  1. ...seems reasonable advice given jump #, current canopy and wingloading... Nothing wrong with bringing it up! Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  2. Well I deliber8ted for a while, and formul8ted... Domin8 Replic8 Check Mate (M-8?) Fall Rate (R-8) My favor8 though is...conjug8... To join together
  3. Thanks... I was also having a hard time visualising it but that explained it really clearly.
  4. In the case of an adult, especially someone in a position of responsibilty, having a (consentual) relationship with a child...I think the crime should be regarded as equally wrong regardless of the sex of the offender/victim ... but the damage (to the victim) as a result of the crime *may* be less in this case. Do you punish the crime? Or the result of the crime? Is a woman less likely to reoffend? Is she less of a 'predator' than a male teacher in a similar situation? Quite possibly. Very difficult but I think treating it differently because the teacher was female sends the wrong message and further reinforces the inequality. But I could see how easily it could be argued that the crime (based on society's views of sex) is different. Yeah, I really can't come up with a better answer than that Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  5. I think there's a big difference between pushing someone out before they have spotted and decided to jump and giving a 'nudge' to experienced jumpers who have already climbed out and taken grips for exit but are having a brain fart about how to exit an aircraft!! One is stupid/dangerous and would piss people off ... the other is funny Its all about context. Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  6. Assuming you are USPA it's all in the IRM http://www.uspa.org/publications/manuals.pdf/2006IRMEssentials.pdf (Page 18 of 30) Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  7. Any accident on a DZ sucks but just because you felt that nobody seemed to care it doesn't mean it was actually that way! Accidents do happen and the best response is a calm professional one. During and just after an accident there is usually alot going behind the scenes. The staff are busy seeing to the jumper, calling an ambulance and speaking to the jumpers family etc. Until the jumper has gone to hospital and been properly assessed DZ staff can only guess at what the injuries are. Initially there is nothing to be gained by involving you or discussing the accident with tandem customers, new jumpers or anyone who isn't directly involved. There is nothing worse than everyone running around panicking and starting rumors. Once the facts are known then there may well be lessons that can be learned and your instructors should be happy to talk to you about what you can learn from the incident. But immediately after the accident is not the time for that. What seemed like a cold or uncaring response was quite possibly a calm professional response in the immediate time after the accident. I expect that had you stuck around or gone back the following weekend you would have heard the full story once all the facts were known. I've never been on a DZ and felt that people didn't care when one of us gets hurt... You'll probably find the jumper had lots of visitors in hospital from the DZ over the following days
  8. HC32 instructions - checkout the trouble shooting pages at the end... http://www.starbatteries.com/starbattery/sodcmihacaow.html Check your display is set to lcd and not V-out (in play/edit mode go PMenu>display) What are you getting on the hc32 screen when you connect to the second camera? Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  9. What's prejudiced about asking if staff at a DZ in Mexico speak English? Certainly preferable to *expecting* everyone everywhere to speak English! None of the original posters questions implied an "adverse judgement" about the DZs there... I think you're reading things into the questions that aren't there! Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  10. Interesting thread... in order Cleaning up dog poop at a dog boarding kennels Putting plastic lids on cartons of cream Putting CD cases together and putting the CDs in them Butchers assistant Store assistant in a pharmacy Pharmacist (Retail) Pharmacist (Hospital) Full time skydiver Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  11. Depends how high the tide is!! At the highest tides there really is very little beach and the palm trees that over hang create some challenging target practice! When the tide is really high a 500 jump number limit is in place (I think I remember that right) For less extreme high tides usually it'll be at the jumpers discretion if they want to land at the golf course, land on the beach or just sit it out. The pilot just does a split load, 1st group(s) over the golf course the rest over the beach. It's pretty ego-free!!
  12. Get a dog Seriously... Did you ask the pound what they are doing? Did he escape from there or what? Gotta admire his determination! I say feed him and adopt him... he obviously likes ya!
  13. Immigrants learning English (or American!) as a second language seem to have a better grasp of the language than many natives I propose a one in / one out policy... for every potential immigrant who can prove that they intend to be hard working, tax paying, law abiding citizens... they get to come in... in return we send out one tax dodging, benefit dependant lazy person. The reciprocal country doesn't provide much in`the way of social security so it shouldn't cost them anything, the 'exchanged' person gets a whole new view of the world and the new immigrant gets a chance they wouldn't have in their country of birth. When they (people who leave) appreciate what they had here that they've been abusing for so long they can apply to come back... along with the other immigrants... I'm using 'we' and 'here'...I'm not from the US but this applies equally to the UK... Ok so it'd probably never work but I can think of lots of @$$holes that abuse the system within their own country and yet are the first to complain about 'foreigners' taking their jobs/housing etc Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  14. You forgot the "my friends and instructors say no but I'm going to ask people who've never met me anyway... should I downsize to a tiny canopy now that I have a handful of jumps on my boring old canopy and I am a real safe / conservative / good canopy pilot / never gonna get hurt" Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  15. Hey you'd better come see us at SNE (Lebanon) too Jeff
  16. Kenya boogie is awesome... www.skydivekenya.com no minimum license required to jump but there will be a period most days where there will a jump number limit on beach landings due to high tide. Tide times are usually posted at manifest so you can plan your day and take a break to miss the worst of it. There is a golf course that is used when the beach isn't suitable. There's a good mix of skill levels from AFF students to top notch organisers and everything in between.
  17. Interesting idea... however in the case of a 2 out isn't it better to have similar sized main/reserve canopies? Sticking with one sized reserve throughout your progressions would make it likely that at some point you have a big difference between the two. Also at some point it's gonna start to look real ugly when you have a 'student' sized reserve sat on top of your teeny hot canopy... might make head down easier though!!
  18. I've done more in 2006.... I may be blonde but I can count!! Sex Ed available on request Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  19. 220 AFF and 24 tandems including the course. AFF on 3 different continents though! I love my job! Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  20. Are you planning on jumping or just travelling? What kind of things interest you? Give us some more clues what kind of trip you're wanting to do and I'm sure you'll get more relevant suggestions. If I had to choose somewhere to recommend.. Czech Republic would be it. Prague is really really beautiful, enough there to see to easily fill a week or two. Might be a bit cold at this time of the year but you'll avoid the main tourist season. It's still cheap compared to other places in Europe but nowhere near as cheap as the rest of Czech Republic. A few hours away by bus is KarlovyVary which is another very pretty place and less of a tourist trap. Great beer, fantasic history and old buildings, food can be a bit so-so but hey you can't have it all!
  21. Buy beer Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  22. The original poster is in the US... there the AFF is 7 jumps minimum. Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
  23. Recycle all the beer bottles and cans on the DZ at the end of the weekend... that should earn you lots of good eco-karma Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things!
