If you can explain why it is the correct conclusion you shouldn't need anything as irrelevant and asinine as Osama Bin Laden's opinion to support your position. If you can't explain why it is the correct conclusion, the word of a fundamentalist nutcase isn't going to help you.
-
I would be happy to discuss that after you explain why it has any bearing on Bin Laden's comments. Bin Laden had no idea whether or not Biden was in favour of going ahead with the mission to kill him.
-
The thing about the Chinese and the Russians (as well as being actual foreign powers with wide ranging foreign intelligence networks and lots of people and resources dedicated to this stuff) is that they still exist. If you still think that here and now in 2020 we should be more worried about what Osama Bin Laden is planning than what Putin and Xi want then, well, yeah. Eyeroll.
-
Don't be ridiculous. We're not talking about foreign powers with vast intel networks and secret information the rest of us aren't privy to - it's Osama Bin Laden. The only things he knew about Biden he saw on the same TV and news websites the rest of us can read. While I'm sure I'd consider him much more up to speed on Afghan and Pakistani politics than me, whatever he had to say about any western politicians I would agree with only if I already had the same opinion. Seriously - tell me why I should consider him to be any kind of authority whose opinion should shape my own?

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations
jakee replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Like you. Fox news told you the 'left media' were being biased about Georgia and you believed them. And you still believe them despite not being able to identify what was said that was biased. Surely the irony here is clear to you - that it was your trust in a partisan media source that caused you to call out imaginary bias in stories from a different media source... and now you're compounding the error by calling out other people for being too trusting in the media. Have you ever sen a hole you didn't think needed to be dug any deeper? -
Umm, he did. In every sense. He brought out the flu comparison, he expressed surprise that anyone dies from the flu anyway, and he suggested trying the flu vaccine against the new coronavirus.

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations
jakee replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Why not? The plan is bad. The plan is heavily criticised for being bad. The headlines reflect that. Where is the bias? -
That is utterly absurd. Pretty much everyone supports the basic premise of getting back to normal when it is safe to do so. However, in this case the details of how that happens are actually pretty freakin' important. Being too quick to re-open businesses that require personal contact is not a tiny discrepancy. Being too quick to re-open bars, restauraunts and other places of mass gathering is not a tiny discrepancy. It is blatant dishonesty for you to suggest that it is. Again, even the biggest cheerleader of reopening there is, DJT himself, is criticising the Georgia governor over this, yet you contnue to insist that Fox is right and the only reason the media criticised him is because he's a Republican. Who do you think you're kidding right now?

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations

Once again Turtle - stop lying, stop trolling, stop pretending you can't remember the things you said only one page ago. You were selling the line that since the media are criticising the Georgia governor and not the Colorado governor, it must be because of anti-Republican bias. But it isn't. It's because the Georgia governor's plan is irresponsible and reckless and the Colorado governor's plan is not. And now we're in a situation where even Donald Trump can admit that, but you can't. Just think about what that says for your claims of trying to be as neutral as possible. -
And yet they still suckered you into believing the rest of the media was being unfair to Georgia.

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations
jakee replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Just to revisit this - guess who just said these different things about states re-opening in general, and the Georgia governor's plans specifically; "It's been encouraging to watch states begin to open up, it's a beautiful thing to see... I told the governor very simply I disagree... safety has to predominate.... I think spas and beauty salons and tattoo parlours and barber shops - in phase one is just too soon." Yep, that's right - in Turtle world even Donald Trump is a leftist hack looking for any excuse to criticise a good republican governor! Any chance you're going to cop to being flat out wrong on this one T? -
To be honest I don't think many of those that self identify as fiscal right (or many people in general) quite grasp how far right the entire world has swung in the modern era of globalisation and instant communication. The sheer scale of wealth inequality is beyond what anyone can picture or put into context. I think Oliver Stone said when he made Wall Street 2 that everyone still looks back at the '80s as this heyday of corporate greed gone mad and insane rewards for simply shifting money around but while the top brokers back then were making hundreds of millions, today the top fund managers are making tens of billions and we've all become normalised to it. Like if you present hypothetical situations such as miniscule effective tax rates for hyper-rich, staggering executive bonuses for short termist behaviour and massive golden parachutes on top when the companies fail as a result - if you don't tell people that the examples are real then pretty much everyone identifies them as unacceptable.

I am surprised they're showing Clinton to be that far to the fiscal right. Would be interesting to know what policies it is based on. Not as surprised that Trump is closer to the centre, after all a large part of his campaign was built on promises of massive public spending, but then what he says and what he does are always different, and oftentimes what he says and what he says next are so wildly different it's a bit of a fools errand to try and pin him down on anything. Would have been more interesting to have GWB up there.

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations

Settle down there Stretch Armstrong. -
Outside possibility, if it was very late January in Santa Clara county or LA county. There doesn't seem to be a documented spread of Coronavirus elsewhere in California before or at that time.

COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations
jakee replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes. I'll be honest, I don't hold out much hope for you but it's telling that even you think it's hilarious to think you could ever be reasonable. A little analogy for this situation, there's a stretch of road with a corner, a straight, and a posted 30mph speed limit throughout. A blue car goes through the corner at 25 and speeds up to 30 on the straight. A red car goes through the corner at 35 and speeds up to 40 on the straight. You are shouting at anyone who will listen that because they both sped up the two drivers are equally as bad as each other and anyone who says otherwise is a one-eyed blue car propagandist. What everyone else sees is that you're so blinded by your red car bias that you've lost the ability to think critically about anything related to driving. -

Yes, it is interesting that the journalists can recognise that the actions of the two Governors are very different yet you cannot, even when they have presented you the details. -
COVID-19: Astroturfing the "reopen" demonstrations
jakee replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Difference: The two plans are significantly different. Stop always looking at things through your 'us vs them' prism first, and think about the actual isses and details and maybe, slowly, you'll stop being a microcosm of all that is wrong with modern polarised politics. -
One man let loose with a revolver killed tens of millions of people? Sounds like a good reason to ban handguns.

I know Churchill said everyone gets more conservative when they're older but I really don't think I'll ever be as biased towards the right as you. -
