  1. First you need to post a picture of your self so we can make proper recommendations as to where you should be jumping. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  2. If you were a resident of Canada I would say that you definitely need a CSPA membership. BUT as as you are not going to be a resident, just a visitor then you are probably best to check with the DZ. In my experience visiting jumpers with USPA memberships have no problems. I just can't speak to the issue of BPA and how the liability insurance associated with it works in Canada. If you are planning on getting a USPA membership, you should be OK but then I'm not a DZO. Best to check with them. As for the provincial association, membership is voluntary. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  3. There are 4 good dropzone in Alberta Rob mentioned Beiseker and it is indeed a great place to jump and close to Calgary. The other dropzone in the south is at Innisfail, which is closer to Red Deer and it is also a great place to jump. I've jumped at both and both are good places. If you're in the Edmonton area again there are 2 dropzones, one at Westlock and the other close to Stony Plain. Again, I've jumped at both and again both are good places. All of these dropzones and all are good places, staffed by good people. Each has its own vibe. You'll have to try them all to see which fits you best! Each of these is listed in the Dropzones database here on dz.com BTW, Alberta is a bit unique in that it has a provincial skydiving association whose purpose is "To promote and facilitate the development of skydiving in Alberta" http://www.aspa.ca Feel free to contact me when you're in Calgary and I'll be glad to help you find your way to a dropzone. Also, the 1st Wednesday of every month the Calgary Parachute Club meets for beers and you'd be welcome to share a pint with us. 4. My son made his first jump at at age 16. Not all dropzones in Canada allow it, so you have to check each location. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

  8. Maria and I made a bunch of additional weights for her belt using lead. We used a machine to sew 3 sides of "pocket", turned it inside out to hide the seams, added the lead, then I folded over the last "flap" and hand sewed it shut. The process wasn't that bad. We weighed each portion of lead in advance and used denim as our material. Edit to add: Russell's sports in Calgary sells lead shot "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

  10. It sounds to me that the locals have worked themselves up into a lather and the facts be damned. This is now an emotional issue for them and they no longer have the ability to look at this situation objectively. Too bad they are so narrow minded. 11. "Looking great for 49" is not quite the same as "Looking Great" Believe me, I too have checked the mirror and it appears that I'm going to be 50 in June. I will not be posting naked pictures either. But this is not a reason for all the beautiful young ladies on this forum to stop posting pictures Please continue to post as many naked pictures as possible.
  12. If your cutaway handle is red and you'd really like a red suit it's pretty easy, and not very costly, to replace your cutaway handle. Yellow will work very nicely for a cutaway handle if you have a red suit. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

  18. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=32040&d=1 ok, now that I have my A, it will be cheaper in the long run if i get my own gear, rather than pay $80 + a day to rent gear. .. If you're going to make the leaps then getting gear will pay off the cypress is only good for like 2 more years, then i would have to buy a new one? correct me if i am wrong. You can replace the Cypres when its time with a new one, a used one, or a Vigil, or by then an Argus "Ask your instructor he knows best"
  19. Please people this is a great opportunity to remember that there is something concrete that you can do to help people like Joey. Give blood and participate in the bone marrow registry. The amount of blood and blood products used in the procedures related to helping cancer patients is unbelievable. There are three ways you can donate blood: - whole blood, you can donate every 58 days - platelets, you can donate every 2 weeks - plasma, you can donate every week Both platelets and plasma are great ways for skydivers to donate as you get to keep your red blood cells, the ones that carry oxygen, and won't have any problems going to higher altitudes even right after donating. You get something back from being a blood donor. It might not seem like much but it has value. You get to know that you are helping people that really need it. I'm a pretty regular donor (131 times so far) but the time I remember best was about 12 years ago when was asked to donate platelets for every day for 5 days as I had matched a child that was having a bone marrow transplant. You can bet I sure got the warm and fuzzies knowing I was helping somebody beat cancer. So get your own dose of warm and fuzzies. Be a blood donor
  20. Shannon you can count on vibes from me. Hope he gets better! Ian "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

  22. I asked him that and he only has liability. he said it wasnt worth full coverage.. Im guessing now it would have been. Things like this in my policy are covered by my household insurance. If he as household insurance or tenant insurance he may still be covered. He should check. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  23. What??? Didn't you like the answers you were getting from the same poll in Gear and Rigging Forum? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  24. I agree whole heartedly. Although your message is sarcastic in tone, I believe that it is indeed true. Producing a video in this sport/industry is not going to make anybody rich. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
