I installed imovie 09 , but it only lets you load video from the camera dock which creates a bit of extra work .I didn't realize it wouldn't accept files from a card reader . Any ideas on this? I just got a new cx12 and was wondering if you have ever had any problems importing your videos into imovie 09? I got the new ilife series today and i can only get one of the video clips i shot to load to it. I didn't know that when i bought it it was only going to let me load the video's from the camera dock and not from my card reader into imovie 09. Any suggestions on this? Yes i'm familiar with all those features but it does slow down the camera ,and creates large files . If i was shooting a big formation or something i would probably shoot raw with jpegs imbedded. I tend to agree with Lazlo here. But i think my biggest fear is the reserve getting entangled with my helmet. Not so much the main. Because i'm stable when i deploy the main. But anything can happen after cut away from a highly loaded canopy thats spinning violently ! My last O'mally wasn't to bad though. :) But there will be others, you can count on it! If your jump numbers are correct i think you need to wait awhile before strapping on a camera. You'll be glad you did when the malfunction happens and your ready for it completely. And not questioning your ability while your still a newbie. I stopped doing raw files years ago.I don't think its worth all the headaches and time.I have some other non skydiving pro photographer friends that quit using it too. Even they say it's over rated. I agree there's more info there to work with . You can download a free 30 day trial version of lightroom from adobe. I tried it out recently and really liked it, although i don't shoot skydiving in raw. Spot (DSE) mentioned plane types. I generally am jumping from 182 and 185 wide body's. The only problem i ever have with camera's hitting anything is on climb out remembering to keep my head down lower while i climb all the way out on the end of the step. Just have to tuck my head until i get all the way out past the edge of the door. I got rid of the boxes a long time ago. They definitely are not worth the headache . I have never had any problems breaking a camera without it.Mine are all top mounted . It's digital ! You have plenty of time on the ground to experiment.Use full manual and play with it until your tired. I use all of my settings. With the exception of sports and the automatic modes.
