This "Enter the pattern at 1000 feet" concept we teach

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Spectre have a flatter glide ratio than the Sabre2? I dunno, just thought I heard that somewhere. Never go to a DZ strip show. -
USPA needs to update their emblem. This is 2004' not the 70's
benny replied to royalskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
While experienced skydivers know that ram-airs are by and far the most commonly used parachutes and most would prefer to jump them, the whuffo public still tends to associate skydiving activities with big round parachutes, their a cultural icon. So what, we know we fly something different, who cares? Never go to a DZ strip show. -
Are you seriously trying to imply that I'm a pedophile simply because I pointed out the fact that old men have been screwing 14 year old girls throughout history and that the law in every state sees a difference between statutory rape and pedophlilia. It's not my fault that the laws are what they are, call your congressman. And then you use an ancient book to condemn me, now that you've implied that I like little girls (none lower than 18 thanks!). But that ancient book couldn't have possibly been talking about fourteen year olds because it was quite common in those times for men, even and especially men "of the book" to take young wives, yes, often as young as 14 (lots of childbearing years) for god said "Be fruitful and multiply". So, none of your arguments really work except for being childish and blatantly implying that I'm a pedophile just because I happen to know things about the law and the history of the world. Great, real fucking great. You're a classical genius. Never go to a DZ strip show.

Words of a pedophile in my book. It's actually a construct of modern, mainly North American protestant culture, to say that marriage and sex or just sex for that matter, with a 14 year old is pedophilia. It's been done throughout history, From ancient Greece, and Rome straight on to modern times (its still legal to marry 14 yr olds w/parenal consent in some states). It may not be your taste, but even the law in most states does not regard sex with someone 14 years of age to be pedophilia, but statutory rape (there is a difference). The thing is man, you should just chill out... I realize you probably have daughters or nieces around that age or something and worry about our European amigo getting ahold of one of them, but please it's much more likely she'll be busy losing it to the pimply faced 16 year old down the block. Democrats want U.N. to monitor U.S. Elections
benny replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
just our sovereignty Hmm, yeah, like the sovereignty we returned to the Iraqis? Hell, we'll be monitoring their elections. Do you people really believe that we in the United States, stand alone above scrutiny. Out last election was widely disputed and unarguably decided in less than traditional democratic fashion - a Supreme Court decision swooned over by Republicans (you guys claim to hate activist judges). Alas, I guess that's really ok with ya'll as long as the fella they (not we) put in office agrees with your ideology. But tell me the truth my Republican friends, would we have ever heard the end of it if the Supreme Court ruling had been 5-4 in favor of Mr. Gore and he just narrowly squeaked by for the win? I don't think so, and I think we all know it would be 4 more years of "Don't Blame Me..." So, why not have the UN monitor us is my question. Do you people think the United States is perfect? Has there not been a history of corruption at all levels of our society including the government? Would a little oversight really be a loss of sovereignty? It is after all, your voice whose interest the UN would be protecting. Never go to a DZ strip show. -
Rumors of Hillary Clinton becoming Kerry's running mate.

Edwards is great, I only wish he had the name recognition in the Northeast that would have won him the primary. He'll make a great VP candidate though, definitely makes Cheney just look like a mean old bastard, which, in retrospect, is what i guess he is. Never go to a DZ strip show. -
You all heard it, if he allows it, it not a personal attack. {{{Writing notes for later.}}} Yeah yeah, hardy har, do keep your 18 year old (and therefore legal in all 50 states (Alabama?)) daughters away from me though. Never go to a DZ strip show.

Yeah, good cracks there guys, you and Rehmwa really got me good. NAManBoyLA? Yeah, umm, sorry no. Besides I think their views extend a little bit earlier than adolescence. But of course you were the one reminiscing about how easily erections came at 14, so surely you realize that adolescents are inherently sexual. That's my point. And that the law is well, a bit prudish in many cases (it was very recently illegal to get a blowjob from anyone of any age in the state of Georgia). In many countries in Europe, 16 is the age of consent, I think it's more reasonable than 18. Let's remember that rape would still be rape and that's never ok but yeah, I think many 16 year olds are plenty capable of deciding whether or not they want to have sex. Call me a perv if you will, but oh well. Never go to a DZ strip show.

I actually did not say it was ok, just that I didn't think it would cause much psychological trauma, however, that wasn't even in the post you were replying to. So let me ask you, at what age would it be ok? Do we really know? I'd say it varies from person to person, of course we have to have legal standards but surely there are some 16-17 yr olds ready for sex and some 21 year olds who are not (emotionally speaking). My point is simply that the application of the law has no bearing on a person's psyche in the instance and the assumed psychological trauma should not have any bearing on the law (as we've seen in the views of so many, girls are much more traumatized by something like this than boys). "Assumed" is the key though, maybe this 14 yr old boy did really want it, maybe not, maybe he should undergo counseling after which it would be up to him whether or not to press charges. So, do you really think there's a switch? If so, when does it turn on? When's it ok? Can you even give an answer to that? Then what makes you think legislators are qualified to do so? No kidding there's a legal issue, there's a legal issue in many states with a 19 yr old having sex with a 17 year old, do you really think said situation would be all that mentally scarring? The fact of the matter is that we as Americans have a fairly regressive view of human sexuality, and in addition we often tend to see the law as the definition or right and wrong when the law is merely a tool. Recall prohibition, slavery, etc.. The law doesn't define right or wrong, only what we can get away with at a certain point in time. Never go to a DZ strip show.

I think that view is more a product of the European realization that adolescents are sexual beings, rather than the prudich American view that a switch suddenly turns on when you reach a magic number (18) and then your ready to screw. Never go to a DZ strip show.

You have a fairly misguided notion of darwinistic evolution if you think it just happened randomly, or more to the point, if you think that's what darwininian evolution is about. Never go to a DZ strip show. -

F%ck microsoft altogether, my computer was in a completely nonfunctional state (crashed at least once an hour) and then I switched to LINUX, Not a single crash since I've had it installed. Still haven't figured some things out but unless I come up with the cash for a mac, I'll stick with LINUX Never go to a DZ strip show.

So are we to take this to mean that you believe entitlement programs are the largest budget items in the US? Hmm, you don't think it might possibly be defense? Never go to a DZ strip show. -
Yep, you're right, having a penis between your legs just makes you a horn-dog who will use every opportunity, including power, to get laid. Females are just little angels who want to keep their virginity as long as possible until some big bad man comes and talks them out of it. Gee, aren't we talking about a 23 yr woman screwing a 14 yr old boy... My question, is, surely this woman had other options no? I mean with all the horndog men around. Never go to a DZ strip show.

Since females aren't usually predatory the law should treat them differently? What scientific facts does she have backing here theory up? With the case of a 23-14 yr old "relationship", i don't think either would be significantly psychologically scarring. If it were consensual (not according to the law of course) then I see no reason why a girl would be more traumatized. Never go to a DZ strip show.

I would tend to agree with you if the comment hadn't been made a $10000 a plate event. And also if we weren't talking about rolling back tax cuts which were directed at the top one half of one percent of all income earners in the US. Never go to a DZ strip show. -

OK, yeah that was pretty horrible decision making in the way she worded it, but it's true. Well, it's not exactly taking it from them, it's more requiring payment for services rendered by the government. But that's a whole nother story, Yeah, she should've kept her mouth shut on that line. Some states also have what are know as "four year" laws, where say, a 19 yr old wouldn't get in trouble for having sex with a 17 year, because of less than 4 years age difference. As an aside, I did hear of a case where a young man (under 18) was charged with statutory rape for having sex with his slightly younger girlfriend. Not sure what state it was in but that's pretty out of whack. Never go to a DZ strip show.

Hmm, so I skipped most of this thread, were you for or against allowing 14 year olds to vote? Personally I say give it to them. But then again I'm all for youth rights as they are basically the last great disenfranchised group in this nation with hardly anyone to speak for them. Kev brings up a good point about taxation without representation. I believe that the key underlying the issue is the equal protection clause. Kids are anything but equally protected under the law. For that matter we adults change the laws around willy nilly whenever it suits our purposes (or a DA's reelction goals). "Ooh, you did something really bad now, we're gonna try you as an adult." "Well can I have a beer then?" "Hell no, you're not an adult." Hmm, I think there's a contradiction here. We need to make a choice as a nation, either children are children and shouldn't be held accountable the same as adults nor given the privileges... or not, and they can vote, and do whatever the hell they want to and face the full weight of justice if they break the law. None of this you're a kid until you do something really bad and then we're gonna punish you as an adult shit. Never go to a DZ strip show.
