  1. Just FYI the DZ is still going strong with Buddy at the Helm. He's not driving the van anymore though. I never knew Sandy. He was before my time jumping at Buddy's. I've heard a few stories though. I put his old rig back in the air this past weekend.
  2. Hey man I'm coming out to the DZ tomorrow. I don't wanna see your unmentionables lying around the camper.
  3. Because you obviously know whats best for everyone else. Why would security be a problem in the UK? You have a total ban on handguns. Didin't that solve all the problems? Surely a total bottle ban would solve this problem. I not even going to touch this.
  4. I used one for a bunch of credit card debt I had once. They got me a much better deal on interest rates, saved me a chunk of money, and stopped the phone calls. I think using them hurt my credit at the time, but it was pretty screwed up at that point anyway, so I felt I didn't have too much to lose. All in all I think it worked out pretty well for me and I'd probably have still made the same decision after going through it.
  5. Happened to me on my one and only tandem jump. I had about 425 jumps at the time and had never had a problem. I was jumping with a friend who was working on his tandem rating. I think it was a combination of a near empty stomach, over tightened harness, and me being pretty nervous about the jump. I managed to keep the Red Bull I had drank off my friend, and mostly off of myself. I swore after that I was done with tandems.
  6. I guess what I mean is that I have fun yanking and banking and doing hard toggle turns and front risers turns up high but I take it pretty easy for landings etc. I had alot of fun on the Stiletto but if the Sam isn't gonna be too much for me I might buy one if its a good deal.
  7. I don't really care that much about the airlocks. I was actually shopping for a Stiletto and found what looks like a good deal on the Sam in the right size , colors, condition, etc.
  8. My current canopy is a Sabre2 150 loaded at about 1.4. I have 500 jumps, and about 100 on this canopy/WL. I am considering purchasing a different canopy for my second rig to transition to an elliptical. I have a couple of jumps on a Stiletto at the same WL and am considering a Stiletto 150 or a Samurai 150. There would be no canopy size change, but just the change to an elliptical and in the case of the Samurai change to an airlocked canopy. I would like to get the input of some of the experienced jumpers here about either of these possible options. I am not swooping, but do enjoy flying the canopy aggressively while at higher altitudes. My main concern is to not do something stupid and get myself broken up.
  9. You can get the freefly hackey as an option from Mirage. I have them on both my rigs and really like them. Keeps the pilot chute secure, and I have had no problems with extraction at pull time. Kinda like the best of both worlds, maybe.
  10. I like "Fly From the Inside" by Shine Down.
  11. At my home DZ there are my self and about three other firefighter/paramedics that are regular jumpers, and we also have a flight nurse and a physician that are regulars as well. We keep spinal packaging equipment at the DZ and and some of us keep BLS and some limited ALS equipment with us.
  12. I have swapped out packed canopies several times without any problems by marking the left/right risers, but once I screwed it up and didn't notice it till I was under the canopy. I had the risers on the correct sides so the canopy was flying in the right direction, but the right riser had somehow gotten a full twist in it. Initially I think this twist would have locked the steering on the right side. I simply moved the twist down from the lines into the riser so I could fly the canopy. The only minor problem was the canopy had a slow built in right turn due to the effective shortening of the right side lines. Landed it without any problem and swore not to do that again.
  13. My malfunction, my problem. I don't normally use a packer at my home DZ, but I have used Packing Cathy for the last three years at WFFC and have had no problems whatsoever. I like to use a packer when I'm on vacation because, well I'm on vacation and I have the whole rest of the year to pack for myself. When I use a packer, I always reset my brakes, reset my slider, and always check that my PC is cocked and check the bridle routing. I think that just makes good sense.
  14. Only during the WFFC for the last 3 years, and that was plenty.
  15. Samuel L Jackson should fire his agent. Grue I guess your getting all fired up to see this now?
  16. I am interested in getting my first video camera for casual skydiving video. I am trying to keep the price of the camera to around 500 US or less. A friend recommended the Sony DCR-HC36. Does any know if this camera has a LANC port for use with a CAMEYE II? Also what other cameras might work well within my budget?
  17. I will be at the WFFC again this year, and would love to try and make the Anvil Brothers. I am a little light at 190 pounds without gear, but I think I can crank up the speed to dock with the big boys. I'll be looking forward to it.
  18. Thanks for the info. I have been flying my baggy freefly suit on my belly and seem to do OK. My RW suit is a Tony and I have been very happy with it so far. Maybe I will talk with him about it if he shows up at WFFC this year. How about that vendor list WFFC folks?
  19. Once a shoulder is dislocated it is sometimes easier to dislocate the shoulder again due to stretched or damaged tendons/ligaments. Of course have it checked by a physician and give yourself plenty of time to heal. The sky will be there when you are ready. I once had to help carry a jumper with a sprained ankle from the woods who landed there due to a dislocated shoulder. She had previously dislocated the same shoulder. She didn't know how to steer her canopy with one hand, and just flew straight off into the woods and landed without a flare. We were just thankful she didn't have a mal as it could have turned out bad with her lack of experience. I can't imagine some one who doesn't know how to steer with one hand trying to handle a mal with one hand.
  20. I currently have an RW suit with booties, and an inexpensive freefly suit. I like to be able to put on one suit and use it for pretty much everything. I am comfortable on my belly in the freefly suit, but it has no grips for doing any type RW. My question is, does anyone make a freefly type suit with small grippers that could be used for a little casual RW as well? I would like to have sort of a multipurpose suit that would be good for Rw with hybrids and that sort of thing.
  21. Hey Fleahop, As a regular at Buddy's DZ I'm used to a longer ride in a 182 so the ride in the AN 2 should be no problem. If it was the cost of a regular jump ticket I'd make at least one just for the log book entry.
  22. Good Point. My first 100 or so jumps were on F-111 canopies, but they were all 9 cells I believe. I have jumped a couple of 7 cell mains in the recent past but they were ZP so I'm sure there's not much of a comparison. By the way, glad to see you are still posting even if you aren't jumping. I post very little on the forums, but read quite a bit and am always willing to learn from those such as yourself.
  23. You are correct. I originally had a PD 160 in my current rig, but after multiple attempts by different riggers I was unable to get an acceptable looking pack job. The container was listed to hold a PD 160 reserve, but with my CYPRES making things even tighter, the container bulged, had ugly wrinkles, and was just generally unsightly. Not what I was looking for in a brand new rig. I'm not sure leaving the CYPRES out would have helped enough to cure the problem, but that just was not an option. I swapped the 160 for a 143 in order to keep the rig from being a brick, and to alleviate those problems. Unfortunately, none of those things make me any lighter or my reserve any bigger. On the positive side, I am getting canopy coaching, and have thoroughly read and re-read Brian Germain's The Parachute and It's Pilot, and try to put what I have learned into practice. Obviously these things are good but are no substitute for experience. I hope however that some of the things I have learned will help me when the time comes that I need it.
  24. The friend only weighs about 115-120 pounds at exit weight, so I would think that would be OK. The reason you mentioned is the reason I am not considering using the reserve myself. As far as visually, the canopy looks perfect to my untrained eye. No stains, fading, obvious damage, or frayed threads. I looked for all this type of obvious stuff before I even considered letting my friend use it. I think it will be going to Precision for an inspection just to be on the safe side.
