DZ.com Record Attempt at Raeford Parachute Center

Coconut Monkey, Sounds like a good plan. I'll think it over. Steve1 -
Okay, okay, I'm not an alcoholic, but most my relatives are. I'm really a school counselor who hopes to retire in about seven years. Most people my age already have their 25 years in at a school. I spent too many years working as a timber faller in the woods. After I retire I hope to pursue a career as a porn star. Steve1

Hi, I'm Steve and I'm an alcoholic. Someday I hope to be a gynecologist.

Clay, There is a lot of friendly people in North Dakota. I grew up in Western Montana, and most people there used to be friendly also. Then hoards of people started moving in and things started getting crowded. After a while people wouldn't even wave back to you when you met them on the road. Then I moved to Eastern Montana. What a difference. It's like a different culture. People there will go out of there way to BS with you, or help you out. It's the same way in North Dakota. Lot's of friendly people who you can depend on when you need help. I've told my share of North Dakota Jokes over the years, and I feel a litlle guilty now..........Does anyone out there tell Montana jokes? Steve1

Can a Person Jump With (set but) Broken Bone?
steve1 replied to Airhead's topic in Safety and Training
Airhead, Actually I'm a pretty tame person today. I used to be a lot crazier than I am now. Luckily my wife came along. She won't let me do anything too dangerous any more. I had a hard time convincing her to let me skydive. Steve1 -
Can a Person Jump With (set but) Broken Bone?
steve1 replied to Airhead's topic in Safety and Training
This is getting way off the subject, but I used to know a bull rider who broke his foot riding bulls. When the Doctor put a cast on his foot he also molded in one of his spurs so he could continue riding bulls. And some people think that skydivers are crazy.....you should meet some cowboys I've known. Actually there is a lot of similarity Steve1 -
Christina, Sounds like a great plan. I had a friend who was an engineer. He too hated his job and moved to California where he opened a car body repair business. He loved cars. He later became a multi-millionare and even raced cars against Paul Newman. When I knew him as a kid his Dad raised sheep and they were pretty broke most of the time. Well anyway he followed his heart and things paid off for him. That was until his wife caught him messing around on her and shot him in the crotch with a 357. He bled to death, but that's another story. I wish it had a happier ending. But anyhow, I'd say go for it. You can always go back to being and engineer. Steve1

It very well could be, I just can't recall his name. He was telling me about a trip he made to Germany a while back to jump. He usually parks his truck at the DZ in Perris. He's kind of a loud talkative kind of guy. Steve1

I'd love to come but my wife has me on a very short leash. About all I've been doing for fun lately is sitting home and thinking about how broke I am with two kids in college. Some day I'm going to make that trip. Steve1 -
I sometimes jump in Minot. I met a trucker, biker, in Perris the past two Christmases. He's from the Fargo area. I can't recall his name but he's about 6'2", very short hair, around 30 to 40, and has arms about the size of my legs. I also know another blonde headed guy who jumps there his name is Craig. He's a farmer from Bismark. As you can tell I have a keen memory for names. Any of this sound familiar. Steve1

I know this may be a poor choice of camera for sky diving purposes, but I'm trying to make do with what I already have. But anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to attach a wide angle lens onto a Sony, Handicam, Hi-8, video-camera? Thanks, Steve1

Can a Person Jump With (set but) Broken Bone?
steve1 replied to Airhead's topic in Safety and Training
I have jumped with my arm in a cast. I'm sure there are some safety issues involved to this, such as being able to pull handles and so forth. Things may not heal properly if you use a broken limb too much also. I knew a guy who ran a cat with a broken arm. When he went in to get it checked out it hadn't healed because he was stressing his fracture too much. I've also rode broncs with my free arm in a cast and ran a chain saw in the woods. Like I was saying I may be old but I never said I was smart. Steve1 -
Clay, That might be true. I know that I need to let them out further on my hornet. It works fine until I go to use front risers and it starts bucking. Right now they are a couple inches longer than the factory setting, but I need to let them out a few more inches. Steve1

I started out with a couple of Falcons. I think they are very similar to a PD. I weigh about 175 so I was loading my 195 at about 1:1. I was able to stand up most of the landings, but some of these were fairly hard, so I wouldn't want to go any smaller on a f-111 canopy. I still jump my Falcon 235. It has well over a thousand jumps on it and still works great. I'm waiting for the day it blows up, but right now it works great for a back up rig. There's not a single hole in it and the larger dacron lines seem to be in good enough shape. And I like that saying. "You don't quit playing because you get old. You get old because you quit playing." Steve1

I went fishing in Norther Saskatchewan once. It's thick timber with lakes and rivers everywhere. But the Southern portion is mostly prairie. Let's hope his balloon doesn't go North. Steve1

Anyone have experience with bad dog services ?
steve1 replied to Cornholio's topic in Gear and Rigging
I bought a pair of risers from him. Due to my own ignorance they didn't fit. I wasn't sure if he would take them back, but he did with no problem. He seems like a great guy. Steve1 -
Things are certainly stricter now. We used to jump into our old campus oval all the time. (About 30 years ago). It was fairly tight and almost no outs, and most of us didn't even have a license. In fact I made my 100th jump into it. Today to make this same jump, (I think) you have to have a PRO rating. Steve1

Clay, I take mine hunting. When the oldest was about eleven we crawled up on a herd of antelope. We could only get about 400 yards from them. They were spread out across a big sage brush flat. So I told her to pick out a big one and try a shot. She had a bipod on her 243. I told her to hold a little over the top of it's back. She fired and it went right down. When we walked up on it, not one but two bucks were laying there. That was the reason it looked so big to her. She got two with one shot. The youngest one shot a nice Whitetail buck last year. And yes, I sometimes shop with them. If you're doing something that makes them happy you don't mind all that much. Steve1

I remember when B.J.Worth graduated from college in Missoula, Mt., he jumped into his graduation wearing his cap and gown. Sounds like a cool thing to try. Steve1

Deuce, What a couple of cute little girls! Enjoy them now. They grow up way too fast. I always figured I wanted a boy, but then I figured I might be able to make Tomboys out of them. I only had limited success at that. So far they are both interested in jumping. The oldest has made one tandem. They both were going to make a tandem out of a Caravan a couple weeks ago, but we got weathered out. Steve1

Sebazz, Come to Montana again and we'll go catch some. Steve1

Deuce, A lot of people here in Montana keep a bear gun. I just bought a 12 gauge pump, 3inch magnum with a short barrel, "boy" gun. I guess I can still talk tough, even though I'm getting old and wore out. Steve1
-
Clay, No they're little brookies. They have lots of color like cut throat though. I have some more pictures but I'm still figuring out how to scan them. And yes I do keep the daughters locked in the closet much of the time. Steve1

Here's a picture of my kids with their fish. We could have caught lot's more, but only kept enough for supper. I hope this turns out. I'm still figuring out how to run a scanner. Steve1
