    Body Armor

I jump a snowboard jacket by dainese. Plastic spine protector ( which is basically what I wanted, for I like using my legs ), soft lower chest and back of shoulder protection. That's not as heavy as a biker's armor, but basically, I wnat to protect my back. I don't feel it at all when wearing a rig on. And I pretty much like the embedded reflector for those rescue device, just in case I get caught uunder the snow while being out for a jump... Fabien BASE#944
  5. And what do you drink during the night after a jump? Fabien BASE#944
  6. [reply I guess it all depends on your opinion of what exactly "low" is.................. One mans SL is another mans FF............... I've been down to 250' FF with a 265 fox ( which may be considered as oversized for me: 70 kgs ). I'm considering to go lower, and I also have in mind some exits around 250-270 which need some canopy maneuvering ( thus a minimal deployment height) to end up dry... I think the canopy size thing is pretty interesting, since I'm jumping two differently sized Fox's. Fabien BASE#944
  7. technical, but simple: What is the best canopy for low jumps? I understood I shouldn't do what I do with my fox... Fabien BASE#944
  8. BR gives a theoretical glide ratio of 1, 97:1 for the Fox, and 2.05:1 for the Flik, if my memory is good. Actual glide ratio depends on wing loading and PC size ( a 48" PC creates a huge drag...). Let's say 2:1 for a base canopy, that must be close to reality in most of the cases. Fabien BASE#944

    Bridge Day

I was in the 1st group, jumped first at 9h10 am ( I was at the very beginning of the 1st wave ), did 3 jumps, the last one 5 min before the end. So I think it's pretty hard to do more than that, except if you can pack in 20 min. And, this year, it's gonna be zero jump at BD. Maybe 2005, I hope! Fabien BASE#944
  13. Hi... On the 37th floor, it's not about being in need for accomodation, but rather for a jump Anyway, I should be in Shangai in november ( nov, 9 and 10, or maybe 10 and 11...), and I've been told that city is rising a lot! I'll give you a call before flying in, if you don't mind. CyA! Fabien BASE#944

    Congrats fab777!!!

Lots of thanxx to both of you!!! That was a great night! The return flight was soooo long, sitting in the dark across the atlantic, with the dead guy pounding in my head... Just tell the construction guys not to finish that B until next month, as I should be around your place on oct. 20/21. But that's got to be confirmed. Once again, thank you for all Take care! 17. My own experience: for a year and a half, I've lost an incredibly high number of opportunities to jump coz I could get nobody to go jumping with me, and I couldn't get much WE free ( due to my job ). Result: 1 year of practice, 25 jumps. And then, I found a spot, not very far from my place, which I went to alone, one day I just couldn't stop thinking to jump... ...and my life has changed! But of course, nobody will pick me up if I bounce. That's why I give more attention to wind conditions and so. Fabien BASE#944

    BASE and Employers

In general, base is regarded as closer to paragliding than parachuting. The legal stuff around getting several authorizations for a jump doesn't apply. At least until somebody at the local FAA really think about it... This apply mostly to E jumps. Of course, we have the same problems in national parks ( except our guards got no guns...). Jumps are forbidden in city areas, due to overflight regulation ( that means you can jump, but you shouldn't fly your canopy...). And last, no trespassing... Fabien BASE#944

    houston base?

I've just been to Houston, and I've got some question about a particular object I've spotted in the area. Anybody there to help me? Just PM me... Thanxx! Fabien BASE#944
  24. Question about SL: I suppose you need to S-fold the bridle ( I have seen it one the "carry-on SL pictures"). But the bridle should unfold BEFORE opening the rig... How do you do that? Is it possible to use a rubber band somehow tied to the rig? Any advice? Fabien BASE#944
