I was listed as Yonkers, New York and Paterson NJ.....pretty similar to yours, Baksteen. I spent my first 18 years, an hour or so North of NYC....so it's accurate for me... I've been (bin) in western NY for 42 years but have managed NOT to assimilate the phrasing and dialect of Buffalo or Roch. and I can always identify a person here, who is native to the New Yawwwk City /Brooklyn/Long Island area...

Re: Bill sure I DO remember him... The group around here was WELL established and even could be considered "cutting edge" ...around the time I Began. ( '72 ) Akron was a DZ , and lots of the guys were starting to use Ram Airs... Bill flew jumpers. I remember him,,, but it's likely he wouldn't remember me.. I am from the Rochester area and we had a Dz south of the city, there were, at that time, 6 different cessna DZs all within an hour and a half of where i lived... I enjoyed visiting each of them..always attended the various circuit meets., accuracy, RW. Sometimes we'd have 3 or 4 cessnas on site, and one year we did 12 ways... I also remember the Kuhns, and others from that era. Henry Ski is still active in the sport. I recall when he and i did CReW dives out there, @ Gift of Wings. He with his 5 cell foil and me pinning him,,, with my Strato-Cloud.. we could make Bi-planes... like nobodies business... spiraled one, once, right over the top of the DZ... here are a couple of pics... one from 1975 and one from last summer. My wife is standing in the center, i'm on the right. Can you name the person on the left??

Of course I would pull if I couldn't see and of course it's a backup for more peace of mind - if it wasn't a backup and I RELIED on one, I wouldn't be jumping without one in the first place. Fine...ONLY if you're In the Air with Others!!!! be DAmn sure to do a good strong WAVE... before you Pull especially if there are ALOT of "others"... ANd if you're way above track off altitude... I've been wearing prescription eyeglasses Only, on my jumps for decades..... no goggles or full face... sport strap holds the glasses together and any sort of helmet/frap hat keeps the whole set-up ON my head... I always have a back-up pair in my gear bag though... just in case.... I cannot speak with authority about full face helmets... jmy A 3914 D 12122

started at 19.... not ALL that young...BUT so long ago now that I have been jumping for almost 70% of my entire lifetime. while I have suffered some wear & tear... I still Feel pretty "youthful"...

yes. that was what i was thinking. I'd be concerned about the " plummeteers " neck and spinal column... I suppose with practice and repetition, one can make the move, needed for safe contact....BUT Man,,,, the learning Curve HAS to be waaay UP there.... Could be that this is the evolution of all the High Dive with Inflatable pads work.... done over the years by stunt persons and HollyWood crews.....

seems Safe enough...TO EXIT... but the landing is trickier... . It seems to me,,,,,, it's ALL about body position At the Moment of contact, with the landing pad... Hit it awkwardly or sideways, or with an arm or leg wrapped up under you.... and THEN the smiles all fade away.( the way I see it ) watching that from the ground level, distant point of view, was Unnerving.. Even from 150 feet... they are goin' damn FAST!!!!! jmy
