for which crimes, if any, should Trump be prosecuted?
jakee replied to SivaGanesha's topic in Speakers Corner
They already think he's a martyr for losing a rigged election. Proof is meaningless to them. Regardless, I can't think of any way that it could be good for the health of a democracy for it to be shown yet again that its leaders have immunity from the consequences of breaking any laws.- 156 replies

Should be plenty of evidence to turn him from an unindicted co-conspirator to an indicted co-conspirator in the Cohen case.- 156 replies

You'll be waiting for that for as long as you'll wait for Clinton to be extradited.

And there we have the real wet dream of the American right. Total rule by a class of elites and political insiders, because the voters can't be trusted to make their own decisions.

Zoomer Urges POS Biden to Forgive Student Debt via Exec Order...
jakee replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
What you've written in that post is driven purely by ideology and emotion rather than any fact or reason. Amidst a flurry of other posts where you're knee-jerk reacting to Biden's win by being a hyper offensive uber troll I fail to see how you think it will convince anyone of anything. -
Yes, that is one of your big problems. I definitely wouldn't say the biggest though.

Here's Charlton Heston bragging about getting Ice-T fired from a record label because he didn't like the lyrics to one of his songs. In the grand tradition of rank right wing hypocrisy it does not surprise me one bit that you idolise someone who is not only a PC warrior themselves, but was a cancel culture leader decades before it was trendy. -
You're supposed to behave like a rational adult with respect for other human beings.
-
Hey, it worked for Trump's lawyers. "We have firsthand evidence from a reliable source!...Who told another poll worker about it who repeated the claim to our witness." Oh wait... no. It didn't work for them either.

Good, because that’s already the dumbest thing I’ll read all week. Isn’t it funny how those who dismiss BLM and other social justice movements are terrified at the thought of anything which could possibly allow them to be profiled and discriminated against (no matter how laughably unlikely that is)? Imagine if you were black. Imagine if you actually were profiled in the way you just imagined, every day in every conceivable walk of life. Then imagine how righteously fucking angry you would be about that profiling really happening, given how angry you are about the profiling you just purely imagined?

Saying dumb shit is not the same as dumbing something down. Why do I have to explain that to you?

Religious Authoritarianism Has America nailed to its Cross

Hah, who knew God could be defeated by a couple of dodgy Venezuelan voting machines? -
It's your problem. In a discussion on how well different countries have fared in suppressing the spread of the virus, case fatality rate is useless and irrelevant.
-
A ) You can't. You just can't. That kind of both-siderism is just wilful ignorance of the facts. B ) Then your stated reason for voting falls flat on its face. If you claim Trump is just the same as every other Washington insider then it doesn't follow to say you voted for him because he isn;t a Washington insider.

So you want the deep state to use the EC to steal the election for Trump. Figures.
-
Yes it is. Deciding what to broadcast is very literally the job of people working in TV news.
-
I figured they'd be able to put it in terms you could follow. Seriously - if you're standing there saying you don't know the difference between remembering people and celebrating them then you're operating on a childlike level. If you're saying we're in danger of forgetting any historical figures we haven't commemorated with triumphalist statues then you're operating on a childlike level. The argument you are pushing is absurd, asinine bullshit.

Scotland at least. In the 2014 independence referendum the fact that a newly independent Scotland wouldn't automatically be a part of the EU was a major factor in turning the vote towards staying in the UK. Now that the rest of the UK is leaving the EU anyway I think the SNP have a strong case for pushing for IndyRef 2, and there's a decent chance they'd win it.

Next time I'm in a room with an elementary school kid I'm going to get them to explain to you how ridiculous that statement is.

No, but he's been saying they should continue to file those baseless lawsuits, and then pretending he didn't. It would be the height of naivety to think the one doesn't affect the other. Trump has spent years setting up a cult of personality - what he and his team says matters to his supporters. It makes a difference. Again, that's like saying we CAN'T stop the sun from coming up in the morning. Well, duh, we can't stop it from coming up even if we wanted to - it's gonna happen. Even hinting that it could be otherwise is just playing into the Trumpist conspiracy theories.

No. Not completely. Here, let me prove it: See? No, not in completeness. but you have mentioned already the parts that suffer from the same inconsistency that you're saying atheism has, and you've offered absolutely nothing to resolve that inconsistency. Which is kind of ok though because it's an inconsistency that does not, any any functional level, matter. Say you're right and the entire universe is pre-determined. So what? So morality doesn't really exist even though we think it does - well, we're just pre-determined to think that and there's nothing we can do about it anyway, so what's the problem? Then why are you dead set on defending your initial premise in this thread even though it's so clearly flawed?
-
Go on then - predict the future of a particle without measuring it first.
-
Everyone who has been paying attention knows you’re now just being a dick because you can’t defend your comments. To be clear, it would be better if Trump and the Republicans simply stopped filing baseless lawsuits backing up their baseless claims. That’s how you would end up with fewer people believing that baseless shit.

Yep, he is a buffoonish populist who is doing untold damage to the country which will continue to be felt for decades to come. But at least we have a system that stops him from being able to unilaterally do absolutely anything he wants to in terms of foreign policy.
