Interesting question: Have anyone had his back saved by his back protector, or wish he did? What was the circumstances? Fabien BASE#944
  4. This one: sitting in the baggage area waching etc..., at 11 pm in an african airport, knowing you've put the paper with the adress and phone number of your skydiving friends in the bag you're waiting for... and the DZ in the middle of the african nowhere... Speak of loneliness? Fabien BASE#944
  5. The following is of the airline's responsibity, not of the TSA or local equivalent, so this is just for information. This is valid for AF/KLM, but since it it related to the "dangerous goods" chapter, my guess is that it is valid for any IATA airline: A rig is allowed AS CHECK-IN BAGAGE ONLY, provided it's not fitted with a pyrotechnic AAD. That means: 1-a BASE rig or skydive rig without an AAD can be checked-in, but not taken as carry-on baggage. 2-an AAD equipped skydive rig has to be declared as cargo ( this is the beginning of the troubles). Once more, this is to be enforced by the airline, NOT be the security screeners. BTW, as a crew member, I go through the same screening process everytime ( enjoy the USA...), and I've had no problem yet with both my BASE nor skydive (with AAD), checked-in or carry-on... ...well, yet... 6. Cool. What kind of slope ( I mean how steep ) do you think I'll need? Fabien BASE#944
  7. What kind of canopy is suitable? I mean, I wouldn't try my Crossfire 109 in the 1st place ( also that may be fun, and is the objective to reach ), but will a 7 cell, low aspect ratio work? I'm thinking of my BASE canopy... Fabien BASE#944
  8. Still believe in that, 2 years later? Funny... Fabien BASE#944

Next time, say hello to la Mère Denis... Fabien BASE#944
  11. Are you asking in general or do you have a more specific question in ref to wingsuiting? PM me if needed. well... at first, I wondered if there was an issue with the AAD not recognizing the freefall condition, like , for instance, it turning standby or losing its setting. But my guess is that it's just like climbing to 14K, then getting down in the plane to 3000 and doing a hp'n pop... no other concern, since I'm pretty sure that'll work when needed! Fabien BASE#944
  12. Wildo... thank you. Not that I'm really concerned with that as a safety issue, but I'm just wondering about how it works... Fabien BASE#944
  13. 2 weeks ago, I checked my Vigil info page after a wingsuit flight ( well... in fact my last jump, considering I broke some of my bones on landing, but this has nothing to do with the subject). this is what I got: max vertical speed on last freefall=70 kmh, last freefall time=...2s. Should I understand that my AAD, not only won't fire, but doesn't even recognize a freefall condition when flying a wingsuit under that vertical speed? Fabien BASE#944
  14. Hey, Gabriel... 1000 jumps total, of which 700 hooking as much as I could with a BT pro and now a crossfire, which I load at 1.65. Felt pretty confident, never had a stitch. I'm now jumping the forums with a broken collarbone, after my last swoop last friday. Careful with that! Fabien BASE#944

Party at Ted's? If it's on saturday, I'm supposed to be in Atlanta, but I may try to convince my captain to divert to IAH... For obvious safety reasons, of course... Fabien BASE#944

  18. Well, that's what I had instinctively in mind. Anyway, thanx for the comment. Anybody from Icarus out there? Fabien BASE#944
  19. Understand the principle, but is a canopy generally trimmed for max glide, or not? Fabien BASE#944
  20. Easy to find... Walk from the railway station towards the jungfrau campground ( that's a left exiting the station, walk in the direction of the waterfall, take the right road when it splits in 2 just after the station), it's a 5 min. walk... that's the place where you will meet BASE jumpers at night ( and have beer also). Good jumps Fabien BASE#944
Our friend Jurij Graciv died yesterday morning in the Chartreuse Valley. He launched last out of 5. He supposedly impacted during the opening sequence, and have been found dead under his canopy. Jurij had several hundreds of BASE jumps. We've lost a friend of great value, and the Foreign Legion lost a Brother in Arms. Notice that a member of the rescue team who collected Jurij's body posted on the french board that they found him under a perfectly open canopy and PC. although not being a BASE jumper, he assumed that Jurij may have lost consciousness due to the pressure of the risers on his neck in line twists. Fly high... Fabien BASE#944

    MonsterBASE!!!!

Happy birthday... So it seems that B-day jumps just don't do... And after debriefing with my sister ( which is a master in this craft), it appears that the knife was just too heavy! Fabien BASE#944
  25. For those who don't know, jumper sare requested to call the helibase before each jump to inquire about incoming/taking off helicopters. So you need at least one cell phone per crew. The phone No is written on a board ar each exit. Fabien BASE#944
