The truth of the Paracommander
jimmytavino replied to drenaline's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I had an instructor who was from Europe , when I began jumping..who highly endorsed the French Papillon,,, I was jumping one by my 25th jump and owned 2 of them... They had a HIGH porosity apex, and so,,, were very stable in deep brakes, (since air was "venting through the apex", rather than "spilling under the canopy skirt.)...unlike some PC's especially the longer lined PC's... I made over 900 jumps on my Papillons and could shoot pretty good accuracy with them.Jumped one at the National Collegiate Parachuting Championships in '74 at DeLand Fla. (still have the tee shirt ) A jumper needed to be very diligent,, from the time of opening,,, in order to land at the target,,,cause they only flew maybe 15 mph,and sure often we would be backing up...... I used R 3 releases.. for a few years and they were velcro and elastic closed.....I once had an R3 release!!! on me.... upon landing.... Since we did not Flare.... at landing,, often we would grab the risers in each hand and do a "chin up " of sorts,,,, just at touch down... if timed properly,,, it helps the landing alot.....anyway,, I do this move,,,,, and ... chink!!!! off in my hand comes my RIGHT RISER!!! -

*** "Credit Cards are the biggest scam going" Running up huge numbers and then dancing away from your responsibilities,,, by "declaring bankrupcy"........... THAT's the biggest scam going........... wouldn't you agree?????? Like everything else in this world...... you can be an adult about it or you can be a child about it...If you get with the "buy now pay later" philosphy.... at least PAY when the time comes......otherwise.... don't BUY As for Lolie..... If you look at this as a chance to demonstrate financial maturity,, and as a chance to begin to build a GOOD credit history,, then Go ahead....get one,, but begin planning for the pay back,,, even before you get the bill.... and for SURE,,,,,pay MORE ,,, MUCH MORE than the Minimum amount each month.....remember you don't pay ANY interest,,, if you pay your bill in full each month......

*** "A skydive that lasted half an hour..." So THAT was the guy in that lousy skydiving movie,,, POINT BREAK Did he also tell you about having a conversation with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze,,,,,,WHILE they were experiencing this half hour skydive??????... Man,,, that baloney really cracked me up,,,,,,,, where they are yellin' back and forth at one another,,,(while the altimasters are reading like 2 grand...)..,"you pull,,, no YOU pull.... no YOU pull."... hahahaha meanwhile NOBODY is pullin' and like 40 more seconds go by, and they still haven't run out of sky yet.......THAT's how you get to make a half hr. skydive..... hahaha

I made my 5 static lines and # 1 freefall at the same place....Out of a Cessna 210,, (nice plane,, retractable gear, 4 jumpers. We were trained to do a "poised exit"..and .....we stood on the tire!!!!!! yes TIRE.... not step. ) Made my #2 freefall ( jump # 7 in my logbook) at a dropzone about an hour away.It was one month and 4 days after my first static line,,,, which was also my first ever airplane ride!!!!!!!..it was my first jump from a 182.. hahaha........beer.... beer ....You say????..well then,,you would be correct!!! And I believe I had one or two of them myself... At that time, the 3 or 4 places nearby (within 2 hrs) were friendly with each other,, and even shared C182's from time to time...Once in a while all the clubs would visit at the "Host Drop Zone",, bringing people, gear, students, and planes.... the next month someone else would host...My jumps # 15 16 & 17 were again at a different place,,,Stormville NY USA.. Met a great group of people there... They would later migrate from Stormville ,,,, to help form and create The Blue Sky Ranch at Gardiner NY......I have ALWAYS enjoyed visiting new drop zones,, and so have continued doing so,, whenever I can...Likewise we are always considerate and welcoming whenever guests visit our "Home Sweet Home"....

100% Italian American...... All 4 grandparents came to USA between 1910 and 1920, as young adults or teens..from the Rome and Naples Italy area...... My folks,, both born In the USA,, I, and my siblings,,,,all 5 of us born in MOUNT KISCO New York,,,in the early 50's.... MOUNT KISCO, NY was the birthplace of not only all the Tavino kids,,,,,,,,,,,but of the Parachute Club of America,,, which later became USPA......PCA began I think in the late 50's. and was sarted by Jacques Istel and maybe Lew Sanborn...Of course I was only 5 at the time,,, So I don't remember for sure... "Italian Americans Only!!!!! On the Wall of Fame...!!!" Danny Aiello... as Sal.....Mookies' pizza man boss in Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing"

Absolutely excellent points have been made by each poster....Sure before having children, couples should be fairly certain that they can "see it through for the long haul".. Parenting isn't just changing diapers, and midnight feedings... We are talking about a full 20 year chunk of time ... And if you have a few children and they are born over 5 or 7 years,,, then couples have a 3 decade,,,,,,,,, Adventure

*sigh..* He's so dreamy! Gee Lolie,,, If you keep talkin' like THAT,,,,,you will never get here,,,, for those "courtesy" lift tickets.... and since I am waiting for you,,, ,,before I manifest,, does this mean I will NEVER skydive again????? hahaha jimmeetee -

Hey No kiddin.... just went and saw it today,,,, my son was off from high school and so we went..... I have to agree...... only about 10 or 15 minutes of the movie were any good......Some of it was pure,,,,,,crude........ some of it plain idiocy......some of it was revolting...... the BEST part...was. the SONY VX-2000 hand held camcorder, (with flip out viewfinder,,, and 3 chip technology) that these dudes were runnin' around and recording with....hahaha.... That was one badass camera..... I did like the opening sequence best of all..... where about 8 or 9 guys are in, on, under and hanging onto ,,,,,, a GIANT,,, Shopping Cart which is screaming down this hill ,,,while the guys, are punching,, and hitting and endangering one another .....Then they go through a guantlet of sorts... where these cannons are shooting rocks, and concrete and debris at them,,,as guys are falling out of and off of, this huge wheeled cart.....then they crash into a streetside produce stand,,,,,, and EVERYBODY gets tossed out.....plus the music was GOOOOOD.. for that sequence......unfortunately ,,,, the show went downhill from there.........sure go see it if you want,,,,,but you will be the jackass,,,,, unless you save some $$$ and go to a matinee' then you will only be a "halfass"

NOOOOOO!!!!!! How YOUUUUUUUU doin?????

Yeah, I know. *sigh...* For Lolie and Tigra..........do not despair In the part of the country where we are,,,,,, since we can't jump much during the winter,,,, we can work hard, (at our REAL jobs) 12 months of the year and save up some $$$$,,,, so that when the skydiving season gets busier,, we CAN be in the position to be a real gentleman,,,, and pick up a lift ticket, once in a while for a friend,or for a visiting sweetie...... so come and visit!!,,,, sweetie(s)!!!... jaytee "Life moves pretty Fast,,, you don't stop and look around,,once in a while,, and you could miss it!!" re: "if a guy liked you and wanted to jump with you, wouldn't he buy your jump ticket?? or ask you to jump and expect you to get your own??....".. In that case it really is no different than asking anyone at the DZ,,, male or female to make a jump with you.. if you are on the same manifest and just group up, together,,, it should be dutch...If you ask anyone about making a jump together, and manifest together,, it should still be dutch...seems to me that it has always been that way... The initial question was regarding,,, established relationships....and in that case, the couple may mutually decide how they want to handle it.. Of course any "courtship" jumps which may lead up to a relationship,,, should be handled in a way that is fair and equitable to both jumpers...a good rule???.....NEVER take advantage of the situation.....right? Of course many jumpers sometimes like to share jump tickets with friends, for birthdays, or for payment for work or rigging services, or for other reasons of celebration, or simply as a treat for a friend who might be on a tight budget.......it isn't ALWAYS about the man/woman/ boy/girl thing,,, sometimes it's just about pals,,,,, jumpin' together.....
-
It might depend on how other "mutual expenses" are handled....and also on who has more "expendable income"....then either partner may pay,,,,but only if the other is appreciative... For sure.... anytime there is a kiss pass,,, the guy oughtta STEP UP AND PAY, AND PAY WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE

Sure enough AggieDave..... I would agree.... But some "large turbine DZs" still have a 180 or a 182 parked on site... because many places that can now offer a turbine,,,,,,BEGAN as Cessna DZs and still DO have ,,,, that small DZ atmosphere,,only over the years the support for the place has grown, and if there is a good staff,, the numbers of novice and intermediate level jumpers have grown as well. Then you have the BEST of both worlds,,,,,, a place with good vibes,,,, AND great aircraft........Plus you can have the occasional Sunday afternoon, where the 180 will take off and 15 or 20 minutes later the Otter will go,,,,,,,,and they meet up with each other on jump run !!!,,, Nothing like a formation load where the exit doors face one another!!!!especially when you have REAL capable jump pilots..........I swear we ALMOST chunked an exit,,,, where 6 floaters from the Otter.... were hooked up to 4 more who were on the step of the Cessna Hahaha,,,,,, (OK OK ...just kiddin'....... only happened in my imagination)......... But wouldn't THAT be Fun!!!!!!!!!! Cessna Jump.......or NO jump..??.....Put me on the Cessna manifest!!!!!! Turbine load or Cessna Load......??? "Doh" (homer simpson) .... It isn't even close...
