dont forget it will be the first time youve bought beer........ .....BEER!! MGD for me mmmmmm cold and fresh like an autumn spring...
-
everytime youve done something you havent done before, you buy a case of beer for US to share!!. ie first jump, first naked jump, 50 jumps, 100 jumps, 200 jumps, first DC3 jump, first rig, first broken bone etc etc......
-
after throwing yourself out of airplanes for the first few times the last thing you'll want to do is go clubbing!! you-WILL-be-knackered doing AFF, you'll just want to kick back and watch the sunset with a cold beer. Oh, and just before this post becomes mundane.......BOOBIES!

hhhhssshh, they dont know who i really am. To fall slower you have to track faster. You track slower you fall faster. So i wanna go faster. Unless i can figure out a way of tracking close to the speed of light im pretty sure time will be a constant. Exit Alt is the same for both racers, and they must stop tracking at 4'500. Whoever has tracked furthest from the exit point wins. There is no time limit on the race, or as you like to put it, "time is not constant"

speed of the horizontal variety is what i require. It is a "who can track best", ie cover the most horizontal distance in a given time. But since a higher horizontal speed would surely equate to the amount of horizontal distance covered for a constant time, i would say its kinda both? you obviously have no grasp of the laws of physics William, so heres the formula for tracking. Anymore suggestions on better tracking?? Either to track faster or to cover more distance.....??

I have no idea what your talking about....honest Usually i track with shoulders up and rolled forward, like i have no neck, hands faced down. Legs sligthly apart, pointy toes, and slightly de-arching. Im quite a lightweight, (140 lbs naked) and am curious to whether this is an advantage??

The Pilotchute came from Wings. I specifically asked for a 24" ZP. Ive tested to see how the apex compares to the skirt and it is about 1.5" below the skirt when held upside down. Ive measured the diameter of the pilotchute when laid out flat, and it measures 22". ?????

We're having a tracking comp next weekend. I want to win. How do i go about this in a "blow-everyone-out-of-the-water" kind of way?? I consider myself average at tracking but want some tips. PS. No booties or track pantz allowed. PSS ive done a search but want more info!!

i looked through the search results and found this: *** Go with manufacturers recommendation. But, if you get given or find something that works for you. Stick with that. I now favour the old, 'if it's not broke don't fix it' rule. I say this becasue I had an interesting experiment with pilotchute size. I fly a Cobalt 135. I was using the the standard 28" ZP pilotchute that came with my container. Out of about 20 jumps, 16 or 17 would be beautiful. I'd get the very occasional brisk opening and a few off headers. Pretty good stats considering all the variables that come into play at opening time. But I thought I could get 20 out of 20 picture perfect with the recommended pilot chute (22" ZP). So I put a new 22" ZP PC on and wham. I got a noticeable delay in bag liftout and then 3 absolute slammers. I tried dumping slow, fast and in a track. Same thing, hesy then whack. Why? Who knows. I put my old 28" back on and am enjoying lovely two stage openings again. If the occasional one is brisk and a few are off heading that's fine.Quote On my second jump i also had an unusually hard opening (my neck is hurting now) but have no idea why it happened. Im also realising now that my canopy/container choice may be the cause. Im jumping a Wings W5 (should fit 100-120sqft) with a 135. Is the the bag getting stuck in the corners of the container??? This would explain things. Is there a different way i can pack my container so the bag is extracted easier?? (Yes, i know your gonna flame me about bad kit combination)

wow, awesome video. gives me butterflies

I jump an Atair Cobalt and have read on numerous occasions Atair recomends a 22" PC for a 135sqft canopy, and i seem to remember a 20" for sub 120???? Annnyway... Ive got a new rig, and jumped it for the first time today. and when ordering a rig i stated i wanted a 22" PC. After a chat with the manufacturer i decided to go with a 24" ZP collapsable Pilotchute, a size bigger than Atair recomends. So i dump at 3500 like usual and wait. and wait a bit more. hhhm getting nervous now, doesnt usually take this long..............pooof, canopy starts opening. I would say it took around 3 seconds, 4 at the most, before i felt anything. So i jumped it again to make sure it wasnt a hesitation or what not. Same again, about 3 seconds (i counted this time) from lobbing the pc to feeling any sort reaction (ie risers lifting off my back) Any thoughts?? new PC needed??

Rob Harris died during the filming of commercial. The exact circumstances im not sure about, but from what ive read lead me to believe a main/reserve entanglement. I may be wrong. This is from another website about Patrick... In order to improve his efficiency, he had designed a kind of deflector he could fix on the bottom of his main container, as shown on our photograph. That deflector filled the pit of his back, allowing a continuous airflow. This allowed him to improve his performance by 10% with his wingsuit. The deflector was made of cordura and filled with foam. Inside it, he had managed some place for the pilot chute. The deflector was removable : on the bottom, it was maintained in place by a zipper ; on top, the deflector had two large line laces : one on the left of the deflector, and one on the right. The laces went through openings he had prepared in each upper corner of the main container. Those laces therefore went under the side flaps, approximately one inch, before coming under the protection of a velcroed flap. To make a small modification to the deflector, Patrick had disassembled then reassembled it without opening the main container. During reassembling, one of the laces went through two lines of the main canopy. Patrick pulled his pilot chute below 2000 ft, probably even lower. The pilot chute went up, as normal opening the flaps. The main canopy deployment bag, however, could not go up and open, since it was linked with two lines by the deflector lace. Patrick cut away and opened his reserve. The pilot chute and the deployment bag of the reserve canopy got entangled with those of the main canopy. Both deployment bags floated behind his back and never opened. He didn't have an AAD which wouldn't have made a difference anyway. He was found with both handles in his hands. He hadn't disconnected the wings of his wingsuit. If he had, or had had the time to, the absence of more or less stretched wings might have allowed a more direct airflow, hence less depression in the back. The reserve might have found a small chance to go up without getting entangled with the pilot chute and the deployment bag of the main canopy. BSBD

how much does it cost for a rigger to install a cypress?
rmcvey replied to Rookeskydiver's topic in Gear and Rigging
If the rigs cypress ready, and is not packed, read the manual thoroughly and give it a go yourself. Just make sure your rigger knows so they can give it a check. -
Jeeez, you Tandem Instructors! Post the whole picture as its hard to see whats happening. It looks like the drogue release handle. When you pull this handle, the drogue which helps keep the tandem stable in freefall (amongst other things) collapses, pulls the container open, and pulls the bag (with parachute inside) out into the airflow. Its a teflon cable with a small plastic tube at one end for grip. Its hard to explain without showing you a tandem rig.

?? feel free to explain?? Anyway, getting back to the question, There may be a problem with the gear. Im guessing someone inspected the main after the chop, if so, was the canopy definately not to blame? Because it originally was posted in the Greets Forum. J Sorry!!
-
thanks. i was thinking it might have been to do with the different focal length. The one with flare was cheaper than the one without.

ive just purchased 0.5 and a 0.45 lens. The 0.5 suffers alot more flare than the 0.45. Can someone explain??

I can't express how glad I am people like you have started posting on dropzone.com you make this place so much better than it was 3 years ago when jumpers were freindly and considerate towards one another, and were happy to agree to disagree, and share knowlede, and not feel the need to lower the thread to whuffo talk.

I know two people who expirenced problems with the Raynox, saying it couldnt handle rapid temperature change. On the way down it would always fog up right in the centre of the lens, like condensation. Would be intersted to know if anyone else has expierenced this on a raynox lens or any other make?????

I got the impression from a friend who recently went, they are pretty "safety concious", for want of a better word. with FF1 dont expect to get on a 8 way headdown dive, but im sure you can do smaller stuff with other suitably qualified jumpers. I think a high number of AFF grads wanted to jump (exuse pun) straight into freeflying after consoles, so they wanted some method of controling who could do what. Ask the instructors there, mr.meacock will be your best bet, about if you even need a checkout jump. Dont forget you cypress!!

Tandem passanger's reaction?
rmcvey replied to deaffreeflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
tandem students throwing up in freefall is good, closely followed by students throwing up under canopy. -
i tried it but when i lifted the seat the cat was gone? ive not seen him since? how the hell he get out ?

here is an age old recipe for "frampton fingers" it will toughen them didgits up in no time. Step 1. take 1/2 a bottle of tequila and add one whole lime (un-peeled). add two teaspoons of ketchup and a good dash of tobasco. step 2 heat up in microwave until hot (but dont let it boil) Step 3 take out of microwave and place fingers of left hand into the mixture while standing on one leg (right leg works best) while holding the guitar in your right hand. take hand out of the broth and procede in drinking it while humming "show me the way" by peter frampton. after drinking immediately play guitar for 30 minutes. Wallla!! Framptons Fingers! if this doesnt work let me know, ive got a smokin' recipe for "hendrix hands" happy strumming!
