  1. Anything above a grand I'm going for my main. Do you wear a AAD? I just feel 1000 feet is to close to the activation height of my particular AAD. ie 750ft. Also ive had an 800ft opening on my main. let me know your thoughts.
  2. Why is the logo on the stabiliser of my cobalt peeling off after only 50 jumps? Is this a unique comedy design feature to confuse other jumpers into thinking i jump a oblt 135.? Ps. its never gotten wet. Oh and by the way i love the canopy apart from this minor malfuntion.
  3. While we're on the subject, what altitude does everyone consider high/low enough to go for the silver instead of the main in an aircraft emergencey? Like someone said, some canopies are slow openers so im guessing heights vary, but would like to here some opinions.
  4. I think also there is a point in skydiving where your stuck between student status and being experienced enough to try new stuff. Ive started head-up stuff with a coach when i was in the states a few weeks back, but now im back in rainy england money and the WEATHER (you brits know what i mean) 4 jumps a week is good going. Im not experienced enough to BASE, skysurf, jump camera, instruct, etc. and over here jumps are so much more expensive ($24 in your money) that coaching can take up a lot of cash. So your stuck doing solo sit, flat stuff (which when your jumpship only fits 5 max is pretty limited) or 2way sit if you can find another freak. Oh, well, it could be worse, i could not be skydiving at all so i may as well count my blessings. BSBD
  5. O.K., so I did my 100th jump a few weeks back, and im real sorry to say that the amazing feeling we all know and love has started to fade to the point where, during the week when im not jumping i get really moody. Its even got to where as soon as i get home from the dz i can feel a empty feeling iv never had before. Earlier on in skydiving i could do one jump a weekend and be
  6. oh dear... i found myself beginning to drowl while reading your post. Oh well, a spectre 150 @ 1:1 will have to do........ .... for now! (/evil laugh) BSBD
  7. I have just watched my rigger assemble a kill line pilotchute and bridle for me. The point where the bridle is attached to the base of the pilotchute goes like this: Where the bridle halves split, they were passed through the base of the pilotchute, folded back inside/alongside themselves and a line of stitching on each side. The area of bridle folded over and stitched is approx an inch long. Please reassure me this is gonna stay put. The kill line and bag attachment look ok. I would hate for my rigger to find out i was doubting their handy work but it just doesnt look "sturdy" Other bridles i have seen have a square piece of reinforcement tape stitched around the attachment i have described above. Also, what kind of force is transmitted through a bridle on deployment?

    FreeFlying

We dont know your expierience level, so lets just presume you have a "sensible" number of jumps, and are competent flying belly to earth. I'll also presume you have suitable equipment for falling faster and in the different positions assosiated with sit/head flying. If none of the above apply, be patient and wait untill the above do. Plan 1.The easiest and cheapest way to learn sit flying is to find someone really good, who flies camera, and can cope with your inexpierence, and get them to jump with you. You can pay them, offer them food, sexual favours, whatever, just get them to jump with you, and spend the whole jump trying you sit. Get down, pack, watch the video and listen to what people have to say. Plan 2. Get out last on the load if possible,on your own, and from your belly position, in one smooth action, stick your arms out behind you as far as possible and bring your knees into your chest. This is pretty primitive but you cant expect a much more on your first few. Master this "knees tucked in" position first, until you can hold it all the way down to pull time. Just make sure your last out the plane and youll be ok. Know use this basic knees up position as your new "nuetral" position. what i mean by this is if you feel yourself go unstable in future, go back to this position. Practice at home. From now on after this you will NEVER go back to your belly on a freefly jump. EVER. Your either belly flying or sit flying. NOT both. Remember this it may save your life one day. Now from here, while still jumping on your own and being last out the plane, bit by bit progress towards a more "conventional" sit position. ie knees spread 45 degrees apart, knees bent at 90 degrees and arms like you have your arms around two people either side of you for a photo. (ie shoulder height, elbows slightly bent, hands level with nipples) When you have done maybe 20 solo jumps and feel 100% you will never have to retreat onto your belly again to gain stability, then you are ready to do a 2 way with someone with someone you trust can keep you BOTH safe, (ie they can deal with your zooming around) You take it from there yourself. Dont get on jumps YOU know your not ready for. And stick with expierenced jumpers, alot safer and youll learn faster. Hope this helps a bit. Just remember. safe safe safe safe. keep it safe.
  9. [[[[[[[These techniques have been made popular by constant nagging from Brian Germain. The most important part is that the webbing of the pilot chute is pulled out of the apex before folding. It's a very simple procedure that almost guarantees that horseshoes will not happen. It's also critical that you not stow the excess bridle inside the pilot chute. It needs to be folded alongside the pilotchute. Both these techniques ensure that the pilot chute will be easily extracted from the BOC by a deploying main.]]]]]]]]]]]] ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; wait a minute, this sounds like the complete OPPOSITE to the way i pack my pc. I lay it out flat bridle side up. S fold the bridle in one half of the laid out pc. fold the pc in half, then fold the sides in until its a rectangular shape fold it in half length ways ant pop it in. am i going to die? please explain a better way.
  10. I read a story of a guy losing his helmet at pull time. The helmet landed in a pig farm, the helmet survived but the pigs chewed up BOTH his dytters. L&B replaced them both free of charge because of the remarkable circumstances. So next time you need a new protrack, feed your old one to your dog/pig/goldfish.

  17. has anyone seen a fully enclosed helmet designed for a stills camera?? if not why? would this be too cumbersome, or is it only me that looks at a stills camera on a helmet and thinks ooooh could be nasty. any thoughts?
  18. I use a PD126 R and I weigh maybe 150lbs with gear. My reserve was made in 1997 (June I think). Does my reserve meet the TSO-C23d??? and if not is there any other differences between mine and the PD reserves made today? Also what is I-beam construction? Rob
  19. Im thinking of getting an RSL, is this a good idea or what??? Any thoughts?
  20. So after setting a small aperture how would you set the focus before you get in the plane (or before exit) Do you leave it on manual focus or what? Im confused now. I know how to change aperture and shutter settings, I have an EOS, after setting the apeture to eg. 16 in the aperture priority mode, would I switch to manual focus and this would work ok, Or am i way off? help......!! (Dont worry I dont actually jump camera, im just intersested in skydiving related photography)

  22. hi guys, sorry to bother you so early in the morning, but ive some questions which are bugging me. When referring to SLR cameras and the like, I understand shutter speeds and aperture settings and how the relate to one another, Im no expert but ive got a grasp of the basic fundementals of how a camera works. BUT...... this has always bothered me.... I think some people refer to this as having the focus on infinity, but how do you set you camera so that close up objects (ie skydivers) are in focus, but so is everything else behind in the shot (ie the horizon 50 miles away) Is this a depth of field thing? please help ive had no sleep for the past 14 days trying to figure this out and my sanity is starting to slip. giraffe anybody? or maybe a nice peice of trout. Nervous?

My first 20-30 jumps I felt exactlly the same. Whats difficult to see when you dont have that many is that it DOES get better. Look back when you have 50 jumps and you'll understand. It never goes away but youll gradually, jump by jump, feel more relaxed and comfortable in the plane, (no sweaty palms, or cold sweats!!) I have 68 now and love the plane ride. Some it takes 30 jumps till their happy, others 200. It varies from one person to the next. But stick with it, and breeeeeeeathe...... BSBD
