Where to get lots of jumps in Cali
ZegeunerLeben replied to fundgh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
>>$5 hop 'n pops @ Lodi. I've gotten six in by noon before -
>>Interesting...I've wondered what it must be like to dangle from a riser...looks like a low speed partial
-
>>Nope, I wouldn't take any sum of money to join the hardware club either...haven't been seriously injured yet but I know it's in the mail that's for sure. Hope your bones knit fast Mac!
-
>>But Faber, you got big $$$ for that injury so I can't feel that bad for you!
-
>>ha ha! using frisst was a nice touch!
-
>>Heh heh just poking a little fun! WAD jumps are actually quite safe if you can keep the pack together till launch and don't throw it...and don't hang on to it for too long. Like you said w/ no pc and no extraction there's less to go wrong. And apparently, hanging out waiting for it to turn into a big beautiful canopy is a kick in the heart ha ha! Kinda surprised it's not used more often on the low stuff.
-
>>Ahhh, WAD jumps...I believe that stands for Wild Ass Deployment doesn't it?
-
>>Ha ha! Sometimes I think experienced jumpers take on newbies just for the pack jobs! "Sure, I'll mentor you, here let me teach you to pack..."
-
>>I've packed for another, as part of the "get confident stupid" BASE packing program. Nerve racking to watch someone jump your packjob (45 left it was body position, body position I tells ya!) I guess it would depend on the individual..If you really trust the person and are willing to accept what you may get then for some it may be okay. In general, it sounds like a bad idea to me.

>>Hey 434 >>Haven't had one but I know it's in the mail so I have some questions/comments about some points you made: >>I've seen this too, sometimes people treat it like a diving exit from a plane; the down angle on launch puts them into a head-down position, and the feet on their ass serves to keep them there, until they freak and try and roll over and maybe start tumbling... >>Good advice but I'm curious about the one foot in front of the other part can you elaborate? >>At first I thought you might have meant "visualize a stable exit" but now I see you didn't. So when it happens, it sounds like you can make the situation worse by overcompensating and getting panicky, and you can make it better by feeling which way you're losing it and and adjusting your body position to compensate yes?
-
>>Actually it no longer works...if you want to jump it now you gotta work for it!
-
>>heh heh don't mind me, I'm just jealous! Anyone who can manage to actually extract money from the sport instead of having it suck your bank account dry has definitely accomplished a beer-worthy feat. Good on ya! Speaking of draining the bank account, if I see you out at Byron this weekend we'll have to toast your success!
-
>>I agree. This is extremely dangerous way to look at a terminal BASE jump; sometimes people think that because you can take a 10-15+ sec delay off an object you have plenty of time to recover from an unstable exit... >>A terminal BASE jump is not a skydive, even from 3,000ft and especially from an E...with dead air launches every little move you make in those first few seconds is accentuated, and if you lose it by the time you can grab enough air to recover it may be too late...

>>You're doomed! That's the surest sign something catastrophic is about to happen!
-
>>Yeah, kinda let the tail pocket velcro slide a little too but it's getting replaced. There's something to be said for piece of mind. Curious about how often/how much repairs are typically needed on a BASE canopy on average, and it sounds like that Fox is pretty durable.
-
>>JP those are awsome pic's, looks like you got Evan, Mike, Vic, and is that Gareth's suit on the right? And that expression on Farrah's face is priceless! Kicking myself for missing it
-
>>In your experience how often have you had to replace your tail pocket velcro? Lately I've been worried that line dump before stretch could cause all sorts of problems that WLO's might not clear on sldr up's. Since you've been crashin' and bangin' that Fox sldr off, have you ever had any problems with the tail pocket?

>>If it's a skydiving paycheck then it's probably not enough for beer! ha ha

>>A while back a friend of mine organized a charity event called skydive for the kids where he made 50 hop 'n pops in one day (not alot compared to the new record, but not easy either). He was able to raise $14,000 for Children's Hospital of Oakland and had the event plastered all over the local papers. The response was great, and people started coming out to local DZ's to do tandems. There are things one can do to bring positive attention to skydiving, but it's alot tougher to try and sell skydiving for sure.

>>I like the new format a great deal, seperating out the political threads seems to have cleared the air and made this a more comfortable place to be. Plus talkback was swamped with threads and a new thread could dissapear in a matter of an hour if it didn't get posted to right away. Now maybe they'll linger a bit longer

a feeling of faint under an open canopy...
ZegeunerLeben replied to Kuper's topic in Safety and Training
>>I knew a jumper a few who years back who was seriously injured (think life flight) after passing out under canopy. If this gets to the point where it's impairing your ability to land safely, you may wish to consider consulting a physician. -
>>Who's to say that even if you go to BliNC to ask questions you're going to get any kind of help outside of helpful moderators?
-
>>Made my first night jump about a month ago and it was spectacular. As others have said you'll probably be going solo. One thing I discovered if you have a glow in the dark alti is that they (or at least mine did) lose their glow intensity after a time out of the light. From what I understand, they need light to "charge". So next time I do one I plan to hold a flashlight up to it for a while before I go out to get my night vision...being halfway through the jump with the alti jammed in your face wondering "does that say 4 grand?" wasn't my proudest moment
-
>>heh heh. Heard about that...but hey that was a non-black ops mission so it doesn't count! Geez you didn't just borrow a packed rig to get up and get off did you oh and if it's not a 2 hr climb it doesn't count either!
-
>>I'm not an experienced BASEr, but I you must be having an easier time getting into this than most. I had to troll the DZ for weeks before I found someone who would even talk to me about it. Then I had to pay my dues, working GC for months, shivering in the dark under a tower at 2am with no possiblilty of a jump, running interference etc. Then weeks of tracking dives/canopy drills/accuracy and then finally I found someone willing to give me packing lessons. It's a long road, at least for me perhaps other have had it easier. Good luck to you.
