I want to hear your sucess story!
ZegeunerLeben replied to GravityGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
>>You made a big difference in my safety and success in this sport! Thanks! -
>>I've stopped BASE'n for now, to take a path to it more conducive to a long and healthy life, but I started out on the "Burn It All" side of the fence. We had a "Who the hell makes up all these F'n rules?" attitude about BASE, and we just did what we wanted when we wanted to do it. Dare I say, we were arrogant. >>But then I started to see how my actions were affecting others (like almost getting hookitt busted), and I started to realize that our way was selfish. The objects started to become a part of who I am, and I realized that once they were gone they were gone. Things are different now, maybe it's part of the growth process, but I was really dismayed to see that the attitudes displayed in the other thread which really angered me now were once my own.

>>I saw video recently of a self-clearing slider-up lineover, and I observed something interesting. At first, the line-over'd canopy seemed pretty tame and maybe landable, turning slowly. But then the jumper released the brakes, and the canopy took off, rotating wildly, faster and faster until the line cleared at almost the last second. >>My question is, if you don't have a hook-knife (or you drop it) and you have a slider-up line-over, is it better to try and stop the turn using risers/lines and land what you have, or pop the toggles and try and clear it? I realize one should jump with a hook-knife and either way you're in trouble, but I was curious what people think.

What does your Dz charge for a hopNpop
ZegeunerLeben replied to Rdutch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
>>Ah he's just jokin' around. He actually wanted to hook me up on 4-way to improve my skills (he's great like that, anything you want). He was wondering why so many accuracy jumps and no full alti skydives >>Ha ha I heard that one too! Another favorite was after several frustrating attempts to fix some step-thru's for some 20-odd minutes, he walks up to me and says: "You owe me 4 tickets" Me: "Huh?" Bill: "Yeah, you been messing with that canopy so long you missed the last four loads!" Have to say, a $5 skydive is the cheapest I've ever heard of. -
What does your Dz charge for a hopNpop

>>Yeah, but Bill gets annoyed with you if you don't go to the top floor every once and awhile! -
>>Yes it's just heavenly isn't it? I survived the journey up to Kneeland and am relaxing by the fire up in the Redwoods enjoying a nice glass of this years winter port, and am as far as my colleagues are concerned, unreachable. I am surrounded by friends and family and feeling quite content and best wishes to you all in the coming year! We survived!

>>That's very, very real. That can ruin your life and it's something you need to think seriously about when making the decision to go stowed
-
>>Hehehe I know some folks who do that quite regularly!
-
>>Heh, yeah it's important to have a post-jump "debriefing"
-
>>Could you? I'd love to see that. And thanks for all the dissertations you've given me!
-
>>Wow, just Wow. I can't imagine what must have been going through your mind on the way up and after you cut the rope...that's some serious commitment! I'm guessing that's a jump you'll not forget! Glad the wind didn't get ya and I hope you tipped the taxi driver well ha ha!
-
>>Thanks, I think I get the gist of it. If that's the S I'm thinking of smoking it low is a bad idea if you want to make the landing area glad he made it okay. Hope you feel better!
-
>>Is that because the combo of having deep brakes & the slider up pulls that tail down so far that the canopy can't really "fly" until you release the toggles?
-
>>Looks like you got out of one twist in time to smack the wall head-on...bummer Glad you weren't hurt too badly, but I bet that scared the hell out of you. Glad to hear you're back in the air

Best/funniest quotes from DZ.com threads!

>>Bummer man. Where in SoCal? I journey to Perris from time to time, if you're gonna be around there at all maybe I'll look you up

>>The trick is that there is no trick, no matter what the media may tell you. No secret mantra, no rules, and no road-map It's not about how smart or how good you are. It's Chaos and Luck, and all you can do is hang on madly, as long and as hard as you can.

>>Well said. But we're still skirting the true issue here and I'm sure everyone is saying to themselves: "This is all well and good, but how does this tease and/or annoy Faber?" and "If I have a blown Yonkel, will I still be able to land my tarp safely?"
-
>>So true. Some need seems to be the driving force that pulls you to it, sometimes inexplicably and uncontrolably, feeling like you've been caught by a powerful river's current that you cannot fight.
-
>>That is so true. It's almost like as you grow in the sport, and things are go well time and time again, it seems to erode your judgement to the point where you think you can get away with anything. >>Your confidence (or hubris) grows till you're trying things that you look back on after reality has smashed you apart and go "What the hell was I thinking?". It seems to me that in BASE, the biggest threat to your life you face is you.

>>Never thought I'd say this, but well said Faber!
