You have been getting some seriously bad information if you believe this. I hope you get the real facts before you start letting them in on them.

No one at Skydive Opelika has ever scared the crap outta me, well except for myself of course and I'm pretty certain none of our pilots is insane. If you don't mind, PM me with the details of what happened. I'm curious.

I'm going to a charity ball in about 2 weeks and need to learn to dance. I don't have much time and I'm looking for any good ideas. Help a rhythmically challenged white guy out!

So I tried my first 135 this weekend....
FireMedicJumper replied to FireMedicJumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
One thing I noticed and discussed with the canopy's owner was the difference in our physical size and arm length. The canopy is set up for her on a short set of risers (14") and I was able to reach the stall point easily with my longer arms. It wasn't a problem but I had to pay attention not to pop myself back up too much on landing. -
So I tried my first 135 this weekend....
FireMedicJumper replied to FireMedicJumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
After a couple hundred jumps on various 150s I flew my first 135 yesterday. The 150s I have jumped include Sabre, Sabre2, Stiletto, Mamba, Katana, and my current main is a Samurai 150. It seems there is a big difference between a 150 and a 135. At least its more difference than a 170 to 150. I had no problems and landed it straight in, and would feel comfortable jumping it again, but I don't think I'm ready to rush my next downsize. Is the difference really as big as I thought it was or did it just seem that way. The canopy I jumped was a Stiletto 135. -
Skydive Opelika Night Jumps Part DEUX!
FireMedicJumper replied to TFFTM's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I had a great time at the previous night jump. Can't wait till the next one! Count me in. -
Yeah most of the city cops have basically said they wont write us firemen unless we leave them no choice. But if you're drunk, arguing, reckless, etc., them the gloves are off. It seems the state troopers on the other hand don't give a damn about anybody except maybe other cops. Having said all that, I don't think anybody should get special priviledges or get tickets fixed because of who they are, but it happens all of the time for those who are related to the right people or know the right people, have the right job or connections, etc.

We used to take the really big nylon zip ties and put them on the driveshafts of rear wheel drive cars. Doesn't hurt anything but it's funny as hell when they pull off and and keep stopping trying to figure out what the noise is.

Try that with someone with boderline low blood pressure or just use too much and you might drop it enough to make them pass out. Could be disastrous depending on circumstances!
-
"I hope that you had a good bday despite getting a ticket.." "That's f'd up. Sorry you ran into such an ass on your b-day!" See, Thats more like it I feel better already!
-
Yeah, you hush up! Thats not making me feel any better. I know you're right but it still doesn't make me feel better. I'm looking for sympathy dammit!
-
Yeah it sux. He didn't seem to care that I was in uniform either, not that I think that should get me a pass but it would have been nice. What really pissed me off was all the other people who had blown past me doing close to 90.
-
A fucking speeding ticket on the way home from work. State Trooper wrote me for going a whole 10 mph over! I was so pissed at him and I guess myself too. I wanted to ask him "How many jumps is this gonna cost me?" Ticket was $157!!

Young skydiver meets old rig
FireMedicJumper replied to FireMedicJumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We are planning to come back sometime next year for a week or so. All of us had a great time and the hospitality of the Raeford regulars was awesome! Maybe we can get a little time in the Paraclete tunnel next year. -

Yeah I got almost the same exact email from him which I forwarded to HH. The add is now gone so I'm assuming it was deleted by HH. -

It was pretty funny. Tucker gave the exit count and I could hear him yell "READY, SET, OH SHIIIIT!" just as we went out the door! -

You probably did jump with him this past Memorial Day weekend if you were at Emerald Coast. A bunch of us went down there for the Beach Boogie and had a blast. -

No. He usually jumps at Skydive Opelika. Most of the regular jumpers Opelika just got home from a week or so at Raeford. We had a great time there and all the regulars were way cool and very friendly. We also got to meet and check out Paraclete and Airspeed! The team guys were just as friendly as the regular joes. -
Young skydiver meets old rig
FireMedicJumper replied to FireMedicJumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A few days ago, an 18 year old skydiver and friend of mine, Tucker Sandlin, made a Paracommander jump at Raeford. We were joking about him being younger than the rig he was jumping! He did a great job and made a good landing on the DZ in the main landing area, and I was lucky enough to get to tag along and snap a few pics. -
Unsupportive spouse???
FireMedicJumper replied to peanutgallery's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't want to say that skydiving killed my marriage as we had some other problems before I started jumping but it sure didn't help any. I thinik it more or less pushed things over the edge or out the aircraft door so to speak. -
Man I've never been to the farm, but all I've ever heard has been good. One day I'll get off my ass and make the drive over there. I wish I got up to Cullman more often. Good guys up there. Right now I'm about two hours from Skydive Alabama. It's gonna blow having a turbine DZ fifteen minutes from home that I can't feel good about spending my money at.
-
Buddy can have his days just like the rest of us thats for sure. I know he is no fan of Ben and Cary and thats putting it mildly. I sometimes make the drive up to Skydive Alabama. If you're looking for a friendly professional turbine DZ that you can crank out a bunch of skydives at, it's a great place, and they are not connected to B&C at all. I'm pretty sure that Curley hates them just as much as everyone else.
