    Speeding

The left lane is the slow lane. Unless you're a funny foreigner.
  2. I'd give this thread until the end of the day before it gets locked.
  3. You could stub a finger pressing the red key. And they told you to do it. Have they considered that?
  4. Already? But... but... it feels like summer's only just started. In fact, it feels like no time at all since I was celebrating the shortest day. Be nice if we could slow this stuff down a bit. They keep talking about introducing double British summer time. I'd vote for that.
  5. Too bad. I said I don't drink. I didn't say I didn't find it wildly entertaining to watch others do so. No offense mate, but I think this legislation made your country just a bit more stuffy. Well, at the risk of sending this thread to SC, the government that introduced this law (and many, many others during its term) is no more. So hopefully there'll be a bit of dialling back on all the 'nanny state' legislation going forward. But as I read it, they're only clamping down on organised/ commercially promoted drinking games. As far as I know it's still ok for a group of friends to sit around and drink themselves silly using whatever rules they like. At least it had better be. Other side of the coin: I was surprised to be stopped from playing cards in a US airport - can't remember which (Pittsburgh, maybe?) - on the basis that we might appear to be gambling.
  6. Just so you know, I'd never heard of this tradition either. We're not actually all running around the country shouting 'What ho!' and tossing beer-soaked rags at one another.
  7. Actually I think that's a blow to the back of the neck. Neither is recommended, but if you punch a woman in the ass I doubt it'd go down too well. And don't I remember telling you somewhere to be careful when you finally got back in the air? Oh, I see what you did now. Donkey/ ass. Sorry.
  8. What's that loop attached to the bottom of his fin? Not being a diver, I don't know whether that's standard or not.
  9. Ah, gotcha. If that's what was meant, makes a lot more sense.
  10. To me that sounds dangerous in itself. In all the tracking dives I've been on, one of the jobs of the 'rabbit' has been to try and keep all the trackers within roughly the same airspace, by adjusting the speed and fall rate to be within everyone's range. On breakoff everyone tracks away from the centre (albeit a moving centre) in much the same way as on a regular dive. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but your method seems to rely on some people being better trackers than others, and for separation to occur gradually over the course of the dive. Doesn't that mean that at pull time you may have no idea where the hell everybody is?
  11. Not sure about casting, but I nominate Michael Bay to direct. Nobody does noisy, dumb spectacle like him.
  12. Yep, that's one of many lies they tell little kids! It's a nice sentiment, but a lot harder to live by than it is to say.
  13. I prefer 'dramazone.com'. That nickname's certainly been earned over the years! Regarding intelligence, most people in this world seem to think that most other people are more stupid than they are. Some of these people are wrong. If skydivers are more intelligent than the average (and I'm not convinced they are), then it's because skydiving costs money - and in general, better educated people have more of it.
  14. One of the consolations of having zero interest in football is that I don't need to be ashamed of 'my' team . Even if I was interested, it's not like it's me out there on the pitch. Which is probably for the best!
  15. I've ended up shooting one dog - because I'd accidentally kicked it while in a fist fight with someone else, after which it wouldn't stop biting me! Felt bad about it, though, which is testament to the way the game draws you in. On the whole I'm really impressed by the sheer ambition of RDR. I think they've overreached themselves slightly in places, and of course it suffers from the same little glitches that mar all games - but given the constraints of the current technology it's an awesome achievement.
  16. Yeah, and if you don't hand it to us, we'll just take it from you.
  17. I dreamed last night I was eating a giant marshmallow. This morning I couldn't even find my pillow.
  18. Al, when it comes to rugby players I think all bets are off - random public nakedness seems to be the norm. I hear the same applies to certain elements of the Netheravon jump fraternity.
  19. Don't think we have fraternities or sororities in the UK - belonging to a hall of residence was the closest I got. I guess that was similar, but not so cliquey or demanding. And no paddling!
  20. Damn. At least it looks like the damage was fairly minor. Still sad to see a Stearman upside down though. The only good way to see one in that position is a few thousand feet up when you're falling away from it.
  21. Glad to hear so many people bashing these shows. I find 90% of TV broadcasting insults my intelligence - but banality, sorry 'reality', shows are top of the list. Unfortunately they're cheap to make and they do attract a big audience. They also spawn other shows about them, hugely profitable phone polls, and new 'celebrities' about which yet more inane shows can be made. In other words - if you're a TV company executive, what's not to like? I'm afraid the makers of these shows will laugh at your small-scale rebellion.
  22. Christ, that looks like the best identity theft/ stalker aid yet!
  23. Don't exaggerate. I've told you a million times.

    Earthquakes

Um, have you got a particular magnitude in mind? Even in the UK, I've 'experienced' a couple of earthquakes, although they were so minor (and/ or we were so far from the epicentre) that they were barely perceptible.
  25. Not to diminish this thread at all, but it's funny how our view of military history gets distilled to a relatively small number of significant dates and battles. So World War 2 = the invasion of Poland, the Battle of Britain, the Blitz, Pearl Harbour, the Battle of Midway, Stalingrad, D-Day and so on. I think as a result a great deal of personal heroism and sacrifice has been overshadowed by these big Hollywood-friendly events. Here's to everyone who made those sacrifices on D-Day (and during well over a year of subsequent fighting), but also those whose deeds are less well documented by popular history.
